Ok, so title is a bit goady but hear me out! I had covid last year. Ill but not too bad. This week ive had vaccine and im worse than with covid.
So.....
If vaccinated i can still transmit to others therefore not protect others.
If vaccinated i am protecting myself from covid. True but given i had it the risk of having again is low. If i did get it again then surely id get it milder having had it previously.
So... What was/is the point? Suppose I'm writing this as I'm feeling sorry for myself as i feel so rubbish post vaccine!

As a reference point the potential "Covid Passport" proposed by the Government as well as the entry requirements from many countries are either:
Proof of vaccination
Proof of positive antibodies
A negative Covid test on the way in and on the way out

On this basis a positive antibody test would seem to be on a similar level to vaccination.
By all means have a vaccination if you want but I don't think you will get much benefit from it over that of natural antibodies.

The message we are getting is that we aren’t safe until everybody is safe.

It has been tearing through the younger age groups who are more likely to be mixing with others either through work or social circles.

Until they are vaccinated we won’t see the benefit.

Why are we still testing the university students instead of vaccinating? Do they not have on campus doctors to do this? Would save a lot of money and missed days in quarantine

@ChequerBoard

"Great that you 'know' this and can share your wisdom with us all - it will save the millions of pounds that is currently being spent on actual scientific studies to work this out, you know properly.

FFS 🤦‍♀️"

So why would the proposed Covid passport or various countries entry requirements place an equivalence on proof of a Covid vaccine or proof of Children vid antibodies?

The often quoted rationale for having a vaccination even if you've already got antibodies is that it is still too early to know how long natural antibodies last for. But the same argument could be used for the vaccine in that it is still too early to for how long it will provide protection.

This is no challenging scientific wisdom but rather just basic logic.

What I’m suspicious of is the insistence from this government & its scientific partners that the vax will provide ‘superior protection’ to naturally acquired immunity.

Do they actually know this to be the case?

Seems to me they are casting doubt/spouting BS purely to make administration of the vaccine easier in across the board fashion?

Northernsoulgirl45 · 13/04/2021 00:25

We do know that NHS has reported "A&E being swamped with side effects from vax
@VenusTiger this appears to be because everyone with a headache thinks they have a blood clot.

VenusTiger · 13/04/2021 00:42

@Northernsoulgirl45 I would think that's fair enough wouldn't you!!! I have friends who suffered migraines for weeks and were bed ridden and contacted their GP - they were lucky to get a telephone appointment - my DH had 3 failed attempts at a telephone appt in January and he gave up in the end. You wouldn't take your chances considering never having suffered migraines before.

@BluebellsGreenbells

With respect, you're talking absolute rubbish. The data tells us who is at risk and it is not young and healthy teens.

I think the true test of these vaccines will be evident this autumn/winter when viruses are more likely to spread faster. The Pfizer / moderna 13 wk trial does not sound long enough, nor does it give much detail on the people who took part and conditions of the trial. I wonder if there are any detailed description/stats of any trials?

@MummyPop00 “What I’m suspicious of is the insistence from this government & its scientific partners that the vax will provide ‘superior protection’ to naturally acquired immunity.

No they don’t.

And we don’t have reason to suppose the vaccine will provide better protection than natural immunity. Take measles, for example. Natural immunity to measles acquired through infection is total and lifelong, to the point where a woman’s newborn baby will be protected by her measles antibodies.

A measles vaccination will not confer this advantage, and in some of the population it will not work at all, and we also know that it can wear off too.
