How many people are getting a lateral flow test twice a week?

Just that really. Was talking to a school mum this morning and was wondering how many people are doing this?

@Ponoka7

I'm bubbled with school age children. I do one once a week. I know shop workers and taxi drivers who are also doing them once a week. We've all been vaccinated. I do think 'the giving in of personal details' as an objection is ridiculous. Unless you are a technophobe and don't shop online, have a smartphone etc. We are being monitored in every aspect of our lives, at least this one benefits the people who surround us.
If you're happy to give all the details, good for you. I'm not. And yes, I do take various steps to protect my online privacy, and don't use any kind of tracking on devices. But even if that wasn't the case, if I was happy for Facebook to know everything about me but didn't want to report to the government how often I'd been taking covid tests, that would still be my own choice. Perhaps a slightly inconsistent one, but one I'd be free to make. (And I don't see why they need specific personal info and not just 'test 56789, taken in Croydon, negative')

I suppose if I wanted the tests I could always pick them up from a chemist and then just not bother with the reporting...

Anyway! OP, it's not shocking if you don't do the tests. That was a very odd overreaction from the person you were talking to. It's up to you whether ypu want to or not.

delilahbucket · 19/05/2021 11:29

DS is for school and I've started doing them as I go out to see more people.

Spekoppar · 19/05/2021 11:32

Yes, have been since they opened them up to families with school age children

xyzandabc · 19/05/2021 11:41

I do, work in a school. 2 X secondary children do. DH (WFH) and primary dc do not.

Mumdiva99 · 19/05/2021 11:56

@DumplingsAndStew

Yes - in England

"all secondary and college students, their families and support bubbles have been offered coronavirus (COVID-19) testing (rapid lateral flow test)

rapid lateral flow testing is now available to everyone in England and you’re advised to do a test twice a week"

We have been testing the kids twice a week as we've been directed to do by the schools.

I can well imagine most are not bothering though as we were supposed to be issues with the tests each week and we haven't had any apart from the first two or three weeks. We've ordered them directly from the government website instead.

DH and I not testing ourselves as we still don't really go out or mix with people and we've both been vaccinated.

Itstheprinciple · 19/05/2021 12:16

DH is currently on daily tests as he works in one of the badly affected areas. And he had to do a PCR test the other day too. DD and I are in twice weekly due to school and my job.

MimosaFields · 19/05/2021 12:21

My son does then twice a week at school. I'm currently quarantining as I just came back from abroad, so I will have done 4 PCRs in the last two weeks. After the quarantine is over, I'll start with the lateral flow tests again.

bigbluebus · 19/05/2021 12:27

DH (and all his staff) do one every Sunday. All his staff and service users are now double vaccinated and social distancing measures are in place as well as masks worn and doors/windows open. I do them twice a week as a volunteer at a vaccine clinic.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 19/05/2021 12:28

We are in solidarity with eldest DC who does them for school.

RevolvingPivot · 19/05/2021 12:32

I've not done any do we need too?

Temp023 · 19/05/2021 12:33

DD is stock-piling them, she gets them from school but nobody makes her do them. I found 23 tests in her room. Such a waste of money!

DumplingsAndStew · 19/05/2021 12:35

@Mumdiva99

You realise a vast number of MN users aren't in England? You told the OP she was irresponsible for not doing twice weekly tests, before even confirming with her that she was somewhere she was asked to do so.

AegonT · 19/05/2021 12:35

Yes. My husband has to as he's a teacher so I do them at the same time. I feel better seeing people knowing I'm testing so less likely to be asymptomatic an passing it on.
My daughter is in primary school so doesn't do them.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/05/2021 12:36

Yep it's compulsory on my ward.

TheVampiresWife · 19/05/2021 12:38

We don't. DH is wfh and I go to the supermarket a couple of times a week at quiet times, and that's it apart from the occasional walk. We don't see/meet/interact with anyone. DD lost her job at the start of the first lockdown and leaves the house even less frequently than I do.

If we had symptoms we'd take a PCR. So far we haven't.

PlantDoctor · 19/05/2021 12:39

I am as we've just started doing things like toddler playgroups where there is no distancing between the kids. We see elderly relatives fairly often (who have all had both jabs) so I tend to take one before seeing them, even when we just meet outside.

MozzchopsThirty · 19/05/2021 12:48

We are

TwoBlueFish · 19/05/2021 12:55

Everyone in my house is doing them
2 x secondary age DS, I work in hospitality and DH is a carer to our oldest DS.

RhubarbTea · 19/05/2021 12:57

No, and I don't plan to. I run my own business from home and my DC is home educated. I don't see the need.

FlowerTink · 19/05/2021 13:04

Yes - with DH too, we have a primary aged child and a toddler who is just starting to go back to playgroups where there's no distancing between the children.

BlowDryRat · 19/05/2021 13:06

We are. The DC hate it though.

Vivana · 19/05/2021 13:07

I have 3 lateral flows a week and 1 pcr and I'm fully vaccinated. I have to do this for my. Job

WaltzingToWalsingham · 19/05/2021 13:09

I test myself once a week, as does secondary-aged DD. I know we should really be doing it twice a week and the only reason we're not is just laziness on my part. However, I WFH, have had my first vaccination and havent yet started seeing anybody indoors, so I think I'm unlikely to be spreading covid. I've got some site visits starting up again soon so I'll test twice weekly then.

YouAreTheWordsIAmTheTune · 19/05/2021 13:11

Yup in a hotspot at the moment and testing twice a week. Happy to do it even though I'm fully vaccinated. DH and DCs are as well
