Holiday to Amber County

Ilovedmybed1985 · 21/05/2021 09:49

My husband and I booked a family holiday to an Amber country last year. We have two young children (ages 1 and 2). I have read the guidelines about covid tests you have to do before and after your holiday. However, I cannot see if children have to do them too. Does anyone know where I can find information on this? Thank you.

I suspect it may depend on the country. I would start by looking for your destination's government's rules. Always the best place to start.

For return to the UK from an amber country children under 4 are exempt from the tests on days 2 and 8 of quarantine.

Children under 11 are exempt. I recently checked this out too.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/05/2021 12:54

For the before you go ones, it is specific to that country. Where is it you are going to?

Oh really? Do you have a link I could not find this at all
TopoTip · 21/05/2021 19:19

Which country is it? They all differ at the moment - for example in Italy children over 2 have to get tested.

EasterIssland · 21/05/2021 19:20

Where are you flying ?
If Spain children over 6 have to take the test when flying there 72h in advance
For returning back its 12y

Forget my message about the uk and 12. It’s 4 as indicated here

Overthebow · 21/05/2021 19:21

Depends on the country. Children that hound don’t need the tests cling back into the UK (but do still need to isolate), but other countries they might need to test.

Onceuponatime1818 · 21/05/2021 19:22

You can’t holiday to an Amber country.

Onceuponatime1818 · 21/05/2021 19:24

Mr Johnson said: "I think it's very important for people to grasp what an amber list country is: it is not somewhere where you should be going on holiday, let me be very clear about that.
"And if people do go to an amber list country, they absolutely have to for some pressing family or urgent business reason, then please bear in mind that you will have to self-isolate, you'll have to take tests and do your passenger locator form and all the rest of it."

Ilovedmybed1985 · 21/05/2021 19:28

We will be going to Greece.
I don't get it... surely if we shouldn't be going there there should be two lists, green and red. 😩

You can’t holiday to an Amber country.
Is it against the law ? No. So yes you can holiday in an amber country as long as when you return you do the 3 tests + self isolate
Onceuponatime1818 · 21/05/2021 19:29

Green- holiday
Amber- emergency/family etc
Red- No go

EasterIssland · 21/05/2021 19:31

@Ilovedmybed1985 I believe Greece is over 5

What will apply to minors under the age of 12?

Only children under the age of 5 will not be required to undergo a PCR test.

As of next week Spain is requiring no tests to come in to Spain
EasterIssland · 21/05/2021 19:33

@Onceuponatime1818

Green- holiday Amber- emergency/family etc Red- No go
. As of 17 May, the UK government no longer stipulates that you need to show evidence of an “essential” reason in order to go abroad (such as for work or buying a house), regardless of whether the destination you’re travelling to is green, amber or reD

Is it illegal to visit amber or red countries for a holiday?

No. While the government is advising against holidaying in any country not on the green list, recreational international travel is no longer illegal in England. Guidance is not the same as law. The Department for Transport has advised travellers that they “should not be travelling to ‘amber’ and ‘red’ countries for leisure”, but there are no fines or penalties issued for going against this advice.

Guidance , not law. So you can go if you want as long as on return you follow the law (the tests and quarantine)

Gov website says you shouldn't travel to Amber

Holiday to Amber County
FusionChefGeoff · 21/05/2021 19:39

FCO says this which will probably invalidate any insurance...

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advises against all but essential travel to Greece, except for the islands of Rhodes, Kos, Zakynthos, Corfu and Crete, based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.

Onceuponatime1818 · 21/05/2021 19:40

@FusionChefGeoff

Yes it’s quite obvious that people shouldn’t be holidaying to Amber countries, but unfortunately people are inherently selfish. Thus a year later still this shit show

Sure cuz in the uk there is not selfish people.
If I go to an amber country and when I come back I follow the law what’s the risk to you?

The current situation with the Indian variant is not only because of those coming from India but because track n trace (arranged by the government ) has failed once again.
Op hasn’t asked whether it’s legal or not whether to go to an amber country but whether they need a test.

Let’s stop pointing at fingers of “you’re selfish”. It’s boring after year and a half

Ilovedmybed1985 · 21/05/2021 19:47

The holiday is for a wedding that we are attending whilst there... would that make any difference?

OP posts:
LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/05/2021 19:47

I don't understand how that would invalidate insurance? If op is travelling to any of those islands then that's not advised against by the FCO?

LIZS · 21/05/2021 19:48

@Ilovedmybed1985

Not if bride and groom are flying over too or not close family.
Ilovedmybed1985 · 21/05/2021 19:49

They are from England and flying there to get married. It is a friend, not family.
