If you’re under 40 and have recently had your first dose, which vaccine was it?

Apologies if this has been asked 100 times, I’m not a frequent visitor to this section. I’ve spent a happy few hours on the phone today to both 119 and my GP, collectively no fucks given at either so I’m chancing MN Grin.

I’m mid thirties, pregnant, got a text to book my vaccine this morning. The guidance for pregnant women is to receive Pfizer or Moderna. There’s no “Are you pregnant?” as part of the booking process, but a (non-pregnant) under-40s friend nearby said that when she booked she was routed by the system to a site with Pfizer. Are under-40s routinely given Pfizer, or is it a matter of luck on the day? I don’t want to waste an appointment I can’t use, if nothing else.

Had mine on Monday and it was Pfizer.

I think that is the case, that when you book, if you're under 40, it only takes you to sites offering it. It actually says on the front page of the booking system something about being offered appropriate sites based on age.

In fact the site I went to was one administered by pharmacy2u.. I'd previously looked on their website and Facebook page for that specific site and both had said they were only currently offering AZ. (So I think even places previously offering AZ have been given Pfizer supplies to give to under 40s).

Had mine last week - pfizer.

Bramblespoint · 20/05/2021 21:55

Under 40s are now only offered Pfizer or Moderna.

HairyToity · 20/05/2021 21:56

Pfizer

Inmypjsagain · 20/05/2021 21:57

Am 34 and pregnant and had Pfizer. I was called by my GP surgery though and was told they were doing Pfizer jabs on the day they booked me in, so didn’t have to go through an online system. Might be worth checking with your GP surgery? (Also you can’t have had your whooping cough jab/flu jab within 2 weeks of the vaccine incase that’s not been mentioned to you!)

Sunshinegirl82 · 20/05/2021 21:59

I had mine on Monday, was Pfizer.

My DH is over 40 and he went to a different centre to me (he had AZ). When I booked it wouldn't let me book at the same centre as my DH went to, it directed me to another centre.

DinoMamasaurus · 20/05/2021 22:00

Had mine today - Pfizer

boatyroo · 20/05/2021 22:01

Pfizer. The centre I went to said under 40s there all get Pfizer.

EssentialHummus · 20/05/2021 22:01

Thanks all, that’s looking hopeful. inmy I rang my GP, who had no idea and suggested 119. 119 suggested my GP. I’m sure they’ll both develop some sort of policy sharpish given that this is approaching peak baby/pregnancy age in the UK, but it’s a bit of a muddle at the moment.

Pfizer. I get the impression that the supplies of Pfizer are more plentiful anecdotally, and if I recall the order quantities were lower for Moderna.

HairyFloppins · 20/05/2021 22:07

Pfizer at a GP led clinic. My text message to book specifically said Pfizer.

10storeylovesong · 20/05/2021 22:08

Had mine today. Anyone under 40 was directed to a seperate line and given Pfizer.

And48 · 20/05/2021 22:08

Based on your age you'll be given an alternative to AZ. When you book online the centres listed will be those able to offer you Moderna or Pfizer.

Kljnmw3459 · 20/05/2021 22:29

I got Pfizer

IndigoC · 20/05/2021 22:31

They’re only plentiful now because the government stockpiled it while it gave AZ to the 40-49 age group. They only get a bit less than 1 million doses a week to cover first and second doses.
MrsIsobelCrawley · 20/05/2021 22:36

You will not be offered AstraZeneca if you are under 40 due to the risk of blood clots. It will be one of the other vaccines.

InglouriousBasterd · 20/05/2021 22:36

Pfizer. When I gave my DOB they told me to tell the vaccinator I was in group 1 (ie Pfizer) and AZ was being given to older / second doses (group 2).

OrangeFluff · 20/05/2021 23:47

I had mine yesterday and got Pfizer. Mine was through my GP though. I got a text from them on Tuesday saying I was now eligible to book and there was a Pfizer clinic being run the following evening.

DixonD · 20/05/2021 23:58

It only asks if you are pregnant if you are over 40. If you’re under 40 it doesn’t ask you because you’ll be given Pfizer or Moderna anyway.

I’m 38. When I booked it didn’t ask me. When we put my 41yo DH’s details in, it asked if he was pregnant (doesn’t seem to discriminate between male and female!).

bebarkered · 21/05/2021 00:00

I don't think I fully understand why people under 40 are not being given the AstraZenica vaccine. Are 'they' not bothered that other age groups can get blood clots too, not just the under forties?!

YetAnotherWalk · 21/05/2021 06:25

Pfizer

The risk of serious complications from covid are slightly less than the risk of clots from AZ. Not just because of age, but also that community transmission is very low Almost everywhere. IF we had January levels of cases the risk would swing the other way.
nordica · 21/05/2021 06:35

38 and had Moderna last week. Most sites are doing Pfizer for our age group though as there is a lot less Moderna available. Both are very similar mRNA vaccines, though.

Toottootdrivers · 21/05/2021 06:37

35 and Pfizer

NavigationCentral · 21/05/2021 06:39

Mid 30s, Pfizer first dose, yesterday.
Spouse also mid 30s, Pfizer second dose yesterday
