What do you think?

Red amber green countries ? Will unvaccinated people be allowed entry?

Testing is likely to be a viable alternative to vaccine passports. There isn’t consensus on how information will be shared, and there are still legal, ethical and practical issues which haven’t been dealt with.

SpringSunshineandTulips · 03/05/2021 21:38

I don’t know. I read a news article today saying they aren’t sure if travel will happen in may as they need to make sure they don’t let any new variants into the country. 😢

Overthebow · 03/05/2021 21:46

I think it will be banned until June. They won't want thousands to travel over May school holiday. Thee will only be a few countries on the green list such as Israel, most countries will be amber and require quarantine.

I've got my fingers crossed for the traffic light system to be implemented on schedule and for Iceland to be green as predicted - then my parents will be on the next flight over :D

Both fully vaccinated so no quarantine this end and they'd even be in time for my daughter's birthday. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high but it's hard.

Friends who work for airlines have just had their furlough extended. There understanding is that there will be a quarantine period for travellers arriving from most of Europe. I hope they are wrong, but I’m not holding my breath,

Seems we are welcome to go to
Malta, but it was booked up months ago
Iceland, but it’s freezing
Tel Aviv, but the beaches will be packed

FizzyPink · 03/05/2021 22:52

When does everyone think the tiers will be announced? We’ve got a holiday booked that we have to pay for on Thursday. It’s all refundable anyway but if it’s not on the green list I’d rather not pay unnecessarily

Europe is rumoured to currently be orange and quarantine with the potential to change to green late June. This makes sense as right now the situation there isn’t great.

Yes because people risking their and their families lives to travel in incredibly unsafe and desperate conditions to flee the horrible conditions of their home countries is exactly the same as a pleasure trip to the south of France for baguettes and wine on the beach.

Assuming you voted for Brexit, have union jacks hanging in your windows and use phrases like 'they took our jobs'.

Personally I think foreign travel needs to continue to be restricted for the time being as the global roll out of vaccines isn't far enough along. The risk of importing new strains is still too high and it would be such a shame to negate all the progress being made in the U.K. with vaccinations and re-opening.

I suggest you write to Boris about why he has not taken control of our borders as he promised and you could while you are at it ask which of his mates the £350million a week for the NHS has gone to.
Geamhradh · 04/05/2021 06:56

The press is all saying it will be red and green lists.
Portugal and Malta to go straight to green. Spain and other places will follow probably by June.
Travel out of the UK will be allowed to those places by the UK govt so it will depend on each country's policy as to what they have to produce when they get there.
Into UK from green countries will be both vaccinations and/or negative test.

Oooh we've caught a live one. I think you mean "variants" But yes, the refugees who arrive are tested and immediately quarantined in holding centres. Try watching the news instead of Farage's insta.
Allaboutthatbass · 04/05/2021 07:05

I read @EyevorbigOne’s post as ironic ...

Morgan12 · 04/05/2021 07:09

I read it as uneducated and racist.

SexTrainGlue · 04/05/2021 07:15

Boris seems desperate to get some leisure travel going (there are business interests at stake)

But risk of importing variants is high, so I think the actuality of what will be permitted is going to be rather less than it seems

So next to no countries will be 'green', and even those might have an LFT regime attached.

But out govt will not impose vaccine passports, but will be making proof (vaccine and/or test) available in recognised/standardised form that can be used to satisfy entry requirements of destination countries.

ThornAmongstRoses · 04/05/2021 07:19

I really, really can’t see foreign travel being permitted in just over two weeks.

TheTeenageYears · 04/05/2021 07:19

There are two separate issues in this - which countries sit in which group for the purposes of return to the U.K. and which countries will allow travellers in from the U.K. The two are often very different lists.

I do love all the speculation on which countries will be green. Have seen Seychelles mentioned repeatedly and know they have vaccinated almost their entire population but not quite sure how they are going to jump from their current position on the red list to being a green list country so not sure what the relational behind green country speculation is.

ThornAmongstRoses · 04/05/2021 07:22

Something my friend sent me yesterday...

toucantoucaninatree · 04/05/2021 07:32
@toucantoucaninatree I think it's fairly obvious what her point is

People who are legally travelling have to go through tests, quarantines but come here on a dinghy and then it's fine..contradictory rules by our government once again.
Do you really think that asylum seekers arriving by boat are just sent on their merry way by the government?

Yes I know what she meant,it's a nice little passive aggressive xenophobic post. Lovely.

So for us, DH and I will have had both vaccines, so we'd just need do get tests for our DC's? (I know it's all speculation but my optimistic DH thinks we're going to France in July...

Do you observe the coast through a telescope :-)? I always think of dinghies as blow up crafts used for rescue.

People have always been able to travel if deemed essential and last summer a lot of people travelled for holidays. They have to quarantine.

I think June is too soon to resume normal travel, it really isn't worth taking the risk but it will happen eventually.

It'll entirely depend on what requirements France and the EU impose - is anyone keeping an eye on what's being said there?
