Where to get Pfizer in London?

blackflower2 · 29/04/2021 15:41

Can anyone advise which vaccination centres are giving Pfizer this week?
I can book anywhere in or around London and am happy to go end of day.

No whining british-style moralising, please. Go to another thread if that’s your thing.

(UK only western country at the moment giving AZ to 40-50 year olds and I have no trust in UK/NHS guidelines after achieving top 10 of worst death rates in the world.)

If it's medically indicated, your GP will arrange it, but you might have to wait - it seems to be in use for second jabs and only first jabs for those where it's medically indicated (bit of a hiccup in supply in April)

Otherwise you get what they have on the day and there's no way to predict

murbblurb · 29/04/2021 15:51

Sounds like another country would suit you better as you hate the people of this one so much. Feel free.

Nope not true.

Btw if AZ is so bad, why do you think the EU is sueing AZ - and demanding the UK 'immediately' hands over supplies?

BiggerBoat1 · 29/04/2021 15:58

Just get whatever bloody vaccine you're offered and stop believing all the shite. Or don't and risk getting ill or passing Covid on to someone you love. Easy really.

mynameiscalypso · 29/04/2021 16:00

I had it this week at Lord's but they only had one day this week and it was reserved for second doses. None of the other vaccine centres in Westminster/NW London were offering appointments that I could see this week.

Couldn’t say it better myself
Divebar2021 · 29/04/2021 16:28

I just felt great relief to be vaccinated at all.

EileenGC · 29/04/2021 16:31

I don’t know about London vaccination centres, but I can confirm to you that the western, advanced, EU country I live in is currently offering AZ to any adult over 18 willing to take it.

I will personally be waiting for Pfizer which should be available to everyone in June or so, but it’s not true that no other country is offering AZ to your age bracket.

zzzebra · 29/04/2021 16:31

Our local doctors centre released a statement saying that majority of Pfizer is currently reversed for second doses.

However the large vaccination centre seems to alternate between offering Moderna and AZ.

WaitinginWorcestershire · 29/04/2021 16:32

UK is not the oy Western country giving AZ to 40 - 50 year old.......

EileenGC · 29/04/2021 16:33

By the way, the AZ guidelines aren’t set by the UK or the NHS. There are much bigger and important organisations who decide these things and their safety. I say that as someone who isn’t a fan of AZ either, but let’s not spread misinformation unnecessarily. The vaccine is effective and safe. Personal preference if you don’t want it, but let’s not trash it when it’s a perfectly good jab.

minniemomo · 29/04/2021 16:42

If you want a vaccine, take what is given! We would be in the same mess as other countries if we haven't used the AZ. I've had AZ, my 22 year old dd has had AZ weeks ago (cv)

Cuntryhouse · 29/04/2021 16:45

Pfizer really isn't superior to AZ. I found this video from Dr John Campbell really interesting. You're more likely to develop a PVT than a CVT, and the risks for Pfizer are way higher than AZ . Even the CVT risk is only 4.1% compared to 5%.

So many threads on middle aged people seeking Pfizer.

EileenGC · 29/04/2021 16:51

Superior or not, it’s some people’s preference. My mum would prefer AZ. I would prefer Pfizer. None of us spread misinformation about either vaccine, and we will take what we’re offered (a choice of 3 vaccines where we live) when the time comes. I’ll still prefer Pfizer and that’s my personal choice.

ChequerBoard · 29/04/2021 16:53

So many threads of this nonsense.

The vaccination centres aren't focussed on using one specific brand of vaccine. They get what they are given deliver that. Mostly AZ as that is what we have bought the most stock of nationally.

If you have a genuine medical reason not to have AZ that will be determined via the medical screening questions you will go though at your vaccination appointment. If you have a genuine medical need, you will be offered an alternative. If not, please stop wasting people's time with this hand wringing!

Hoppinggreen · 29/04/2021 16:54

It’s fine to have a preference but it’s impossible to say which vaccine is at which centre so you either take what’s on offer or don’t have it
The safety advice and guidelines are usually down to the MHRA, which is neither The Government or The NHS

endofthelinefinally · 29/04/2021 17:00

You don't get a choice and neither do the vaccine centres. Currently, as pp have said, the Pfizer supplies are reserved for 2nd doses. As far as I am aware, the brand supplied to vaccination hubs is based on the transport and storage facilities. Pfizer is the tricky one wrt to transport and storage. No vaccine is available privately in the UK.

Cuntryhouse · 29/04/2021 17:00

Bit surely the preference must be based on data?

ShaunaTheSheep · 29/04/2021 17:02

Take what you are offered.
I had my second Pfizer ten minutes ago and everyone here is also getting their second dose.
The AZ risk is minuscule.

ImTheWolfToday · 29/04/2021 17:18

You don’t get to choose, and there’s no fool proof way of booking to guarantee a particular one. If you have a medical reason speak to your GP, otherwise your choice is to take what you’re offered or refuse it. I’d check your facts though, the UK is not the only western county offering AZ to that age group,l.

frozendaisy · 29/04/2021 17:42

So no one can predict, anywhere, for first jabs.

Book an appointment, if it's not the vaccine make you want walk out and book another and keep walking out until you either get the vaccine you want or change your mind.

What other "I am really really special so will play the system" options do you have?

Next year private companies will do a lot of jabs so you can pay for the specific you want then.

nonaomi · 29/04/2021 17:43

@blackflower2 what does this mean :

No whining british-style moralising, please.

What do you mean ? I'm so curious !

nonaomi · 29/04/2021 17:45

Moralising definition :

comment on issues of right and wrong, typically with an unfounded air of superiority.
