So are we all getting a booster in Autumn then?

Just seen the news that Hancock has ordered 60m Pfizer doses. So is that all the adult population given booster in the Autumn?
Will that be alongside the AZ that most people have had do you think?

I’m 57, was originally group 6, but then upgraded to “very high risk” in February. I had my second dose of Pfizer yesterday, and had previously had Covid before my first dose.

I will look at the advice, of course, but am dubious about the need for a booster unless it is one that addresses new variants. I mean, I’ve effectively had 3 doses already. I saw a report the other day saying that someone who had had Covid plus one dose was better protected than someone who had had two doses and not had Covid.

I’m open, is what I’m saying.

Hopefully boosters will be available to everyone.

goldwallpaperisgross · 29/04/2021 14:14

Is it a possibility they're getting ready to vaccinate under 16's also. Early trails on Pfizer in under 12's has shown promising results hasnt it

Ah yes, the 60 million Pfizer doses (which are described as boosters) could well be used in children as well, which might explain why boosters are for groups 1-4, according to vaccines minister on TV news this morning.

Mrex: I had Pfizer, so fingers crossed it is also effective against the Indian variant(s)

I think Covid vaccines will be annual (or perhaps 6-monthly) as with flu vaccines for those at risk, or even those involved in transmission most (isn't that why primary school children get flu vaccines currently).

RedcurrantPuff · 29/04/2021 15:28

I wondered if it may be groups 1 - 9, someone posted a link on MN earlier that said you can’t get more than 2 doses of AZ due to the type of vaccine it is. So maybe we will all get a Pfizer booster.

Tealightsandd · 29/04/2021 15:30

As an absolute minimum they need to do everyone over 40.

Ilovecrumpets · 29/04/2021 15:31

I wonder if this is to give capacity if want to offer to children. It seems likely Pfizer will shortly be approved for use in children and I think the difficulties with the small risk with AZ would mean unlikely to offer that.

It would at least give that option.

10s of millions of us haven’t had a first dose yet. Good to have it in the bank (so to speak) but will it help the NHS to be using so much of their resources doing this all autumn and winter too? Or would it be linked in with the flu jab round and not such a labour intensive exercise?

PuzzledObserver · 29/04/2021 19:12

There are about 14 million adults who haven’t yet had a first dose - some of whom can’t, and some of whom won’t. And about 16 million under 18’s - but it doesn’t seem likely we will vaccinate all the way down to babies.

bookworm1632 · 29/04/2021 19:52

The Pfizer jabs are mainly for the

RoseWineTime · 29/04/2021 21:35

There is a trial going on currently giving the second covid booster with the flu vaccine so the results of that will be very helpful.

51% of the U.K. population have had a first dose and 21% have had the second.

My surgery told me today that they are using lots of St John's Ambulance volunteers to help with the delivery of the vaccine.

Blubellwood · 30/04/2021 02:01

“51% of the U.K. population have had a first dose and 21% have had the second.”

True but I’m unsure of your point in reply JCVD. Are you saying she’s wrong? Because she’s not. Tens of millions have had it and tens of millions have not.

doomonic · 30/04/2021 07:52

As the pp mentioned millions of young people haven't had 1 jab yet.

Heatherjayne1972 · 30/04/2021 21:48

I reckon they’ll incorporate it with the flu vaccine. So anyone who needs it will get it in the usual way in the autumn. The rest of us will pay for it as normal

You mean give it at the same time? At the moment you have to leave a gap between the two, so they will have to do a trial to show it is ok (I believe the studies are planned/taking place)
Dementedswan · 30/04/2021 23:03

I think thibk it should be offered to the group 1 though 9 and also over 45 x

QueenPaw · 01/05/2021 19:18

The guy who did my second vaccine today mentioned boosters were very likely
