What do we think about social distancing coming May 17th?

And staying overnight in people's homes?
This would be for England as I'm aware that other nations have different rules.
I know no one can predict at all but I've tried staying off the covid topic for a while plus only look at main headlines and don't follow all the deep numbers etc... as it was starting to affect my mental health.

I'm really happy to see that the next step is happening tomorrow. And I wondered do people think we'll be able to stop distancing at that point?

@lunar1

Our school has had the lowest sickness record over the autumn term this school year. It's massively improved my youngest sons health who's asthma gets worse with every cough and cold.

I'd like to normalise not sending children or adults who are actively sick into school and work.

I'm also voting for keeping the 2m gap in the supermarket queue, I have no need to feel people breathing on my neck while shopping, I hated that long before Covid!

And what's that doing for children's immune systems long term?

It can't be a good thing. I agree with staying home when it's clearly a really bad cold, mainly so the person feeling poorly can get well! But just a sniff/minor cough?

It's a normal thing, for colds to spread? What will happen to our immune systems if we aren't exposed to stuff?

I don't like crowds and I don't like people invading my space so am quite happy for social distancing to continue.

A pp mentioned keeping the 2m gap in supermarket queues, it would also be great if people didn't come and stand 2cm from you on a station platform.

I agree with being treated like a health hazard though - there are people in my town who still seem really anxious (and they definitely look old enough to have been vaccinated at least once) and want about 20m distance, not just 2! It is a bit disconcerting when they wait miles away for you to get through a wide bit of path (outside).

I'm not sure how much repeated exposure to colds helps your immune system - I get a couple of colds minimum every single year teaching in school (except the past year) so it's not as if my immune system is better at not catching them.

I'd like to see social distancing and face covering continue until everyone has been offered the vaccine, at least in shops, medical settings and on public transport.

@Mistressinthetulips I've no idea on the colds thing but it surely can't be good for children's immune systems? I'm not medical or scientific though no idea, maybe no difference for adults but surely affects children?
