Please walk me through 2and vaccination appointment

I have my 2nd vaccination appointment later. I was so nervous and had so much anxiety at the first one. This one even more so, as I'm having a second AstraZeneca Sad

How is the 2nd appointment different to the first? Can someone who has been to a large city vaccination centre walk me through it?

Given my anxiety and the fact I could barely give them my details last time, it would be good to know what to expect.

mine was exactly the same as the first. asked the same questions. queue was longer and it hurt more as different person with the needle. that's all.

Pandaredbear · 22/05/2021 10:46

Did you have to give all of your details again? Or was it just the health questions that were repeated?

Same as first. Can't remember giving any details apart from name and appt time - just got asked a couple of questions, in and out in five minutes both times, really easy no queues. But def no difference 2nd time to 1st time.
Sorry you're nervous OP. You'll be fine I'm sure and hopefully over quick.

I can’t tell you what happens (yet) but there are stats out somewhere that say problems with AZ happen with the first dose not the second, so you (and me as I’m in the same boat) should hopefully be ok.

Drink 1-2 litres of water on the vaccination day and the day before (helps with headaches I believe) and take it easy for a couple of weeks and we should be fine.

SpringSparrow · 22/05/2021 11:00

Mine was at the local gp hub. Slightly differently organised as they were getting through 2000 people in the day. Had to check in with the desk for my surgery, asked name and date of both and if I had the card from last time. No time to sit in a waiting area, just funnelled straight through to a row of vaccinators. Lots of volunteers around directing. They were asking people to wait in the car for 15 mins before driving yourself away and said to beep your horn if you required assistance. I was in and out in ten minutes including quite a long walk from the car park. So quicker than the first time. Had it yesterday and so far no side effects.

oneglassandpuzzled · 22/05/2021 11:02

Bring your card from the first jab.

Tell them you’re nervous. I’m a volunteer and would offer to go in with you if that would help.

Howshouldibehave · 22/05/2021 11:03

Mine was no different to the first, just a 45 minute queue at the second rather than no queue like the first.

They asked me to confirm my date of birth, and then just the health questions. It really was exactly the same. They had my details on the computer.
Imafraidimnotmyself · 22/05/2021 11:27

Echo PP mine was fine, queue was longer though!
Health questions asked again and if you had any side effects the first time. Take your card so they can stamp again.
I'm under 40 and just had my second Astra Zeneca and read up on it before hand, there have been 0 reported cases of blood cloths following a second vaccine so try not to worry!

Pandaredbear · 22/05/2021 11:37

I know it sounds strange, but the thought of having to go through the process of giving all my details again is the worst. Last time I was so nervous I could barely speak Sad But if you're saying the will already have them from last time on the computer, then at least that's one less thing to worry about.

Had my second AZ yesterday. Basically same as first. They wanted my name and DOB.

There was a questionnaire to complete, similar but not quite the same as the last time. A specific question on any history of blood clotting issues. There was also some additional info to take away including information on symptoms that could indicate blood clotting side effects. Staff were very helpful and happy to explain this and answer any questions.

Don’t forget your vaccination card you were given when you had the first jab.

I had no side effects from the first jab and so far none from second.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 22/05/2021 11:41

I went to the same place as my first jab. I was asked for my card but I didn't have it but it wasn't a problem. I was asked name and date of birth then moved to booth. Nurse practitioner asked me if I had any allergies that led to anaphylaxis or any strong reaction to the first jab. Then it was done very quickly and as I don't drive I left straight away. I was given a new card but now I have the NHS app on my phone which has my vaccination information on it.

MyFavouritePlace · 22/05/2021 11:43

Mine was yesterday at a large centre. I had to fill in the same form as last time. Had to confirm my name and DOB and got jabbed. All done very quickly. I was told I could leave straightaway.
Good luck.

FinallyHere · 22/05/2021 15:36

Better perhaps to expect to give your details again and be pleasantly surprised if it turns out to not be necessary, than relaxing thinking they may not be required and then , if they are, after all needed having an unpleasant surprise.

Do remember to take your card and decide where to keep it so you don't have a last minute rush to find it. It won't be needed until you get to the person who will administer the dose.

Do let them know right away and they will be very accommodating. All the best.

Happyelfjokeday · 22/05/2021 15:52

I had mine at a large vaccination centre (AZ - under 40). Queue for second was much shorter than for first. They asked for email details which I don’t remember doing last time, and gave a leaflet about clots. Same few questions about recent flu jabs, recent COVID infections, could you be pregnant. Then jab and wait for 15 mins and then off you go!

giletrouge · 22/05/2021 16:35

How are you @Pandaredbear?
Have you had it done yet? Hope it went well if so. Smile

LizB62A · 22/05/2021 16:43

it was exactly the same as the first appointment except as well as checking my name, DOB etc. with me several times they also confirmed which vaccine I'd had first time and that they were giving me the same vaccine this time.
Literally exactly the same - I had the same man writing on my vaccination card (he said he'd recognised his scrawl from the first jab), sat at the same vaccination table, and sat at the same chair for my 15 min wait before leaving :)

Backofbeyond50 · 22/05/2021 16:58

2nd was much quicker as at a different centre. They did check that I was aware of blood clot issue for consent purposes.

webuiltthiscityonrockandwheat · 22/05/2021 17:07

How have people found the side effects from the second AZ? I had mine this afternoon and I'm nervous because I felt quite unwell after my first and I have a 3 week old baby to take care of now!

Happyelfjokeday · 22/05/2021 17:31

Side effects virtually none second time round (1st time rough for 24hrs). My only side effect second time was some sleeplessness but not really sure why - maybe because I was worried about side effects! 🤣

I had virtually no side effects after the second except for feeling tired. I was really unwell with my first too so it came as a welcome relief when none appeared after the second vaccine.
Livpool · 22/05/2021 17:45

I had my second one earlier (AZ). Had to answer the same questions but still in and out in less than 10 minutes.

DH had first one today and said it really hurt. I barely felt mine

It’s funny you say that as my mum had the same after her 2nd dose of AZ. Just couldn’t sleep. But like you, she wondered if she was just worrying about it! She had no side effects at all after the first.
Littleone638 · 22/05/2021 18:15

I’ve not had my second yet but I took my mum for hers a few weeks ago. She had her first back in early February before capacity really ramped up, so the process was slightly different as they’ve adapted to be able to get through more people, but only so far as different queuing systems/room layout etc.

Spacie · 22/05/2021 19:43

GP Hub. Minor differences were I was asked to use my phone to take a picture of the updated AZ side effects information (they had run out of leaflets!) and I was asked if I'd had any reaction to the 1st jab.
