I've been avoiding the news for so long but looked today hoping the latest AZ news would be reassuring and that the vaccine rollout would carry on. I simply can't take the stress of this anymore. Its the ups and downs all the time that are killing me. Just when you begin to think this may soon be over another headline just blows that out of the water. The news today is going to put people off (all ages) having the vaccine whether that's the first or second dose. This fucking pandemic is never going to end. I can't deal with this life anymore. There is no joy. Just endless bad news.

@NewMum0305

I’m 34 and will be having my second AstraZeneca jab as soon as I can.

I’ve been on the Pill half my life - seems silly to start panicking about minuscule risks of blood clots now...!

Exactly!! I'm really very surprised that this is seen as an issue given all the risks associated with contraceptives and HRT etc that most of us are taking quite happily.

Although maybe this is another one of those "if men had to..." examples (she said flippantly).

More seriously, I know several people in their 30s and 40s (I'm mid 30s) who caught covid and now either have long covid (my husband) or long term health issues including (terrifyingly) heart failure. I'd take the AZ vaccine every week for the next year if I had to.

RowanAlong · 07/04/2021 17:23

I’m having my second AZ dose...

Frequentflier · 07/04/2021 17:26

I will be racing for my second dose. I am glad under 30s will be offered another vaccine and if anything, this has increased my confidence that corrections will be made if needed.

ilovebagpuss · 07/04/2021 17:34

I totally understand where you are coming from, I watched the news last night all about the Brazil situation and the variant there killing many more young people.
I decided I won’t watch it again and just concentrate on what we can deal with here and now this week and take a quick snapshot of news each day.
I’m having my second vaccine AZ on Saturday and as I’m 45 and work in care and have had Covid twice I’m not really bothered about the small risk.
It’s wise to put a hold on the under 30’s and other vaccines can be used for them.
It will be all right.

Heartofglass12345 · 07/04/2021 17:43

I'll be having mine

Heartofglass12345 · 07/04/2021 17:44

2nd dose that is, have had the 1st one

Torvean · 07/04/2021 17:46

By the end of this month there will be 4 licenced drugs. I think that's a light at the end of the tunnel.

pintsizeprincess · 07/04/2021 17:52

I'm due my 2nd dose in May and will be having it. To me the benefits far outweigh the risks.

Chocoqueen · 07/04/2021 17:54

It might put some off but not all. A relative of mine had the AZ vaccine a few weeks ago, then did actually have a blood clot (dvt) just as all the news broke. The hospital did tests and said the clot wasn't related to the vaccine and just a coincidence.

They're planning on having the second dose as planned (as advised by the doctors)

Firefliess · 07/04/2021 17:57

Having worked out that I'm just as likely to die in a road accident in the fortnight following my vaccine as I am from a blood clot (and a lot more likely to die from Covid than either of these) I'll be turning up for my second dose. DSD (23)'s only concern about today's news is whether it'll mean they take longer to get to her.

Worth limiting your news consumption or sticking to the less sensational sites if you're getting very stressed by it. Try unfollowing anyone on social media who tends to post alarmist links that frighten you.

zafferana · 07/04/2021 17:59

It doesn't put me off. The chances of dying of Covid are 1/1000, the risk from the AZ vaccine are 1/600,000. I may not be much good at maths, but even I can weight that one up. HTH.

zafferana · 07/04/2021 18:00

That's for 40-50 year olds btw (risks from Covid are less for younger people).

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/04/2021 18:03

The risks of the specific clot( which is in the sinus) are minute compared to the doses given.. and also the risks of contracting Covid are way higher
There is a risk with every medication
What about the Contraceptive Pill?
There are known risks with them, higher than the vaccine
There are Pros and cons in everything... even crossing the road
In my opinion they are giving too much information, and the scaremongering is then caused by the media
Perhaps you'd be reassured by the science, rather than listen to the hysteria?

Livpool · 07/04/2021 18:08

I will be getting my second jab - no doubt about it

Sarahtrue11 · 07/04/2021 18:17

Why is there a supply slow down? When is there ever a supply slow down? There are four different vaccines in production. It doesnt make sense

Parker231 · 07/04/2021 18:18

There is a vaccine slow down to the U.K. as every country wants their share.

JanuaryJonez · 07/04/2021 18:49

I'm surprised at your reaction OP but sorry you feel this way.

The UK is actually in a better position than most other countries re the vaccination roll out; there are other vaccines; the AZ one can be tweaked accordingly; restrictions ease massively on Monday; the weather is improving; the job market is strong etc.

Lots to be positive about! Smile

NeedWineNow · 07/04/2021 18:54

Both me and DH had the 1st dose of the AZ and will be having our second in May and June respectively. In addition I know 2 people who have had cancer who have had the AZ along with my 84 year old mum. All of us had varying side effects - tiredness or flu-like symptoms - but would sooner have that than Covid. My brother has just had a kidney removed and is chomping at the bit to get his.

Please step away from the news and some of the threads on MN - both are full of doom and gloom naysayers. We will come through this, honest.

poppycat10 · 07/04/2021 19:27

@Kimye4eva

The more people turn down their second dose the quicker I’ll get my first!
Ha ha yes maybe! Although they'll probably decide they'd rather spend resources phoning them every day to ask them to come, rather than invite the 49 year olds who actually want it Sad
HolmeH · 07/04/2021 19:34

I’m 31 & will be racing for whatever vaccine they offer me..

DamsonTrousers · 07/04/2021 19:42

I’ll be having my second AZ dose in June. I haven’t read anything that’s put me off.

2X4B523P · 07/04/2021 19:59

I have already had both doses of the Pfizer but if I hadn’t and when my turn came it was AZ I wouldn’t be put off in the slightest.

hettie · 07/04/2021 20:02

I'm female under 50 and just had my second AZ jab today...so you might be mistaken...

Timeturnerplease · 07/04/2021 20:23

I’m 34 and pregnant and would happily take any vaccine if offered. Much less risky than teaching 30 eight year olds packed tightly into an unventilated attic room every day.

I understand OP. Its the ups and downs, they are endless. I'm due my 2nd AZ next week and I'm seriously stressing. I'm 99% on board but I'm certainly going to make sure I'm well hydrated and will take a small dose of aspirin for at least 4 weeks after.

At the moment, the BBC and other news channels seem to be doing the anti vaxxers' job for them.
