For a minimum of 2 days per week.
Is this an end to WFH?

Ok , I mean everywhere is open the majority vaccinated so yes why wouldn’t you be back in the office . It’s nice that it’s only 2 days a lot are back full time and some have always been full time in the office .
Are people still in this Covid bubble that it’s dangerous to leave the house ?

user1487194234 · 30/05/2021 08:25

Quite a few people I know are back at the office full time or will be by the end of June
A lot of businesses seem to be rolling back from WFH

EasterIssland · 30/05/2021 08:30

My company is going to do hybrid working. Be in the office if you have to or need to

OrangePowder · 30/05/2021 08:34

I'm seeing lots of SM posts of people loving being back to their offices and the social life that goes with it. It's great to see London coming back to life.

ladybirdpoppy · 30/05/2021 08:34

I've been going back in 1-2 days a week since having my two vaccinations early May. I rather enjoy it as a change of scenery and have to chance to see other staff I wouldn't normally talk to at home. We are limited to how many staff can be in one day due to social distancing and have a booking desk policy with strict hygiene policy.

Geamhradh · 30/05/2021 08:34

Hopefully.
Can't have it both ways. Can't go to football matches, fly to Greece for your hollybobs (or go to Cornwall with the masses) celebrate your sister's wedding, queue in Primark, send your kids to school and chuck your masks away then insist you want to stay WFH.

motogogo · 30/05/2021 08:39

We've been back since Easter full time, most people I know are too

starfish4 · 30/05/2021 08:39

DH back in 3/5 days. Where possible they're working back to back, masks on.

OrangePowder · 30/05/2021 08:39

Yes I do wonder how many of those determined that it's not safe to go into the office are happily getting back to normal for everything else.

Geamhradh · 30/05/2021 08:40

I agree. I didn't realise how bloody good it feels to walk down a street to get to work.
Gizlotsmum · 30/05/2021 08:41

We will be hybrid, office has been renovated, less desks, more meeting rooms and hubs. So hybrid working staying for a while. I quite like the idea of a day or 2 in the office and the rest at home.

Bagelsandbrie · 30/05/2021 08:42

Dh has been back for about 2 months now. I’m surprised anyone is surprised at being asked to go back. At some point life has to return to normal.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 30/05/2021 08:47

OP, I hope your DH has asked about social distancing, one way systems, limits to people in lifts and other measures to reduce the possibility of Covid 19 transmission. Does his office have opening windows.

Good points @newnortherner111 will ask.

He's actually got loads more work done from home. I wfh anyway so makes no difference to me.

It's been nice for him to be able to do school drops & get back those 10hrs of commuting each week.

I'm sure there will be nice things about going into the office too though.

It does seem to be most people will be going back in for a few days a week by the summer, some have pushed it out until September - but that mainly seems to be because they are in industries where little gets done over August anyway, due to colleagues/clients being off for holidays, and noone wants to commute in the heat of summer if they can avoid it for another year.

Dh has been told not more than once a month for the next year at least. The company he works for have given up 2 floors of their building back to the landlord with the plan of desk space for half the staff in each day. Some functions need to be in every day, so whole departments like his thar have proved to work just as well from home have been told they arent planning to have them back in for a year, will reassess after that.

Eatingsoupwithafork · 30/05/2021 08:48

I think it’s perfectly reasonable to be asked back to office. I’m in 3/4 days a week sometimes 5 if it’s needed. I’m shocked there’s still threads stating how surprised they are being asked to go back.

TheatricalGiraffe · 30/05/2021 08:48

I start a new job and will be full time in the office

My partner has been WFH for a year but we've recently relocated to be closer to his office (he was hired and started remotely from somewhere 3 hours away) so he might pop in every now and then then from June they're doing a 2in 3WFH type system...

That's how its going to be going forward for him, a minimum of 2 days in (of your choosing), you can go in more if you want or you can work at home the rest of the time, then in 5 days a week for the month surrounding the project deadlines (obviously that'll depend on when his project is due to be completed as they've got about 12 on the go at any one time)

MolyHolyGuacamole · 30/05/2021 08:51

@SmiledWithTheRisingSun

For a minimum of 2 days per week. Is this an end to WFH?
Fingers crossed it is! I have to go into people's homes for my job, and it's SO much easier when they're not around
whiteroseredrose · 30/05/2021 08:52

Looks like we're going to have to do a minimum of 2 days in. I'm gutted. I've been much more productive at home without the noise of the office and people rabbiting on.

clopper · 30/05/2021 08:55

joystir59 People need to get back to work especially in customer service roles, as customer service across the board has become dreadful. I've worked (cleaner, supporting an essential service) throughout and don't understand why people think it's ok to carry on not really doing the job they are paid for

This. I am not a cleaner but do have to go out to work each day to do my job. Customer service across the board is awful.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 30/05/2021 08:56

I’m shocked there’s still threads stating how surprised they are being asked to go back.

Most people we know are still WFH 🤷🏼‍♀️

We will be working a very similar pattern. The thing to remember is that while it has worked well for you/your DH, it has not worked well for many others. It's fine if you have a house with space for a desk and some peace and quiet. I've done calls with people in shared flats sitting in a kitchen with flatmates around or sitting on their bed because they haven't room for a desk. Indeed we've lost some junior people to jobs where they can work in offices again already as many companies in my field are back part-time. New joiners have missed out on training and so on.

Then there has been the mental health issues caused by sitting in the same space alone, day after day.

I've been pretty annoyed by those who have the perfect set-up complaining about going back even part-time. They don't know how lucky they are.

Noshowlomo · 30/05/2021 08:57

We have to go back 1-2 days a week but then again we’ve been doing this throughout. There are no plans to change back to full time office work though.

Mumof1andacat · 30/05/2021 08:59

I work for the nhs and have been in the office the whole time. We have screens between desks, masks on and the windows open.

clopper · 30/05/2021 09:01

smiled It's been nice for him to be able to do school drops & get back those 10hrs of commuting each week.

I’m sure it’s great for him and the kids, but is this not the time when he is paid to be working? I must admit I do feel a little like it’s been a middle class pandemic in that people with generally higher paid jobs have been able to stay at home and have family time and save money, whilst those in lesser paid jobs, or customer facing jobs have had to still go out to service those sat at home. My DSis manages staff working in a council dept wfh and she says productivity has definitely dropped off.

Mayra1367 · 30/05/2021 09:12

Work in a school, many of those stating that it’s not safe to return to their offices seem to be happy to send their children back to school, go to pubs / restaurants etc and ask for permission to take their children out of school to go on holiday.
