The vulnerable are all vaccinated?

I keep reading here that the vulnerable are vaccinated. Are people referring to groups 1-4, and has everyone in these groups had both their jabs?

I am CV and have not had both jabs and wondered if this is very unusual.

There must also be a smaller number of people who are vulnerable but cannot be vaccinated due to age or other conditions.

It’s ten weeks since my first jab and I’ve heard nothing about a second one. I’m still waiting to be contacted.

Halloweenrainbow · 15/05/2021 07:46

We've been told that the bulk of protection comes from the first dose but the sudden rush to give everyone the 2nd due to this variant makes me wonder if it's still believed to be the case? Maybe they should have just stuck to the 3 week interval?

Halloweenrainbow · 15/05/2021 07:47

Also, my 2nd dose is booked for week 13! Confused

cptartapp · 15/05/2021 07:54

High dose steroids can be a contraindication for a live vaccine. But the Covid vaccine is not live.
My 20 year old godson has just been called. Not CEV. NW.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 15/05/2021 08:02

The second vaccine is apparently the one that helps stop you spreading covid. Makes some sense to get as many people as possible second vaccinated to slow the spread of the Indian variant, particularly to higher risk groups.

I'd also say younger people are more likely to be mixing and potentially spreading covid so makes sense to vaccinate them.

Can you post links to were guidance says those on high dose steroids should not have vaccination.
I am a vaccinator and it is definitely NOT on the list of things we ask patients, and definitely NEVER seen anything about steroids being a contra indication.
As I said I don’t have the guidance but if you search it it should come up, I was told this by a pharmacist, a consultant and a vaccinator all from my trust when I enquired so maybe guidelines have changed. Unless everyone’s saying different things. 🤷🏻‍♀️

CharlotteRose90 · 15/05/2021 10:40
@CharlotteRose90 what?! I've had both jabs and I'm on high dose steroids - no one ever said I shouldn't have it??

In fact, high dose steroids is one of the things that puts you on the CEV list, isn't it?

I'm on other drugs too that they've told me mean I'm likely to have had a poor immune response to the vaccine, but if the steroids also mean it probably hasn't worked then I'm completely fucked, aren't I?Sad
Yep it’s baffling. I only got put back on them last week and was told straight up no when I asked. I think it’s the worry that the full effect of the vaccine won’t take due to our immune systems. If you’ve had it I honestly wouldn’t worry. I’ve only got like 50% of the first vaccine thanks to my condition 😩 so I’m effectively shielding till I’m on a lower dose .

You are talking rubbish.
I have doubled checked all the protocols for all vaccines.
Steroids arw not a contra indication for getting the vaccine.
If you are due an injection of steroids you are advised to delay it for two weeks after vaccination but there is abs NO guidelines from PHE or dhsc or vaccine manufacturers to say if you are on oral steroids you should not have the vaccination.

I’m not scaring anyone you idiot. I’m saying what I was told. Unless you are a doctor or a consultant don’t come at me with some crap about it not being true. I’m listening to what the professionals told me now I’m actually on steroids which clearly you aren’t. Have a nice day.
PermanentlyDizzy · 17/05/2021 09:23

@Tealightsandd Good news. Received a text from the GP, as soon as the surgery opened this morning, confirming ds1 is eligible for the vaccination, his details have been passed to the vaccination team and they will be in touch soon.

Theredjellybean · 18/05/2021 13:10

I am a doctor. And I am the clinical lead for the vaccination programme in my area which includes six primary care networks.
So I do know what I am talking about.
I review guidance daily and I can assure you oral steroids are not a contra indication for your vaccination.

ShyButMiffed · 18/05/2021 13:23

@Stealhsquirrelnutkin

No, the vulnerable will never all be vaccinated. Some of the conditions that make them particularly vulnerable also make it very difficult for their immune system to react to vaccination and build the necessary anti-bodies. Just like the children who cannot be vaccinated against measles and rely on everyone else having the vaccination to keep the prevalence of infection down so that they can go to school and live normal lives. I'm not best pleased with people who get angry at other people trying to keep a safe distance and wanting them to wear masks. It doesn't matter how safe you are, or how vaccinated you and your family are, if you see someone who is obviously trying to keep their distance please treat them with respect and consideration. They may have an underlying condition that has prevented them from building antibodies in response to the vaccination, and are only able to resume anything like a normal life if you avoid knowingly exposing them to unnecessary risks.
As a matter of interest, did you cope differently every flu season when you tried to keep your distance, and no-one had heard of the concept yet?

Could you give an overview of what meds and conditions are a contra-indication? Maybe in a new thread? That way we could link it and see the information.
Inkpaperstars · 18/05/2021 14:36

I am CV and not yet had first jab.

Watapalava · 18/05/2021 16:23
