Are you 40? Will you be comfortable taking AZ?

I have name changed for this. Not a troll or anti vaxxer.
But very scared of the vaccine and Covid- so Rock/hard place

I turned 40 last month / I feel scared about taking this vaccine but according to the guidelines I’m ‘safe’? How safe am I from being 39 to 40?

I'm 39 (40 soon) and a week ago happily accepted AZ.

Ypsilanti · 16/05/2021 20:55

I also turned 40 last month and had my first AZ in March. Second is next month, unless it’s brought forward. With what we know now, I’d prefer to have a different vaccine, but the reality is the risk is very low, and I am more concerned about long covid than I am a blood clot. I would still take AZ over no vaccine (and will be going for my second).

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 16/05/2021 20:59

I’m 41 and have had covid and my first jab. I will be going for my second.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 16/05/2021 21:00

@MybodyNochoice great user name, as that’s exactly how I feel about the whole situation. I would happily have given my jab away, especially as I have had Covid already. I had my first jab last week (Pfizer) and I am 43.

housemdwaswrong · 16/05/2021 21:20

I'm 42 and have had both my az jabs. I've also had a stroke in the past few years, so would have been more concerned if I knew about this at the time, but I'd had my 2nd before it got the headlines. No ill effects.

You won't be any safer from 39-40, but certainly no less safe. They've had to draw a line somewhere, but it could as easily have been 38 or 42, but under 40s is easier to manage.

MybodyNochoice · 16/05/2021 21:25

Sounds like a I’ll be playing Russian Roulette - take the jab - blood clot- possible death

Don’t take the jab- selfish anti vaxxer tag - possible death

My body No choice!

Also when did the government propaganda machine move to no jab certain hospitalisation and death? Last wave was not everybody ends up in that scenario but now it’s changed??

I had the Pfizer and preferred that to AZ. I am only just 40 and only a few months off being able to decide which one I could have. I felt like this cut off was so tight I wanted to avoid AZ. I am glad I did as they are now saying no under 40s will have it at all.

fatisnotafeeling · 16/05/2021 21:28

I am 40 and won't be having the AZ but that's because I have a blood clotting condition that means my blood clots too much, health professionals agree that it's not worth the risk for me.

Smartiepants79 · 16/05/2021 21:30

I’m 41 and have had my first AZ jab and will be having the second also.
The risks of clots are statistically minuscule. The risks of COVID are also fairly low and not something I expend my energy worrying about.
I will have my jabs to do the socially responsible thing and to ensure that I’m allowed to live my life as normal when that becomes possible.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/05/2021 21:31

We play Russian roulette every day of our lives.... nothing is without risk. It's a balance of probability and based on the literally millions of people who have had the jab and been fine, it's a risk Vs benefit that I'm happy to take. If you think the possibility of an issue is too high a gamble for you, then don't take it. It's not Sophie's choice.

mummog · 16/05/2021 21:31

I was given AZ two weeks ago and I'm just 34! I didn't ask which i was getting mostly because I know the blood clotting risks are very low. Still they were talking about the risks on the news at that time so I'm surprised I was given it.

My parents and my husband (younger than me) were given Pfizer so... I guess i'll get Pfizer in 5 weeks?

SugarMiceInTheRain · 16/05/2021 21:34

I had my first AZ 10 weeks ago at 39. I've since turned 40 and will be having my 2nd in a week. Not worried. Other friends the same age who have had their first and second AZ jabs with no issues at all.

Vallmo47 · 16/05/2021 21:35

I’m under 40 and happily accepted AZ, ditto I will happily accept it in less than a week’s time. To each their own, clearly. 💗

kerosene20 · 16/05/2021 21:35

I’m 37 and have had both AZ. Second one was at beginning of April. Absolutely no issues.

You will get AZ as you’re second dose as they’re is no clarity about mixing vaccines (unless that’s changed?)
Booksandwine80 · 16/05/2021 21:40

I’m 40 and have had both doses of AZ with no issues.

Lottapianos · 16/05/2021 21:41

I'm 41 and have had both doses of AZ (NHS worker). I'm also a vaccinator. I had horrible side effects after first dose - totally worth it and would do it all again. The vaccines are perfectly safe and I would advise anyone to get theirs at the very earliest opportunity

Nietzschethehiker · 16/05/2021 21:48

Interesting point about Russian roulette but thats 6 chambers 1 bullet. This is more like 3 million Chambers , one bullet that may well turn out to be a misfire or a blank anyway. ( just for clarity I was using hyperbole I'm not quoting 3 million as an actual statistic).

I don't think anyone should be forced to have a medical intervention against their will. I feel strongly about personal bodily autonomy but your analogy is clunky and inaccurate.

I'm 41 I have had both AZ vaccines and I'm fine but that doesn't really matter. Honestly whatever choice you make is yours but an emotive choice the way you are describing it above is a bit silly. Look at the science and make your own decision and have the spine to stand by it. If you do then what does it matter if other people call you names ?

Odagled · 16/05/2021 21:50

I’m just over 40 and had my first jab of AZ about 9 weeks ago. I have my second jab of the same in about two weeks, and will be having it without hesitation. I had side effects from the first jab (except for a sore arm) and the blood clot risk is minuscule.

CrocodilesCry · 16/05/2021 21:50

Your risk of getting Covid (and being either a bit sick, or getting really quite poorly, or getting long Covid, or dying) is still much bigger than the chance of you getting a blood clot from the jab.

I'm 40 and I'll be having my second dose in three weeks. No issues.

Odagled · 16/05/2021 21:51

Sorry that should be had NO side effects.

CrocodilesCry · 16/05/2021 21:53

I just think the people who are now in hospital with Covid-19 who were offered the jab and declined it for whatever reason (which is the vast majority of those in hospital now, and particularly those with the Indian variant) - if they could go back, would they get the jab?

I'd imagine most would wish they'd had the jab. Pretty simple really.

101spacehoppers · 16/05/2021 21:56

I'm 40 and have had both doses. I was bumped into group 6 because of an elevated risk of clotting. I still had it- much more likely to clot with covid itself.

Did you ever take the contraceptive pill? Far higher risk of clots with that!
StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2021 22:17

41, first astra zeneca done and second to follow.
Are you OK with the small risk of a blood clot from covid?
Do you ever drive a car or sit as a passenger?
