Are you excited or nervous?

What do you think it will be like?

My DD works in a ( non essential) shop They’re dreading it.

DinosaurDiana · 11/04/2021 10:49

I won’t be shopping for a couple of weeks, so that’s one less to worry about 🤣

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 11/04/2021 10:50

I go bak to work on Tuesday in a very close contact client facing indoor environment.

All ppe in place and sanitisation etc but still feeling a little nervous about it

Crimeismymiddlename · 11/04/2021 11:04

I feel fine, will be nice to earn my full pay and get back to normal. More worried about solving issues that predate the pandemic if anything. I think the team feel fine as well. We are well prepared.

Which part are they dreading?
McCheney73 · 11/04/2021 13:58

Can't wait same as all my colleagues.

Ridiculous we've been shut so long whilst so many other so called essential shops have been open.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 11/04/2021 14:13

I think its really important that people do venture out and support their local high street shops, high street retail was already In trouble before the pandemic due to online shopping so its going to be even harder to trade in these more uncertain times. Support your high street and keep people in jobs.

Why dreading it? Are they just a really bad employer?

Sadiq Khan goes on about " revenge spending" here. Personally hes out of touch. I know people who are on an economy boycott. Not all protests happen on the street or involve a march. So it may not be as bad as you think it is.

They are out of touch at every level. I have no pent up spending, I have shopped online and got the things I needed. The amount of people in my street who have deliveries daily is incredible.

I sorry but that is the old way and our behaviours have changed.

WHY would I want to wear a mask, have to sanitise my hands over and over, be checked over by staff, be watched by covid marshals I am wearing my mask, and not be able to try things on. No thanks. You can order online from independents and do it that way,

MercyBooth · 11/04/2021 19:15

The best bit is how he wants to encourage women to move out of minimum wage jobs. And on to higher paid ones. Great. Nothing wrong with that but someone has to do those minimum wage jobs so they will always need to be filled so the wage needs to be higher. Especially with London rents

MercyBooth · 11/04/2021 19:16

@Uriahpeep I just cant face it. Id rather walk around in rags. I have a hair appointment this week but i cant face clothes shopping.

Talking to friends and work colleagues this describes the vast majority of us. A few are excited to visit shops again, but there's no huge demand for items. Anything we've wanted during lockdown has been purchased online.

VerityWibbleWobble · 11/04/2021 19:28

I feel fine about it, excited almost. I've done it before so I know what to expect about vile customers taking it out on us.

I feel the opposite, have only ordered a couple of essential things online, and can't wait to get back into shops again. Especially clothes shops.
megletthesecond · 11/04/2021 19:44

One of my colleague's also works in Primark. She is very relieved she isn't in there for a few days.

PlantDoctor · 11/04/2021 20:01

I am avoiding town where possible for the next few weeks just because I don't want to have the hassle of queuing and crowds!

Apple40 · 11/04/2021 23:12

I won’t be going any where near the shops for a while yet, as have no interested in having to queue all the time to get in, not allowed to try anything on etc. I will just carry on ordering online where I can then try on and return back to them. Lockdowns and non essential shops shut has really shown me how I do not need to just buy stuff because Iam bored etc. , and I don’t need to go out for tea and cake as can make it all at home cheaper

HandsIntoTheFire · 11/04/2021 23:17

Clothes shopping is crap and difficult when you can’t try the clothes on. It’s not enjoyable at all.

I read that many have cash to splash but many do not.most people i know are a lot worse off during all this and dont have large sums to boost the economy etc or choose to be frugal and save for the next round if it happens....i may go to the shops in a week or so but really dont need or want anything new...have enjoyed finding items not work for years and adapting them or altering them etc...realised how little i need really.

pixie09 · 12/04/2021 00:31

@MercyBooth agree. I am in no rush to go shopping especially when they keep stupid masks and social distancing in place. I will only support businesses that do NOT comply with the gov narrative.

But currently it is mandatory to have marks and social distancing in shops. A shop which doesn't comply would be closed down, so even if they don't agree with it, they have to go along with it. Where are you young to find a shop to support which didn't have these measures?
