Long Covid type symptoms from vaccine?

unambiguousbeard · 08/05/2021 13:38

I had my first Pfizer way back in Jan. The usual side effects the day after for 24 hours and then again for a few days a fortnight later.

I had the second in mid March and no immediate side effects. However 3 weeks later I started a low grade fever which I've had ever since. I had extreme fatigue and was really quite ill for a good month alongside joint pain, pins and needles in my two smaller fingers on both sides, arm pain, thirst, night sweats....

it's now about one day in three so slightly improving but I've no idea what it is and I'm trying really hard not to worry and I can't imagine ever feeling properly well again.

Has anyone had similar around the vaccine? I've had blood tests for a variety of autoimmune disorders , waiting for the results, but the timing is weird. Even the gp suggested vaccine related. I guess I'm hoping someone says oh yeah I had that for a few months but now I'm fine. This cannot be my life going forward.

Coincidence. People get ill, have other illnesses besides covid and sometimes they happen 3 weeks after a vaccine.

unambiguousbeard · 08/05/2021 13:42

Maybe. But what condition causes a low grade fever, flu type symptoms and joint pain for 6 weeks? I just want to feel better

OP posts:
rarzy · 08/05/2021 13:42

Are the blood tests through your GP?

unambiguousbeard · 08/05/2021 13:43

Yes. The GP suggested it might be vaccine related.

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 08/05/2021 13:44

We're you tested for covid?
The vaccine doesn't stop it all and for some people they still get covid but at a lesser impact.

unambiguousbeard · 08/05/2021 13:46

Yeah testing twice weekly. LF but no one else in family have had any symptoms. It feels exactly like the couple of weeks after I had Covid back in April last year

OP posts:
rarzy · 08/05/2021 13:46

I was just going to say about covid, I know a few people who had it & the only symptom was joint pain.

HSHorror · 08/05/2021 15:04

I also had probable covid last apr.
Since may be jun ive had the numb fingers mainly right hand. At night. And also at night or lying down muscle twitches mainly in legs .
So could be delayed reaction to actual covid
Though would be interested to see if your thyroid tsh comes back high

unambiguousbeard · 08/05/2021 15:10

I'm already hypothyroid and had a test recently, all within range

Sunnyfreezesushi · 08/05/2021 15:12

When I had my 2nd Pfizer vaccination I had a mild allergic reaction (racing heart, very high blood pressure) so I had to stay at the centre for about an hour for monitoring by the doctor and she mentioned she had come across these types of delayed reactions to the mrna vaccine especially if you have had Covid before. Her DD also a medic had experienced this personally. As I was there for so long I ended up chatting to another middle aged woman who had had long Covid and a history of ME who was experiencing similar - vaccine induced symptoms of long Covid. She was still advised to have the vaccine again to protect her. I suspect we don’t know if long Covid sufferers could get the virus again and worse. I just don’t know.

unambiguousbeard · 08/05/2021 15:12

Do you mean restless legs? I have them a bit but it's more waking up with pins and needles along with shooting nerve pains from my shoulder to my ring and little fingers.

I'm just really fed up with feeling ill. Temp goes up and down all day and everything aches

OP posts:
unambiguousbeard · 08/05/2021 15:15

Thanks @Sunnyfreezesushi I know anecdotal evidence isn't reliable but it's all there is currently.

That's how if feels. Slightly post viral. I'm kind of hoping it is as then it should fade over time. Hopefully. Rather than being some horrendous auto immune condition

OP posts:
Sunnyfreezesushi · 08/05/2021 15:22

I think it should indeed hopefully fade over time. This doctor seemed to imply to me that some people’s immune system just reacts really badly to Covid and that could include reactions to the vaccine as well. I told her I would be worried to have a 3rd booster due to the racing heart rate and very high temperature side effects both times. She said she had seen this mainly in people who think they have had Covid before and she seemed to think we are the types to react badly to the virus so that it would always make more sense to keep on top of the vaccines. But as you say, this is one doctor, it is anecdotal, nobody knows, not even the top scientists. I think the best bet is to really look after your health in every shape and form, eat well, rest, avoid stress.

unambiguousbeard · 08/05/2021 15:27

Well that's it isn't it? No one knows. I don't think I'll have the booster. I've had longer and worse after effects from this than I did from actual Covid. And I can't spend another god knows how many more months not being able to function. I just need it to clear off. I was fine for 6 days then it all came back today which is making me hopeful it's going.

My immune system is weird anyway.

You've not picked up a tick at some point have you?

Sounds a bit like Lyme disease

unambiguousbeard · 08/05/2021 16:15

I haven't left london in months. And no bullseye tick bite. Lymes would be horrendous.

OP posts:
OwlTwitterings · 08/05/2021 16:22

It might be vaccinate related. It’s all still quite new and we are learning all the time.

HSHorror · 08/05/2021 17:39

Interestingly re lyme ive had a tic bite this week (so well after symptoms starting) no bullseye yet.
They are literally in all woods at the moment and i think it's maybe lockdown as everyone has been tramping through woodlands disturbing them. They could be in the grass in parks too.

Op that is very interesting re thyroid.
Have you started any extra vitamins as i read one vitamin can surpress tsh levels.

Problem with the numbness /pins and needles is it can be caused (like my muscle twitching by several things)
Carpel or cubital tunnel (which can be thyroid related.
MS
I think some vitamin deficiency.

Ive tried various things
B12
Iron
Calcium

But for me it may be throid related as gp took me off thyroxine.

Have they done an iron check?

It seems like low BP for me.
Or like i go into too deep a sleep and dont move.

Purpl · 08/05/2021 18:36

Oh no I’ve had 2nd Pfizer 36 hours on abs feel nausea and exhausted but in waves. So far better than last time no real temperature. After first one I had horrid pain behind knee to point 4 weeks on was tested for blood clot. It’s ok now still awaiting ultrasound. Could be coIncidence. Took me 4 weeks to feel well after last shot it triggered 2 migraines too, although I am a migraine sufferer.
The only I would say Is check for menopause even in late 30s OP the sweats could be that.
Will you keep us updated ? I’m fed up with people saying I was fine in 2 days 🙏

unambiguousbeard · 08/05/2021 18:44

I'm on a large dose of HRT. It's not menopause related.

It could be anything! I've also just realised I've put on weight for no apparent reason over the same time frame (2 months) which might be related.

I'll make sure to post if anything comes up
In blood tests as I'd hate to scare monger.

The thing with both the vaccine and the virus is that it affects everyone slightly differently

I think I'm hoping someone will pop on and say oh yeah that exact thing happened to me and lasted about x months. But of course that's impossible unless they pop back from the future!

OP posts:
Gygygygygygygygy · 08/05/2021 18:52

I've had body aches (particularly legs) and palpitations/dizziness - started 1 week after jab (AZ). Could be anything of course but the timing is suspect. Still got the aches/pains 5 weeks on and not improving. Booked in for a blood test in a couple of weeks.

Todaytomorrowyesterday · 08/05/2021 19:06

If your having symptoms you should have done a PCR test the LFT aren’t for people with symptoms. Though if it’s been going on for a while may be too late now?

Like others said it could just be a virus - I’ve felt quite crap recently low energy and low fever - it’s crap. But I’m guessing I’ve picked something up since going out a little more or from the kids at school.

baroqueandblue · 08/05/2021 19:45

Had my first dose 1st April. 6 weeks later and I have the most horrendous upper body musculoskeletal pain and inflammation. That's after weeks of flu symptoms on top of hay fever. It seems endless and very painful and debilitating. I went against my instinct to have the vaccine and should've listened to my inner voice. I had covid in March last year, very long and very painful. I can't believe I'm going through it all over again, but with much less resilience.

RainOnMe79 · 08/05/2021 21:19

I had covid in October, only very mildly. Had vaccine in January and since then have all the symptoms you described, started couple of days after vaccine. GP said probably long covid but it does seem too much of coincidence. Still not feeling right. Everyone else I know who has had it have been fine. I had Pfizer

Torvean · 08/05/2021 21:47

The majority of symptoms would happen regardless of the vaccine. A lot is related to lifestyle both mental and physical. Or you're already harbouring another virus.

Regarding a temp rise and heart rate increase I wouldn't worry. You can even get that with a placebo.
