If you are still waiting for the vaccine or chose not to have it

Are you feeling anxious/nervous? I struggle with anxiety as it is and have been working from home all through last year and until now. I follow every rule and still wipe down grocery/quarantine mail etc.

Now that the rules are relaxed by the government and judging by the high street today (I was not in the high street was driving past to get to a woodland for a walk) I think the public has pretty much decided that the pandemic is over.

I feel quite anxious now as inevitably work will want us back- the vaccinated at work will have a blasé attitude and not be strict about following the rules. How am I going to protect myself?

Is it a case of carry on being anxious until my turn to vaccinate and keep my fingers crossed OR if I chose not to have the vaccine then is this a way of coercing me to go for it?

Early 30s with no underlying conditions so not vaccinated yet but I'm 32wks pregnant so covid could be bad if I caught it at this stage in pregnancy. Delighted pregnant women are now allowed to get the jab but kind of annoyed that I have to wait till under 35s are called as that's another month or so out. Midwife and NHS website all day pregnant women are clinically vulnerable but we still have to wait for our age group to be called before we can be jabbed. It's quite worrying.

homesickinscotland · 18/04/2021 19:02

40s, and very anxious about going back to the office unvaccinated. We've stayed off all year to protect the vulnerable, our kids have had their education ruined, and now feels we're being thrown under the bus. I really really don't want to risk getting ill or getting long covid for the sake of a few more weeks

ZenNudist · 18/04/2021 19:03

I'm 42 and not nervous. I'm not CEV so should be fine if I get it. I don't want it but I think its best to have a rational view on the risks.

Time to stop wiping down shopping. I'm sorry you are in this state. The government health message has been very effective but you dont need to live life in fear.

Wegobshite · 18/04/2021 19:09

I’ve not had it although I’m in the age group to get and could get it pretty much straight away if I wanted to .
But I’ve seen 1 family member really really ill from it as in hospital for several weeks and I am aware of a few other people that I know who have also had quite bad reactions.

But I also know plenty of people who have had the jab and been fine . My DH had nothing more than a dodgy belly and felt a bit rough . My sister and most of my friends have had it with minor or sometime no symptoms .
I’m probably the only one of my family and friends holding off at the moment -But I have no plans to travel abroad this year so I’m not in any rush

Ultimatecougar · 18/04/2021 19:12

I'm 50 so I have just had a vaccine but I've been working outside the home all through, had kids in school when open, not wiped any shopping down and I've never been particularly worried. If the vaccine wasn't available to me, I still wouldn't be worried.

If you don't have an underlying condition that would make you vulnerable to Covid, even at 50 you'd probably be ok.

Heysiriyouknob · 18/04/2021 19:17

I'm 40.

I won't be offered the vaccine unless they start doing it via something other than GP registration as I've been a private patient for 20 years now, not registered with a private GP.

I wouldn't be banging down the doors for it anyway but everyone else can crack on.

Heysiriyouknob · 18/04/2021 19:17

*not registered with an NHS GP. I see private ones.

ZoBo123 · 18/04/2021 19:21

I would see a doctor for your anxiety and they may be able to help you to feel reassured. 99.9 percent of all the people who have died or been severely ill with Covid would have fallen into the top groups of vaccines (most in first four groups). There is a reason you haven't been vaccinated yet. If there was a real risk to healthy young people who are more likely to catch it due to needing to go out and about more than any other group, they would have already been done. You are waiting so the government can say they have done everyone, realistically they probably didn't need to even bother with anyone healthy under 40. Please try and stop wiping shopping too it may be a small step to help you feel more confident with everything else

toadstool32 · 18/04/2021 19:23

I'm 32 and a teacher and I'm thrilled that I've had it! My husband is 40 and is still waiting.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/04/2021 19:28

I'm focusing on lots of good food, fresh air, exercise, good times with friends and mental health. I don't have energy to give to worrying about a virus that's unlikely to effect new to any extent.

Just because you don’t ‘have the energy’ doesn’t mean other people don’t worry. Not everyone can focus on ‘good food’Confused

fudgefox · 18/04/2021 19:47

Work in a school, will be anxious until I get it. Feel like a sitting duck.

loulouljh · 18/04/2021 19:48

Not having it and completely relaxed. Don't think about getting Covid. Never have. Please remember how effective the Government scaremongering has been,,,

fudgefox · 18/04/2021 19:52

@loulouljh

Easy to feel relaxed when you don't know people that have died, I imagine. I'm making assumptions but this is usually the case.

loulouljh · 18/04/2021 19:55

True I don't know anyone who has died from it. I barely know anyone who has had it! But I know many people who are suffering from awful mental health issues. I know one lady who has been diagnosed some months ago with secondary cancer and still not treated (in her 30s). So I worry far more about other things than covid because that's my experience.

applesandoranges221 · 18/04/2021 19:56

@fudgefox not true.

I know four people who have sadly passed away. Still both incredibly relaxed and very anti lockdown!

CallforHecate · 18/04/2021 20:02

I haven’t been offered it yet. Obviously I’ll take it when I can get it. The delay in rolling it out to the under 50s was a real blow for me. I’m fortunate that my employer isn’t requiring us to go back into the office yet - but lots of my colleagues who have been vaccinated are going back in and planning pub drinks and so on. I feel like those of us who haven’t got it yet have been forgotten, to be honest.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 18/04/2021 20:03

I think the public have pretty much decided the pandemic is over

No they haven't, the problem is we are a tiny island with a huge population making it impossible at times to social distance in public spaces, there simply isn't enough room for everyone to maintain 2m distance. Without marshalls on every street corner monitoring how many people are in one street or public space at a time we need to get used to seeing crowds again. I doubt anyone is purposely going out to create a crowd, they're simply going about their daily business .

CallforHecate · 18/04/2021 20:04

And please don’t tell me that ‘our time will come’. Rationally I know that. But the number of first vaccinations hasn’t increased much at all since it was opened to those 45-49 so clearly it’s going to take a while to get through them. The horizon still looks very distant.

QuietBatPeople1 · 18/04/2021 20:06

@fudgefox please do not turn this into anti/pro vaccination conversation- that was not my intention

My question/worry is different- Im not about to advice/judge people on vaccinating or not as it’s not place - their body/their choice and I respect that.

Also don’t want the vaccine police to report this thread and get it closed down like a lot of other threads lately on this site.

I am feeling very anxious about catching Covid still and keen to be vaccinated ASAP. I’m 40, asthmatic and BMI over 30, so I worry about the chances of being very ill and long covid, and with three children at school I can’t avoid the risk of them bringing it home

loulouljh · 18/04/2021 20:21

i also think just because you may know people who have died, it doesn't mean you are automatically worried. Whilst clearly each death is a tragedy you have to retain perspective. I know people will be jumping around in outrage at this, but the deaths at £125k(ish) out of our population of 60m plus. 10 deaths from Covid today. 450 from cancer.

NothingInterestingToDeclare · 18/04/2021 20:33

Early 40s, asthmatic, still waiting, feels like it will never be my turn. Feel like all the non severe asthmatics have been thrown under a bus and just very fed up with it all now.

blueangel19 · 18/04/2021 20:34

You should not be that anxious. Cases are very low at the moment and you are due to be called for the vaccine in the next few weeks.

MooseBreath · 18/04/2021 20:40

I haven't been vaccinated yet. I'll be 30 in July, so will be mad if I'm offered AstraZeneca as if I'd been vaccinated in June (after the estimation of May), they wouldn't give it to me as it's too dangerous... That said, I'll take whatever I'm offered.

I'm not worried about catching Covid. I think I had it last February, but obviously can't prove it because they weren't testing at the time. I'm young, healthy, and the risk is very low that I'd be particularly I'll.

Dowser · 18/04/2021 20:43

@Waxonwaxoff0

I haven't been vaccinated, I'm 30. No, I'm not anxious, because the reason I haven't been vaccinated yet is because I am low risk of getting very ill if I catch Covid, the same as everyone else who hasn't been offered the vaccine yet.
I’m twice your age wax and the reason I declined the vax is I don’t fancy a game of Russian roulette with my life.

I’m not fearful or anxious about I getting it. If I was going to get it it would’ve been when evacuated from Tenerife in an overcrowded airport last March.

I protect my immune system and it protects me.
