When can we stop wearing masks for school drop off/pick up?

Standing outside, 2 metres away from each other, things opening up etc.
Does anyone know when face masks at school drop off pick up will go?

OP posts:

Dunno. I'll probably wear masks past the required stage as I think the UK is being pretty stupid rushing to ditch a low-cost, low-hassle mitigation measure.

ThornAmongstRoses · 11/05/2021 07:28

I don’t know OP, but hopefully soon.

MichelleScarn · 11/05/2021 07:30

Agree hopefully soon!

MuddySocks · 11/05/2021 07:31

Not yet I hope.

It really isn't so much of an issue and these parents love to huddle up. They've done it right the way through at our school anyway despite the social distancing rules. Many don't even bother with masks.

Suranjeep · 11/05/2021 07:36

Is it a legal requirement which can be enforced or just a request that masks are worn now?

CookPassBabtridge · 11/05/2021 07:44

I've stopped wearing mine, we're outdoors and don't get close.

changeruset2748 · 11/05/2021 07:45

This was never necessary, some schools just chose to do it, so it's when the individual school decides.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/05/2021 07:48

I’m the only one wearing one still on my school run. Some have never worn them.

ThornAmongstRoses · 11/05/2021 07:48

I trick my son’s school will keep it in place because social distancing just doesn’t happen.

I wonder though how things will stand when Government announce that masks and social distancing is over....can the schools still enforce we wear one?

Yes, they can as it’s private property. They can say you can’t come into school grounds if you’re not wearing one. At the school I teach at, our Head has said it’s masks in the playground for quite a while yet as far as she’s concerned.

frozendaisy · 11/05/2021 07:54

Assume there will be some individuality school-to-school, you are best emailing the head.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/05/2021 07:56

I've stopped wearing mine. It's outdoors and I never get close to anyone - I'm not friends with any of the parents and I don't have time to stop and chat anyway as I have to rush off to work.

Chasanddive · 11/05/2021 07:59

From the start plenty of parents at our school haven’t worn masks or socially distanced, so it won’t make any difference to lots.

onemouseplace · 11/05/2021 08:01

Our school has already said we don’t have to wear masks for outside drop off/ pick up as long as we socially distance.

MusicMenu · 11/05/2021 08:01

Soon I hope, then I can stop picking the damn things up from my garden.

Whether said headteacher will get compliance from the masses in the coming weeks won’t be her decision though.

WouldBeGood · 11/05/2021 08:08

I’d just stop wearing it. It’s outdoors so no need.

They won’t actually stop you getting your dcs.

AmandaPlease · 11/05/2021 08:15

Just don't wear it. It's not even recommended, let alone compulsory, to wear masks outside (especially if like my school everyone queues 2m apart).

everythingthelighttouches · 11/05/2021 08:17

Everyone still wears their masks at my DS primary. It’s a small village school and we’re all outdoors to pick up.

It’s a few minutes of my life.

If there are outbreaks schools are a place where it is more likely to happen, as large numbers of people from different networks converge. Many parents of primary children and secondary children are unvaccinated due to age and of course the children are not vaccinated.

Thing is, community levels are lower now, but they are lower precisely because of social distancing measures like this.

Nothing to do with anyone getting ill, but I’d rather wear a mask at pick up and drop off than homeschool again because the bubble is closed.

ILookAtTheFloor · 11/05/2021 08:26

My children's school insist we wear them on the school run and it feels ridiculous to me. They've hinted in the newsletter that it'll stop on 17th May so let's hope it actually does. The school has plenty of space and first and foremost outside transmission is very rare.

OliveTree75 · 11/05/2021 08:50

Soon I hope. Seems pointless to me since it is outdoors and very brief. My kids school still send out regular texts reminding us to wear them and most still do.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 11/05/2021 08:55

It’s so pointless and a real case of “being seen to be doing something”.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/05/2021 09:03

We haven’t been allowed into the school playground since the pandemic started. We have to drop off on the road outside. No one stays 2m away everyone huddles up and drops off. So we are much closer than on the playground.

I’m happy to wear a mask, but no one else really does. We’ve been asked to stay 2m away and use a one way system, but no one gives a shit.

UsedUpUsername · 11/05/2021 09:07

Just don’t wear them.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/05/2021 09:08

DDs moved school at Easter. Old school didn't require masks, but the parents between bubbles were kept separate (ignoring the fact that most of us had children in different years) but current school has masks but everyone follows the same one way system.
