Oh, changing policy now it hits the news, what a surprise. Vile behaviour.

I completely agree Bordois

It is not "a very pertinent point". Apart from the odd few weirdos on forums, nobody blames anyone for getting unwell, they say get better soon, it's an unrelated point that can go on its own thread. An NHS staff member was just trying to make a cosmetic appointment and found out the company had actively decided to refuse to allow anyone caring for covid patients to attend appointments. The only purpose I can see was to try to divert the thread from discussing the terrible behaviour of this company.

I think the point is that treating individuals as walking disease risks is never going to go well.
DisorganisedOrganiser · 15/04/2021 20:15

Thank you for publicising this OP. Looking at their social media there are a lot of unhappy NHS staff and rightly so. Appalling behaviour.

borntobequiet · 15/04/2021 20:15

TBF, and speaking as an partner of an NHS worker, the PPE in the UK is not of an adequate standard and never has been during the pandemic.

An FFP1 mask is barely medical grade, it is the same as the general public wear. In Europe even the general public have to wear a minimum of FFP2, and this is also much more common in the USA.

The UK has only supplied NHS staff with the lowest grade possible, which is a major factor in the thousands of health and social care deaths.

Regardless of which, NHS staff (or their families) should not be excluded or discriminated against.

If Benefit felt strongly, they could have lobbied the government (clearly very easy to sway given the right lobbyist) and pushed for proper medical grade PPE for the NHS. Not too late to fix this either.

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 15/04/2021 20:20

Wouldn't touch benefit anymore anyway, they are far from cruelty free so not for me!!

Benefit don't give a stuff. They just issued the order and probably never thought there'd be a backlash.

Why do you think this company were refusing to allow certain people to make appointments if its not based on a judgement on their likelihood to spread xovid?
MercyBooth · 15/04/2021 20:23

I cant afford the Benefit brand. Too expensive.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/04/2021 20:26

My private physio wouldn't see me in December because I work in a school.

THIS!

Pomegranatespompom · 15/04/2021 20:29

I wasn’t aware they had a negative track record of poor employment rights plus animal testing. I’ll be avoiding from now on and I regularly purchased.
They misjudged hugely.

That is at least a better apology Pomegranatespompom

That's terrible! And rather shortsighted as with all we have learned about this virus, anyone could have been carrying it.
Pomegranatespompom · 15/04/2021 20:40

I think they were forced into it @DisorganisedOrganiser

MRex · 15/04/2021 20:41

@Bordois - regardless of your protestations, I think you can work out why there is a difference between people who are working in medical roles with PPE, and people who should legally be isolating because they have been spending time with an infected friend or family member.

OP posts:
DisorganisedOrganiser · 15/04/2021 20:43

Oh yes they must have been forced. The NHS is a huge employer. Not the best idea to piss off a load of its staff when you are trying to sell a product in a difficult economy.

MercyBooth · 15/04/2021 20:46

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot thats appalling.

MRex · 15/04/2021 20:48

I hope you have a new physio? That's disgraceful.

But thats pretty much the point that poster was making. Decisions like this are a consequence of classifying people by their potential virus status!

She, and I, are not saying Benefit are in anyway correct or justified in their actions, but that their actions are a progression of this attitude towards risk

MercyBooth · 15/04/2021 20:59

YY @Bordois Spot on.

Bit of a shit apology.

"We never meant to exclude anyone"

Well, except for those who didn't meet all the requirements we put in place specifically to exclude some people.

Do they really not see the contradiction there?
