Doesn't look like my 2nd vaccine is being brought forward

Due to have 2nd AZ dose early June. There was a lot of hype about bringing forward the 2nd dose from 12 weeks to 8 weeks.

Advice on NHS website was to wait to be contacted and not to cancel your existing appointment. Lots of people did anyway and got it brought forward.

I decided to wait and be contacted, and have heard nothing. And now there really is no point cancelling because it's close enough that I may not get an appointment any sooner anyway.

Annoyed!

My second jab is scheduled to take place on 6 June. I had been wondering about whether to go onto the main NHS site and rebook, but didn't want to risk losing the appointment (there hasn't been much availability locally). The NHS website says you should wait to be contacted, which I did.

I had a text yesterday with a link to allow me to book at the mass vaccination centre about 15 miles away. I used that and the first available appointment wasn't until 1 June. As I am going on holiday that week (not abroad!) I am sticking with my original booking.

I had my first on 12 March - got a call from the surgery to get one yesterday.

So ten weeks?

Partner has one booked at a vax center - he made the appointment when he booked the first. Hasn't heard anything so will just go on that date.

Mine has been brought forward, only by a week mind you, however it was at a closer vaccination centre so I won't complain!

It does concern me that I am mid 20's and still offered AZ for a second dose even though they have recommended it is no longer given to under 40's.

I’m CV and due my second dose in the beginning of June. No one has contacted me to rearrange and I don’t want to cancel my existing appointment.

I'm another who doesn't want to risk cancelling my appointment (on 5th June) in case I can't get anything earlier.
I'm 51 and clinically vulnerable but not heard anything about bringing my appointment forward. I also live adjacent to one of the highest areas for the Indian variant in the country.

RedMarauder · 23/05/2021 16:37

@MiddleClassMother if you had one dose of AZ and were fine, then you get offered the same for second dose regardless of age.

I've seen preliminary results somewhere from the mixed vaccine study and people who had a dose of AZ then Pfizer and vice versa, had more side effects then two doses of the same.

GOODCAT · 23/05/2021 16:44

I am 50 and have not yet been contacted. That said there are older people who haven't had their second jab and younger who have not had their first jab yet, so not overly concerned.

TheVampiresWife · 23/05/2021 16:47

I've heard nothing. 48 and CV, second dose due on 6 June.

Paquerette · 23/05/2021 18:26

@VanCleefArpels

You seriously do not need to wait to be contacted.

Go on to the booking website and choose “manage booking” - cancel your current appointment and rebook and if you are over 50 you will be offered a slot in the next few days

Tell all your friends/family, people don’t need to be passive in this!

Depends on where you live. When I booked my first appointment, the earliest appointment was 3 weeks away. No way will I cancel my second and take a chance. I'm going to wait and see if I get a text or email to rebook, or just wait until my original 11 week 2nd appointment.

My DH was due for 2nd jab in 4 weeks time. After all the stuff this last week about getting 2nd jab sooner, he decided to rebook today.

The appointment he had booked was about 5 min drive away but he has rebooked for Weds and it’s 45 mins away. He’s fine with that. Altogether it will be about a 2 hour trip and getting the extra protection seems worth 2 hours. We often travel 45 mins to visit fireinds in normal times and this is certainly an important thing, so worth doing the extra journey.

There were closer locations, but they were the day before half term when we are going on a UK break and he didn’t want to risk feeling ill when we go away, plus the one he’s got is sooner, which is the whole point of cancelling the first one. Lots of locations available though, ranging from a very close to many miles away do starting in next couple of days. Certainly couldn’t complain about availability, but as often the case, for sooner, just need to be willing to travel that bit further. Fair enough. If wasn’t able to do that, could still have had it end of this week within short drive.
