I had cluster headaches after AZ vaccine

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 07/04/2021 18:15

WWYD?
I had my first vaccine in jan. I got a headache immediately but was OK after paracetamol. 2 weeks later I got a migraine which turned into 9 days of cluster headaches. Half way through i was so dizzy that I couldn't even crawl on the floor and I threw up. I have had migraines but not for several years. I spoke to the GP who gave me a prescription for migraine relief and advised soluble aspirin every day which I've been taking
The headaches/dizziness gradually improved. I have an appt for my second jab on Monday but I am now worried about the neuro symptoms

@Ashleighz88 mine started in the morning too (morning bath). No real treatment, I couldn't make it into the drs but he diagnosed it over the phone, had anti sickness tablets, although I remember they made me really tired. I just had to wait it out really.

Popfan · 09/04/2021 15:17

There wasnt another massive episode but then just the ongoing dizziness and nausea, like feeling travel sick all the time, even when lying down.

Terracotta9 · 09/04/2021 15:21

It’s not correct that side effects happen with the same time course as development of immunity. It takes weeks for immunity to develop, but most of the side effects last less than a week.

If the adverse reaction is caused by changes to the immune system, as in the cases of CVST bloodclots with AZ which appears to be an autoimmune reaction - then it is reasonable to expect this window for adverse reactions may also overlap with the window for building immunity.

And we have very little data on whether second doses present the same risks as far fewer people have received them.

meecrowahvay · 09/04/2021 15:26

@Ashleighz88 I had quite severe dizziness after the vaccine too - I had AZ and it was listed as a side effect (I only checked on day 4 when I clicked it could be related; thought I had labrynthitis or similar). Started felt lightheaded after the vaccination and gradually more dizzy. By kids bed time I couldn't get off the sofa. Lasted for three days and then very intermittent for another couple.

Popfan · 09/04/2021 15:42

I doubt 2 weeks on the dizziness has anything to do with the vaccine.

Popfan · 09/04/2021 15:43

Which was when @Ashleighz88 's mum had the dizzy spell

MummyPop00 · 09/04/2021 16:00

@Llh1979

‘Now I keep getting low level headaches not enough for painkillers’

That’s my position, 5 weeks after 1st AZ jab. Would have normally brushed it off, but in view of the recent developments & the fact the last time I had a full blood count my platelets were at the lower end of normal, I’m taking no chances so have yellow carded & waiting on a response in how to proceed regarding a second AZ jab from the GP.

Truth be told, I’m a little miffed about the morality police pushing the vaccine for everybody. I caught Covid early on (March 2020) so agonised over having the jab at all or just relying on immunity through infection until it is confirmed natural immunity doesn’t last in the vast majority. So, I took a needless risk as things stand at the moment I think.

IpanemaChic · 09/04/2021 16:09

I’m very provaccine. Had the AZ jab 12 days ago, I was very nauseous the first week, then it went away but today I’m so nauseous again with a pressure headache. Feeling a bit Sad about it all.

Vickles20 · 09/04/2021 16:18

IpanemaChic
I had the AS jab 11 days ago. Had a bad pressure headache yesterday and nausea. Paracetamol took the edge off. But even took an aspirin just in case. Haven’t since. Feel better today. But I never get headaches. And haven’t felt nausea like that since I was pregnant.

Vickles20 · 09/04/2021 16:19

I’m just making sure I’m drinking plenty of water. I’m in the exercise bike each day for 20 mins and go for a walk.

Llh1979 · 09/04/2021 17:12

@MummyPop00
I've an appointment with the gp next week so going to speak to him about it as I had my bloods done in January so will also get him to check my platelets from those results
I really wanted my vaccine as I had covid in January 2020 and never ever want it again
My ears feel a little strange aswell like I have water in them but I dont
I'm hoping this all passes as yes the blood clots are extremely rare but more and more are getting the headaches
Hope your feeling better soon

Ashleighz88 · 09/04/2021 21:56

@MummyPop00 I totally agree. You aren't allowed an opinion or to explain side effects without being told it's nothing to do with the vaccine. People know what is normal for them and and what isn't, and reporting side effects helps the understanding of it. People just don't want a bad word said on the vaccine.

boogiebogie · 09/04/2021 22:20

Hope everyone feels better soon and is reporting their side effects.

IpanemaChic · 10/04/2021 10:23

Vickes20 thank you, I did take paracetamol which helped and I feel bit better today. You’re right it does feel like pregnancy nausea.

Going to take the dog out in a bit for some fresh air.

Hope everyone feels better soon.

JimmyGrimble · 11/04/2021 02:05

As a cluster headache sufferer myself I have to say that what you are describing is not CH. what you have is a recurring headache.

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 11/04/2021 09:21

Well the GP diagnosed it as a cluster headache so I'll take her advice over yours

For anyone suffering cluster headaches, I really feel for you. Both my DH and my cousin suffer from these and the pain is excruciating for around 30 minutes to an hour. My DH usually knows when one is coming on, so can take medication which helps with the severity of the headache. My cousin is on daily medication for hers which seems to control them.

Wherediditgo · 11/04/2021 09:58

The weird thing is, some of these symptoms have been experience by me and DH the last few weeks.
Only catch is, neither of us have been vaccinated.
Virus, perhaps?

Xenia · 11/04/2021 10:34

Make sure you complete a yellow card so the state knows your side effects. coronavirus-yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/ This is not an anti vax thing - it is what the NHS wants you to do.

(I have chosen not to have the vaccine so far as it is not right for me)

SteveArnottsbeadyeyes · 11/04/2021 10:38

That is NOT a cluster headache. My husband suffers with cluster headaches and they are very different to what you describe (and anyone with one will tell you - they cannot be treated with migraine tablets - they don’t work).

SteveArnottsbeadyeyes · 11/04/2021 10:48

@JimmyGrimble so sorry you suffer with this. My DH does too and it’s awful. Currently he’s had a phase that has lasted since Christmas. Thankfully he now has the injections which really seem to help - for years he just had to suffer them - and I’ve seen him punch his own eye to try and get rid of the pain.

Vickles20 · 11/04/2021 10:51

Yes. Did the yellow card.

bookworm1632 · 11/04/2021 10:56

Headaches are listed as a very common side effect with lots of vaccines

There's a reason for that.

Headaches are common. People have a jab, then a headache - it gets reported. Headaches go down on the sheet. Same with every other drug (find one that DOESN'T list headaches as a side effect!)
They don't bother looking for cause effect with mild symptoms - if it gets reported, it gets listed - may have nothing to do with the jab.

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 11/04/2021 12:42

I'll give all the experts on here my GPs number and you can take it up with herHmm
Seriously why does an Internet random think they know more than a GP

OP posts:
SteveArnottsbeadyeyes · 11/04/2021 13:09

My husband suffers with cluster headaches and we’ve encountered plenty of GP’s who don’t actually understand what they are.
Trust me - what you describe isn’t a cluster headache and suggesting that a vaccine can trigger them is, quite frankly ridiculous.

Comparing a migraine to a cluster headache is a bit like when someone who compares feeling a bit down to clinical depression.

They are nicknamed suicide headaches for a reason.
