18-30 year olds called for vaccine. Teenagers next?

18-30 year olds are being called for first vaccines in our area now (north Wales). Does anyone know if teenagers will be called next and which vaccine will be used?

Mamimawr · 28/04/2021 13:41

or will they step up on second vaccines?

I think that the jabs are approved for use on over-16s. Trials for children are still ongoing (though may have been paused).

halcyondays · 28/04/2021 13:44

I thought only one of the vaccines - Pfizer? had been licensed for 16-18 years and for under 16s they’re still in trials for all of them?

Eccle80 · 28/04/2021 13:45

Pfizer is licensed for 16+ but I think currently plans are only for 18+ to be vaccinated plus 16 and 17 year olds who were in group 6.

I would hope next supplies would go to other areas, I have to admit I struggle hearing of healthy 20 somethings being vaccinated whilst I am still waiting as an asthmatic 40 year old

Mrsjayy · 28/04/2021 13:47

Children are not getting vaccinations atm are they did you not know this ? Where you live must be whizzing through them many places are not on the 40s yet

rainbowthoughts · 28/04/2021 13:48

The teenagers who are going get the vaccine are 18 & 19 - so fall within the group you speak about.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 28/04/2021 14:15

16-18 year olds who are either CV or live with certain immunocompromised CEV people are being currently vaccinated as are young people with severe mental health condition status

My 17 and 18 year olds who are in both categories were vaccinated last week at a specific clinic off the age group

Currently ONLY Pfizer is licensed under 18 but that may change soon

Nootkah · 28/04/2021 14:21

@Mrsjayy Yes Wales is flying through. Its a smaller population and is being run very differently to the self booking in England. It seems fairer in lots of ways.

@Eccle80 The Welsh NHS (and the Scottish) is a different organisation to the English NHS and so the allocation is to Wales separately. Such a shame youre still waiting... What on earth is that about?

Nootkah · 28/04/2021 14:24

@Mamimawr The trials are still ongoing for under 16, but Ive seen that, subject to trial data, secondary age children are likely to be offered vaccintion in the autumn, and primary age in the winter. Obviously depends on trial data but looks likely.

Frazzled2207 · 28/04/2021 14:28

only certain 16-18 (CEV and perhaps living with CEV) will get it .Only pfizer is authorised for this age group. There are trials ongoing but at this stage I don't think many under 18s will be vaccinated until the autumn at the earliest.

Mrsjayy · 28/04/2021 14:29

@Nootkah I'm in Scotland and we don't have the booking system either except for unpaid carers who can register,

Eccle80 · 28/04/2021 14:33

@Nootkah I thought it was being allocated to each country relative to population though, so would have expected the nations to be roughly in line. Scotland seem to be further behind again than England as I have seen late 40s say they haven’t been called.
I just need another year and a bit added on to the national booking system for me!

Nootkah · 28/04/2021 15:25

@Eccle80 it is being allocated according to population. What each country does, and how they disstribute it (e.g. Self booking vs only appointment letters sent, GP coordination vs mass vacvination centres). The difference between the countries and between the regions in the uk is around how those vaccinations are being administered, the profile of the population, the behaviour of the population etc.

Hope you get your appointment soon.

I’m baffled by this tbh, my DS 21 had his letter last week, I’m 50 and still not heard a thing. Doctors are doing 2nd jabs and I’m getting no sense when I ring the vaccination number, particularly concerning as they tell me I’m in group 6, when I’m not. So frustrating

Totalbeach · 28/04/2021 23:59

It's not licensed for teenagers and even if they were, most people would refuse since Covid doesn't really affect kids.

Torvean · 29/04/2021 02:53

Covid does affect kids. If not there would be no class closures. There are 2 trials just to start one aged 11-17 , one aged 6-12 and there are plenty of ppl letting their children take part.

EighTEEN and nineTEEN are very clearly teenagers with all vaccines used in the UK licensed for their use. Pfizer is thus far the only one licensed for 16+
IHaveBrilloHair · 29/04/2021 03:09

My 19yr old had her first one a few weeks ago as a carer.

If you're in England you can book online or call 119 no need to wait for anything
Mindymomo · 29/04/2021 06:12

Here in Surrey, we are still on over 40’s.

exLtEveDallas · 29/04/2021 06:16

My 16 year old has hers tomorrow. It came as a surprise, but I believe that her doctor considers her CV. I am very happy she is having it, as is she.

Starstruck2021 · 29/04/2021 06:22

I’m in South Wales and I know people in their 20s with appointments for next week.

It does effect them though. Already my year 10 is back in isolation, messing up plans for bank holiday and disrupting learning again. How much longer will parents be able to keep jobs when they have to stay at home with isolating children every few weeks? Never being able to plan anything in advance as you never know if the kids will be back in isolation yet again. Not to mention variants cropping up amongst kids which could either affect them more or mean adult vaccination isn’t as effective.

I don’t think it’s likely to be anytime soon though as they’ve stopped the Oxford trials. There was talk of a nasal spray like the flu vaccine but think that’s further off and I don’t know which vaccine it was based on.

I've had no letters. All done by text, which must have increased speed and efficiency of the booking process a lot. I got a text inviting me to book online and both times I got an appointment a couple of days later. My GP surgery was trying to get all our mobile numbers a few years ago and it's paid dividends now. (London.)

Lubiluxe · 29/04/2021 07:38

Yes I've family in Wales too. They were much slower initially due to the appointments rather than self booking.. plus an older population overall but now they are all done plus nhs and health care staff, some areas are now on to 20 somethings.. Good for them!
