It seems infection rates are now quite low.

Soon please! Been shopping this morning and walked into about 3 things on the floor. I hate them so much, they affect my vision and awareness so much.
Shopping is such a horrible experience with them on.
Everyone is just head down, get it done, no interaction, no smiles.

Theforest · 01/05/2021 15:08

Rates are rising in my area so aren't dropping everywhere

Dolciedolly · 01/05/2021 15:44

I don't wear them anymore I literally have panic attacks and my mental health was taking a battering

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/05/2021 15:44

Hopefully June.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 01/05/2021 16:42

Keeping everything crossed for 21st June 🤞 But in case we have to carry on I’ve made some more comfortable, thinner ones for summer with looser elastic at the sides and I’ll wear those until the damn things disappear forever.

Vanillaradio · 01/05/2021 17:45

Nobody knows yet. But I'm hoping for June. I massively struggle with them.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 01/05/2021 17:52

I'm hoping for June too if all social distancing is to be scrapped by then then masks should go too, I think they're more for show and circus now than actual benefit or use

Dozer · 01/05/2021 17:54

My money’s on June!

Pinecone88 · 01/05/2021 18:03

I think it's quite naive to think that suddenly we won't have to wear masks after June. It's just not realistic, they will probably be required for some time in certain public places.

CarrieBlue · 01/05/2021 18:06

I hope they’ll continue to be worn for a long time - how fantastic if we can reduce flu outbreaks by something as simple as wearing masks in enclosed spaces like we’ve managed this year. I have no problem wearing one for as long as required.

Whatever9999 · 01/05/2021 18:24

Hopefully we'll get an idea in just over a week when we are updated on whether the next stage of the lifting of lockdown happens.

As far as I'm concerned it can't be soon enough. Cant actually wear one myself as it puts me in sensory overload, but other people wearing them also put me in overload. I've got sensory processing issues as part of my autism, struggle to work out what is behind what people are saying when I can see their mouth, don't have a clue when they're wearing masks. Also find it really uncomfortable to look at a masked face, I don't do eye contact but t
With eyes being the only part of the face visible my eyes are drawn to them. Which means I can't even pretend I'm looking at a face, I just end up looking somewhere the other side of the room. Plus because I'm getting stressed I find it even harder to pick their voice out when more than one person is talking

Pinkearedcow · 01/05/2021 18:32

I think they will be last things to go and that going forward maybe people will be encouraged to wear them when they have a cold etc.

I hate the bloody things, can't wait for them to be history.

ihavethehighground · 01/05/2021 18:33

I like wearing one. No tonsillitis, no cold, no flu

Wizzbangfizz · 01/05/2021 18:41

I have no intention of wearing one after 21 June and that day can't come soon enough.

CarmelBeach · 01/05/2021 18:46

If it's still law though, will you stop wearing one?

For me, reduced colds etc is, I suspect, more about not commuting. I was considered germ phobic before this, now I feel more normal! 😂

I am worried I'll fall over my feet in a shop. I would like them to go. Rates are low, vax rates are high and people are free to wear them if they would like to. I might if I get on a train in winter but I've ben lucky, I don't think my work will require rush hour travel in future.

I actually don't know what's been done on trains with air cooling. Is it recycled air so they'll have been switched off?

MumofPsuedoAdult · 01/05/2021 18:49

I think some people will choose to wear them indefinitely. I was in Hong Kong in December 2019 and surprised at how many were wearing masks (hangover from Sars/Mers?). It was about a month before we officially knew about Covid so not that.

Yes, i agree with you.

It’s been common in Asian countries for them to wear masks since at least the 1950s.

It’s not new for them nor related to a specific disease. It’s a hygiene courtesy towards others.

MissMaple82 · 01/05/2021 18:54

I dont wear a mask. But I think they will be around for the remainder of the year unfortunately 😕

osbertthesyrianhamster · 01/05/2021 19:04

I'm travelling to a place where they are not required in July. So I won't wear one.

bookworm1632 · 01/05/2021 19:38

It’s a hygiene courtesy towards others.

Indeed, but the concept of courtesy is lost on many me-first UK folk.

Wizzbangfizz · 01/05/2021 19:41

I don't think I will if it is law, I think that the people on here promoting their continued use should wear them if they wish because as adults we should all choose our own risk and what we are comfortable with. I'm willing to take my chances of getting colds/flu as I was before without giving it a seconds thought.

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 01/05/2021 19:42

I've never cracked wearing a mask with glasses so can't wait for them to go. I just steam up. And they have to sit under the bottom of my glasses which then pushes my glasses forward. I avoid going to places I'll have to wear one for long.

CarmelBeach · 01/05/2021 19:44

Re hygiene courtesy

I see that if you have a cold but I'd hope people stay home at the gross stage of a cold unless it really can't be avoided.

RoseAndRose · 01/05/2021 19:45

Unfortunately, think you may be something in this.

Also agree with a couple of posts I've seen that say it would be a good idea for masks to continue to be required in medical facilities and on public transport
