Astra Zeneca: pins and needles

On subject of vaccine side effects, has anyone experienced pins and needles in hands or feet 4 weeks after vaccine. DP and I are having this as just wondering if it could be an AZ side effect.

OP posts:
QwertyGirly · 15/04/2021 12:00

I had pins and needles with AZ in hands and feet (and the right side of my face, I had the jab in my right arm, don't know if it has anything to do with this) for about 48 hours, didn't report it, but if it's four weeks I think you should report it.

Lumene · 15/04/2021 16:04

Do you have a carbon monoxide alarm? Might be worth double checking if you are both getting this as it can be a symptom:

@QwertyGirly, I'd make sure this gets reported via the yellow card system, even if it was relatively short lived. Really important to document.

OP, sorry I can't help with this. I do know some others who've had it as a side effect, but I think it had resolved within 4 weeks. Hope it clears up for you both soon.

alreadytaken · 15/04/2021 22:54

You need to discuss this with your gp - and yes, yellow card report.

everythingthelighttouches · 15/04/2021 23:11

Be careful not to assume everything is due to the jab.

Think about what you would do if you had those symptoms, for that duration and hadn’t had the jab. Would you go to your GP? If so, go now.

If you are both suffering neurological symptoms, it is much more likely to be environment.

I agree with PP who said check carbon monoxide alarm.

Lumene · 16/04/2021 11:40

How are you doing OP? Do you both still have symptoms or has it resolved?

IloveSooty424 · 16/04/2021 13:33

I had this but only had my vaccine one week ago. I had numbness and pins and needles in my vaccinated arm and hand. If you look on the AZ info sheet they give you, it says in clinical trials there were rare reports of pins and needles, but after four weeks I would reporting it to your GP.

TheRealMrsMorningstar · 16/04/2021 13:52

I had pins and needles (plus palpitations and skull crushing headache worse than any migraine or cluster headache I’ve ever experienced in my life) but they didn’t last beyond the week. I yellow carded my symptoms. I think you need to yellow card (even if they are not obviously linked as it allows a bigger picture to be built) and also speak to your GP.

I have my second dose this week and not looking forward to it to be honest.

Downriver · 16/04/2021 16:01

It is only very occasionally. I think we will yellow card and see if it contributes to a bigger picture.

This is what needs to be ruled out if it persists www.nhs.uk/conditions/guillain-barre-syndrome/

mustlovegin · 21/04/2021 14:09

@IloveSooty424 and @QwertyGirly

Did you manage to speak to your GP about it and could they advise as to whether any tests should be done before taking the 2nd dose?

QwertyGirly · 21/04/2021 14:10

It has now passed but I did report it.

All back to normal now.

IloveSooty424 · 21/04/2021 14:12

@mustlovegin I spoke to my GP about it and he was very reassuring and encouraged me to have my second dose. I had my vaccine just under two weeks ago and I have had no lasting side effects of pins and needles. I just have a bruise at the vaccine site and my arm still a bit sore!

mustlovegin · 21/04/2021 14:22

I do know some others who've had it as a side effect, but I think it had resolved within 4 weeks

@GoldfinchCharm did your acquaintances (who experienced pins and needles) go on to have their 2nd doses, and did they experience the same side effect the 2nd time?

mustlovegin · 21/04/2021 14:30

Thank you! @QwertyGirlyert and @IloveSooty424

I had my 1st dose yesterday. I could feel very faint pins and needles starting during the evening and still feeling them now on and off (very subtle but noticeable as it's not a something I normally experience)

I also had a fever overnight (38C which resolved with paracetamol). No longer have a fever now.

Do you know how the process works for Yellow Card reporting? Do they contact you to follow up individually or is it mainly done to collect information and you are required to monitor any side effects with your GP?

QwertyGirly · 21/04/2021 14:32

coronavirus-yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

QwertyGirly · 21/04/2021 14:33

I just reported it on this website, not with GP and no follow up.

mustlovegin · 21/04/2021 14:33

DH had his first dose and had no symptoms at all Envy Grin

I will report through Yellow Card

mustlovegin · 21/04/2021 14:34

Thank you!

RedMarauder · 21/04/2021 14:51

@mustlovegin Some people don't have any side effects from the jab they are given.

Apparently the AZ and any other adenovirus Covid vaccine you have worse side effects after the first jab if you are going to get side effects.

With the mRNA vaccines like Moderna the worse side effects are after the second jab if you are going to get side effects.

mustlovegin · 21/04/2021 15:09

Some people don't have any side effects from the jab they are given

@RedMarauder Yes, I know. Both my parents and my SIL have had their first doses with no side effects bar (my DM and SIL) a low level fever for a couple of days which resolved with paracetamol

I have two autoimmune conditions (Hashimoto and Coeliac) so I'm trying to identify any potential issues early and understand what I need to do just in case. I'm sure it'll be fine (I do not usually react to my regular jabs - flu, travel vaccines, etc). I'm also glad to have had the vaccine

TheRealMrsMorningstar · 22/04/2021 20:03

@QwertyGirly

It has now passed but I did report it.

All back to normal now.

Glad you are back to normal now. Hope your DP has also improved. I had my second dose two days ago and no pins and needles/headache etc. this time. Just a minor achy arm like I have with flu jab.
RoseLilyDaisy · 21/06/2021 16:27

I also experienced pins and needles and a numbness to my feet, legs, buttocks and hands after having the Astrazeneca jab. I have been experiencing this since April 17th and have had no treatment nor diagnosis. I cannot get to see my GP, Astrazeneca medical officer did not help, and at A & E because I could still feel my legs they did not do anything. This is making me very depressed as it has not got better and no one seems to be able to help me. I will probably end up paying for a private neurologist in the end but feel that there should be more aftercare support for those who have experienced severe adverse effects.

everybodysang · 21/06/2021 16:57

I had the jab on Saturday and had pins and needles in my fingers and toes yesterday, and a little in my fingers today. It's a very weird feeling.

Tittlemouse1212 · 28/06/2021 10:31

@RoseLilyDaisy i have had pins and needles/tingling and in the last few weeks muscle twitching too since first AZ jab. GP has just said it's new and they don't know what's going on. I'm due second in a week and not sure what to do. Have you had second dose?
