I had cluster headaches after AZ vaccine

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 07/04/2021 18:15

WWYD?
I had my first vaccine in jan. I got a headache immediately but was OK after paracetamol. 2 weeks later I got a migraine which turned into 9 days of cluster headaches. Half way through i was so dizzy that I couldn't even crawl on the floor and I threw up. I have had migraines but not for several years. I spoke to the GP who gave me a prescription for migraine relief and advised soluble aspirin every day which I've been taking
The headaches/dizziness gradually improved. I have an appt for my second jab on Monday but I am now worried about the neuro symptoms

Well I described them to her so that's what I'll take no matter how much you dig in you remain an Internet random and not a medical practitioner

If your GP thought you had cluster headaches and gave you aspirin and migraine tablets you need to be changing GP as these aren’t treatments for a cluster headache. So either that’s not what they said - or they are a shit practioner.

Here you go www.nhs.uk/conditions/cluster-headaches/

SteveArnottsbeadyeyes · 11/04/2021 13:22

And if you wonder why I’m having a go it’s because I read your title and it scared the shit out of me - as cluster headaches at a certain level are basically a disability.

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 11/04/2021 13:24

She told me to try aspirin and prescribed something. It wasn't my usual migraine relief bit you can get lost if you think I'm going to tell you any more of my consultation or prescription
I assume she diagnosed given my presentation
I don't start this thread for diagnosis so thanks but I don't want your help

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 11/04/2021 13:25

Your fear is your problem not mine

SteveArnottsbeadyeyes · 11/04/2021 13:27

Ok - so your GP is incompetent. Fine.
But don’t go bandying about that the vaccine gave you a serious medical condition when it’s patently not the case.

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 11/04/2021 13:29

You are reading what you want into what I posted
I will post what I want. Who the hell do you think you are telling people what they can post
Stay off social media if it is so troublesome for you

Literally your thread title is AZ gave me cluster headaches”

If you had any idea how serious cluster headaches are (which you really obviously don’t) you’d get why. It’s like saying “it gave me Diabetes or epilepsy”.
As an NHS worker I would have hoped you know a bit better tbh.

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 11/04/2021 13:37

Not that is gave me. Perhaps your headaches have impacted comprehension
You are just irritating now so I won't be engaging with you any more

I’ve just read the link about cluster headaches and they sound totally debilitating and unlike what you have described OP. I think all of the bad press around AZ is triggering people’s’ anxiety unfortunately:

DeadButDelicious · 11/04/2021 13:40

As a cluster headache sufferer myself I have to say that what you are describing is not CH. what you have is a recurring headache.

I would have to agree. My husband suffers from cluster headaches, which are a recognised neurological disorder and are immensely painful, he describes it as like being stabbed in the eye with an ice pick.

They do not respond to 'regular' pain relief such as paracetamol, codeine or ibuprofen, if anything they make it worse in his experience, he has to take sumatriptan at the very onset of a headache as it's the only thing that works.

Ashleighz88 · 11/04/2021 13:48

@TwoBreakingIntoOne you are entitled to describe what a qualified GP has told you. Ignore these internet trolls, they are such know it's all's, they did not experience what you did and cannot diagnose you 🤣

DeadButDelicious · 11/04/2021 14:03

Cluster headaches are a specific, debilitating, neurological disorder. It's not 'trolling' to point out to the OP that what she describes does not marry up with what cluster headaches actually are.

Thread titles like this could be very upsetting for actual sufferers and their families. I've watched my husband cry while he begged me to knock him out the pain is that bad. I wouldn't wish this condition on my worst enemy.

I suffer with hemiplegic migraines and cluster headaches
They are absolutely hideous

SteveArnottsbeadyeyes · 11/04/2021 14:14

@DeadButDelicious same - My husband has quite literally tried to knock himself out when having a cluster headache. I find it thoroughly distasteful that OP is ignoring everyone who actually has suffered or knows someone who suffers with them.

Its a life changing illness and a serious one.

SteveArnottsbeadyeyes · 11/04/2021 14:23

Perhaps your headaches have impacted comprehension
Firstly it’s not me who suffers but DH which I’ve stated a few times, and secondly this really shows that you don’t understand what they are. Or do you often mock people with serious medical conditions?

It's just awful, watching someone you love in that much pain and you can't do anything to help them. Sad

StellaAndCrow · 11/04/2021 15:13

Hi, I had similar to you after first vaccine - headache/nausea/dizziness the following week, and also huge swelling around vaccination site. So I was a bit worried about second dose (mainly as to whether I'd need to take more sick leave). I had the second dose about two weeks ago, and was actually fine with no side effects at all. This was Astra Zeneca.

StellaAndCrow · 11/04/2021 15:14

Cluster headaches can vary in severity.

StellaAndCrow · 11/04/2021 15:15

Just mentioning that as it could be alarming for anyone with cluster headaches to get the impression that it's always a debilitating neurological disorder - it can just be occasional clusters of unpleasant sharp headaches.

Ashleighz88 · 11/04/2021 15:22

@StellaAndCrow exactly this.

Nobody is taking away the fact they can be severe, but that does not mean they cannot impact other people in a less severe way. It's like saying "don't complain about curable cancer when people have terminal cancer" ridiculous. The poster is quoting the qualified GP advice.

SteveArnottsbeadyeyes · 11/04/2021 16:15

Cluster headaches don’t vary in severity - they vary in pattern - they are charactisered by the level of pain!
Again for those giving armchair advice please see the link above.

SteveArnottsbeadyeyes · 11/04/2021 16:19

For those who really don’t know what a cluster headache is see this link ouchuk.org/

Exactly this. There is a massive difference between 'clusters of sharp headaches' and cluster headaches, which is a recognised neurological disorder. One that is not taken anywhere near as seriously as it should be. People hear the word 'headache' and immediately think it's like a migraine. It's not.
JimmyGrimble · 11/04/2021 18:49

Exactly @SteveArnottsbeadyeyes CH is a very specific neurological pain condition and not for nothing is it sometimes called ‘suicide headache’. Sufferers generally take about 10 years to be accurately diagnosed and then you get the consultants arguing with gps over management and vice versa. Your husband’s description is very apt. Always the same side, always the same eye, always the same inescapable pain. My best wishes to a fellow sufferer. CH is absolutely not just a persistent recurring headache and it really is not what the OP is describing. It’s also not migraine. It’s much much more painful.
