Waiting for DC's PCR covid test results but why can't we go out if double vaccinated ??

hopingtochangeeachtime · 30/05/2021 14:32

Still waiting on my DC's test result, but both me & DH have had both our jabs, no illness, so I don't see why we can't leave the house ? Obviously not at the same time as DC is only 5 and very snotty. Of course he's not coughed since getting the test, but there was Covid cases in his school not his class. I think the guidelines need updating or what's the point of having the jab?

Because the vaccine doesn’t stop you getting and passing covid on. It stops you being severely ill (hospitalised) or dying from covid.

Ratatattatpat · 30/05/2021 14:38

Yes, it is a pile of rubbish.

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 30/05/2021 14:39

Exactly what @lj8893 said.

Sidesaladofchips · 30/05/2021 14:41

You could still be asymptomatic and pass it on. It depends whether you care about that or not.

BlackeyedSusan · 30/05/2021 14:45

you can still catch covid.
there is not enough evidence to prove you can not pass it on.
(though a double vaccinated relative did not pass it onto my children who were in prolonged indoor close contact as part of bubble)

PerhapsCarriageGreen · 30/05/2021 14:47

The jab just means you are less likely to die. The result won't take long. Just act responsibly till then.

BlackeyedSusan · 30/05/2021 14:47

although one would hope they are doing the research...
and that it will change once many more are vaccinated
and there is not another bloody varient floating about as the rest of the world are mainly vaccinated or case free too...

and yes it is bloody annoying.

Orf1abc · 30/05/2021 14:51

Even with no vaccines, it is not a given that people in a household would catch it off each other.

hopingtochangeeachtime · 30/05/2021 14:55

Aghhh I don't see the point of the jab if you can still catch it. Surely this isn't the case with the other jabs we get like measles ?

OP posts:
hopingtochangeeachtime · 30/05/2021 14:55

@BlackeyedSusan who had the Covid ? The double vax relative got it still or the kids ?

I’m a little shocked that you have had both vaccines now and therefore would have received verbal and written information twice about the vaccine and you didn’t take on board this information.

The point of the vaccine is to protect yourself! And the more people who have the vaccine then the less stress on the NHS. It’s really quite simple.

xyzandabc · 30/05/2021 15:02

The point of the jab is to prevent you getting seriously ill if you do catch it. Thereby preventing you being hospitalised and preventing the NHS collapsing under the strain of tens of thousands of extra patients seriously ill with covid.

MiddlesexGirl · 30/05/2021 15:05

The vaccine also reduces transmission. It isn't solely preventing the recipient being seriously ill.
Different vaccines have different effects on the rate of transmission although none have been shown to reduce it to 0.

You don't see the point of being protected from serious illness and death? [hmm}
happytoday73 · 30/05/2021 15:09

@Lj8893 I ve had my vaccines and wasn't provided with any information either time on this.... In fact was not given any paperwork at all other than a little card.

My husband got a leaflet at 2nd and more info at both...

MRex · 30/05/2021 15:30

Vaccines reduce the risk of transmission enormously, particularly when interacting with other vaccinated people. The UK hasn't yet vaccinated nor double vaccinated enough people for herd immunity, so the potential for transmission is higher than desired and that is why isolation is still in place even for vaccinated people, because even that tiny extra percentage risk is not desirable. I would expect the isolation rules to change when we pass various vaccination stages with cases reducing as well as hospitalisations and deaths.

Omg, it stops you getting seriously ill or dying, is that not good enough for you Hmm

Yes it is. Vaccines are not 100% effective.

Yes, it is the case with other jabs like measles - no vaccine is 100% effective.

The jabs MASSIVELY reduces your chance of catching Covid, of having symptoms from it, becoming severely ill or dying, AND of passing it on.

Just not to zero.

Stay home until you get DC’s result.

Motorina · 30/05/2021 15:57

The vaccine starts your immune system working earlier. It reduces the risk of symptomatic disease, serious disease, death and transmission. All of these are good!

However, it’s not 100% hence the advice to isolate if there are symptoms in your household.

Results are coming back really quickly so hopefully it won’t be long.

hopingtochangeeachtime · 30/05/2021 16:00

"R*esults are coming back really quickly"

Well I'd say quickly was within 24 hours, but we are nearing 48 hours now. They said up 3 days which is pretty much a whole bank holiday weekend really. But I suppose if he has it at least his classmates are having a few more days freedom of spreading it about.

Yes it is the case with measles too. In fact you need 90%+ of the population to be vaccinated for measles to prevent outbreaks which is why we sometimes get measles outbreaks

Vaccination strongly reduces the risk of catching the virus and even more reduces the risk of severe illness

However you can still be in the 5-15,% where the vaccine does not work that well and could get quite ill or in the 30-50% who having been exposed can still carry and transmit the disease despite being vaccinated and having no symptoms

Imnothereforthedrama · 30/05/2021 16:05

It’s a pain in the arse I’ve been there myself too during a bank holiday .
I see your point we said we’d have to lockdown, where masks , social distancing until the vaccine . We’ve had the vaccine so why are we still doing this bloody isolation. That’s not a question by the way I know why but yeah I see your point.

It's true of all vaccines.

No vaccine ever created stops someone getting infected. They are there to prime your immune system so that if/when you do get infected, it can respond quickly.

If you're in the quickest response %, then you never get symptoms, nor do you become infectious. Slightly slower and you get some symptoms and are infectious for a few days.

I got told the name of the vaccine, to carry on with wearing a mask and social distancing and to contact GP if side effects went on for too long. That was it!
