Has anybody managed to get Pfizer instead of astra zeneca?

If so, please share strategies.

I have a number of issues including sibling medical history that have led me to not want astra zeneca. None of these are on the list of official reasons to avoid it. But I don't want it. I went to my vaccination appointment today and explained this. They said I could have astra zeneca and that it was safe. They said they would not offer Pfizer (which people six feet away were having) because all the doses were allocated. I was advised to get a letter from my GP. However it was my GP who told me to go to the appointment and discuss at the centre. So I left without being vaccinated.

It seems like an impasse.

Has anybody managed to find a way through this?

@CorianderBee

If you're over 30 you have no choice other to PFZ
I'm over 30 and didn't get given Pfizer.
worriedatthemoment · 30/04/2021 16:46

worriedatthemoment · 30/04/2021 16:50

My friend and several others have all had az at the same place over the last few weeks

Astressedmumoftwo · 30/04/2021 16:51

I'm under 30 so assume I will?

AppleJane · 30/04/2021 16:57

@worriedatthemoment sorry for my earlier post, I thought you was being sarcastic but I see now you wasn't, apologies.

worriedatthemoment · 30/04/2021 16:59

@AppleJane thats ok its easy to confuse posts on here or miss some

DDiva · 30/04/2021 17:11

@Crovine

I really don’t think you get to choose.

Why the actual fuck not though?

Because if everyone had a choice it would be chaos...... If everyone turned up demanding a specific vaccine and refusing altogether if not it would be impossible to manage.

What time of day was his vaccine? My friend also got Pfizer today at a 4pm appt.
Staffy1 · 30/04/2021 20:15

@AppleJane

Most people know that 41 people have died with the AZ blood clot issue (average age 47)

But there have also been a further 685 deaths recorded against AZ which we have no information for because they are being discounted as 'old'.

The odd people on the data thread are trying to compare each week's data because the full information is not being released. For example, this week's data records another 9 deaths and the average age has remained the same so perhaps we can assume they all relate to the current people being vaccinated. We don't want to assume. We just want transparency so people can make an informed choice. We are not anti vaccine.

This is why I don't get why it's now considered fine for us middle aged lot to have it, but considered not great for under 30s who will be offered something else. It seems most of the deaths have been older people (middle aged up). Perhaps we're just not that important.

@DDiva they let people choose in the UAE. It’s doable if they wanted to make it happen.
Btw I’m happy to take any jab offered.

That not really comparable to here tho. Our population must be 4 or 5 times the size of the UAE.

@crovine, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation now agree with your viewpoint:

Yes, amazing isn't it. One week I'm an ungrateful entitled twat who, due to my inability to understand statistics, is selfishly bringing the sainted NHS to its knees. And the next I'm correct.

Exactly! 😂😂

TruelyWonder · 08/05/2021 21:59

Apple nobody should have called you names and personally I didn't see you do anything other than raise a worry or doubt. Which is why we have these boards

Some posters were making up their own data without all the facts and spreading misinformation though. So I can see why some people got annoyed. It was only ever about a weighing up of risk and that remains the case.

Hopefully we can now just get on with jabbing people. However the boards are a mess of worried people at the moment. It better not be a reflection on real life take up.

Tistheseason17 · 08/05/2021 23:04

PPs commented based on facts at the time and were annoyed OP was repeatedly attending and declining what was offered - thereby wasting time.

Some under 40s will still weigh up the risks and still have AZ rather than waiting. But it's a bit poor form to criticise those who posted when OP could have AZ but did waste NHS time.

I'm glad she's getting what she wants but it will be interesting how long it takes for these vaccines to be available to all under 40s. But risk is much lower now so JCVI could only make this decision.

Schmetterling1 · 08/05/2021 23:45

But it's a bit poor form to criticise those who posted when OP could have AZ but did waste NHS time.

No, it’s poor form to attempt to bully and belittle someone into accepting a vaccine that is soon after decided to be unsafe for them.
