How protected do you stay from 1 vaccine?

Both DH & I have been vaccinated. 1 dose of AZ.

We are in our 30’s.

I was vaccinated in group 6, but DH is a police officer and works next to a vaccination centre.
At the end of each day they had been contacting his offices to offer vaccines, DH jumped at the change, being public facing in his job.

We are both due our second vaccines in 3 & 4 weeks time and are really considering not having them.

We felt assured when most of what we’d read / seen on the news, was that the rare blood clots occurred after the first dose.
However we have since seen that they also occur after the second.

We have a very young son and the thought of something happening to one of us and leaving him is terrifying.

We equally don’t want to become ill with Covid but it seems that the data suggests our age group is very low risk, but higher risk from a fatal clot with the vaccine.

I feel completely cheated. When I had my first dose the clot news had just started to appear, but it wasn’t in the UK.

If I knew then what I know now, I definitely would not have had AZ.

If we don’t get our second doses, how protected do we stay from Covid?
@whataballbag let me know what you do. Am still confused. Living like this isn't the answer either I suppose but for now I'm hoping COVID just gets better and one vaccine is enough
Promising results on mixing vaccines published Friday

Same.

My second az jab was due Friday through work snd I cancelled it as I'm 36 just as the guidelines had been altered to include under 40s. I'm now been bombarded with texts from the vaccination programme to book my second dose. I raised my concerns with my gp to be told I can still only have az and he totally dismissed my concerns regarding a blood clot. Mines due within 2 weeks 😒 just don't know what's the best option really xx

@sarahc336 @Ninefeettall thank you for your posts. It really is so frustrating. I think I had made up my mind totally to not get the second dose. I then changed my mind when I saw them say second doses should be okay. Now with there being blood clot cases with the second dose too and the fact that Germany and Spain are giving alternative/delaying second doses I've got my knickers all in a twist again. So annoyed at myself for rushing into getting a jab.
When I feel really frustrated I remind myself that I'm low risk for COVID too and then the over dramatic mood changes
Please let me know how you ladies proceed.
@whataballbag really ? Amazing ? Though compared to how much data there is on one dose I'm still concerned about mixing. Would you go for it if offered?

Yeah basically saying the short term effects are slightly worse (chills and fatigue) but I'd take that over the alternative.

I think I would to be honest. Surely it's like getting any vaccines a few
Months apart or together, like how babies get several at once? I'm not a scientist though just a paranoid hypochondriac

NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 13/05/2021 23:50

@whataballbag I'm a hypochondriac too so don't worry! The thing about mixing is it makes me feel more nervous with the lack of data. I think I may just wait for my immunity to go from this one. Once it's gone I can hopefully start a new one? Ahhhh too many choices. I feel like I have under a week to decide. Thanks for the update. Smile

NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 13/05/2021 23:54

@whataballbag the thing is I feel like one vaccine should provide long term protection, I just don't think it'll drop off a clip atleast for 6 months. It's just a theory and nothing to back it but what if immunity from one dose lasts a year, two doses two years? They really need to tell us how long it lasts for so it makes our decision easier. They don't release this data will they.

Looking up on the gov website and it's gone up from 6 to 8 rare blood blot events for the second dose.
