Final straw....can't take this anymore

I've been avoiding the news for so long but looked today hoping the latest AZ news would be reassuring and that the vaccine rollout would carry on. I simply can't take the stress of this anymore. Its the ups and downs all the time that are killing me. Just when you begin to think this may soon be over another headline just blows that out of the water. The news today is going to put people off (all ages) having the vaccine whether that's the first or second dose. This fucking pandemic is never going to end. I can't deal with this life anymore. There is no joy. Just endless bad news.

I’ll be having my second dose too. The risk is small.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 07/04/2021 16:14

The risks associated with the AZ jab are very, very small.

I am 41 and if I were to be offered it I would take it (or any of the other approved jabs) like a shot. I am not sure how today's news will change the rollout? Those under 30 will simply be offered an alternative to the AZ jab.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 07/04/2021 16:14

I am really sad about this too.

It is awful that the vaccine has caused deaths however few. I was so excited about it. I have learned to do IM injections and was hoping to start vaccinating before long. I am just not sure how I feel about that now. Marshalling this weekend too.....

It will inevitably lead to a lower uptake and less heard immunity and therefore more covid deaths and long covid.

Astra Zenica was the hope for the world as it is not being sold for profit - what happens now to the developing countries vaccination programmes?

I have had my first AZ and will have my second but I do feel this is a major set back for the UK and the world. I think the people were speaking sense and I am glad they have spotted the potential side effect but I just wish it wasn't so. Sad

But they don't yet know that it has caused those deaths. Correlation does not equate to cause. People do suffer blood clots regardless.

Nothing is risk free, certainly no medical procedures or most medicines. Sitting on your sofa isn't risk free, driving to your vaccination centre isn't either... The risk is v v small re AZ jab.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/04/2021 16:18

I'm 30 and if I'm offered AZ I will have it. Not scared at all.

Nith · 07/04/2021 16:21

Look at the way infection and death numbers have come down. That's partly due to lockdown and use of masks, but a hefty proportion of it is vaccination. There is no reason to suppose that reduction will not continue to happen as more and more of the population is vaccinated.

HideousKinky · 07/04/2021 16:21

It is awful that the vaccine has caused deaths
This is not yet known.
correlation is not causation.

plinkplinkfizzer · 07/04/2021 16:21

My second dose is due June , I will also be there right behind the others in this thread . 😊

NewMum0305 · 07/04/2021 16:24

I’m 34 and will be having my second AstraZeneca jab as soon as I can.

I’ve been on the Pill half my life - seems silly to start panicking about minuscule risks of blood clots now...!

Tealightsandd · 07/04/2021 16:29

I'd like them to investigate the possibility of long covid being the cause of these extremely rare clots. It's known to cause clotting and it's also known to affect people who had initial mild sometimes asymptomatic covid cases.

CallmeHendricks · 07/04/2021 16:32

I wonder if those people scared off from AZ due to a minuscule risk would also refuse to take the Pill and go on a long-haul flight?

SunshineCake · 07/04/2021 16:33

You would expect me to decline but I will be there as soon as I am offered my second dose of the AZ vaccine. Some people need to calm down and look at the full situation we are in.

SunshineCake · 07/04/2021 16:35

The R rate did not go up when the kids went back to school. That's another aspect where posters need to stop scaremongering.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 07/04/2021 16:36

I agree the risk is vanishingly small and as I said, I will get my second dose. But are you suggesting that the chances are all those 19 people would have died anyway of a CVST if they hadn't had the vaccine? If that was the case then there just wouldn't be this fuss about it.

LindainLockdown · 07/04/2021 16:37

I thought the news was reassuring? Suppose much depends on your general outlook but for those of us in top priority groups awaiting the second AZ jab, I could only imagine a tiny majority would now not want it.

mrshonda · 07/04/2021 16:39

A PP was right, in that MN is not the real world. And it seems to be the same few people continually upsetting others. Please hang in there OP. It will get better. I thought the press briefing was extremely reassuring. It would be much worse if the scientists ignored everything and pressed on regardless. Everything we do, every drug we take, carries some risk, which we never even consider 99% of the time - it's just because this is so 'front and centre' at the moment that we are so acutely conscious of it.

RedcurrantPuff · 07/04/2021 16:44

@AnnaSW1

You're being over dramatic
This

Of course the pandemic will end. Look at the progress we have made! This is a glitch, that’s all. A huge number of people have had the vaccine in a very short time, if the same number of vaccines had been given causing this number of adverse events over a number of years no one would bat an eyelid.

My husband and I are in our 40s, had our first dose of AZ and will be having our second, no question.

Gothichouse40 · 07/04/2021 16:44

Kay , totally understand why you feel the way you do, it's been one b***d of a year. I am in my 50s and have had AZ vaccine, believe you me I did not make the decision lightly as I have an autoimmune condition. Yes, I was really ill with it for about the first 2 days. Its been over a week and Im making slow progress as my condition went into full flare-up. Im still very tired and some days in pain. Having said this I will go for my 2nd vaccination. I have a friend who has lost 2 family members to Covid-19 and someone else in their 30s has Long Covid. They had Covid-19 six months ago and are still battling to get out of bed some days. Like you I feel this Pandemic is never ending but you need to take each day as it comes. Your family and friends all need you. It is hard but I honestly feel we don't have much choice re the Pandemic and the vaccine gives us a chance. Ive had to curtail watching the news, it was not helping my mental attitude. The media don't care about upsetting people. They really have not shown themselves in a great light as every day seems to be more scary news, when what people need is some emotional support.

exexpat · 07/04/2021 16:44

I'm still going to get my second dose of AZ.

People who are put off by the current news on blood clots have clearly never read the warnings in the leaflets that come with any medication they have ever taken, particularly things like contraceptive pills (risk of blood clots, among other things), antibiotics (some of them are associated with increased risk of sudden cardiac death) and lots of other medications, which continue to be prescribed every day because the risks of the rare side effects are outweighed by the benefits of what the medications do for 99.9% of people. Just like the AZ vaccine.

countrygirl99 · 07/04/2021 16:48

Look at it this way - if 18m had an illness and 19 died we may possibly comment that there is a bug going round and get on with our lives without a second thought. A few months later we would have forgotten the bug.

Tealightsandd · 07/04/2021 16:52

I agree with Gothichouse40 I think some of the media have been so irresponsible. I know bad news sells but still sometimes a bit of positivity and reassurance is needed. I know it won't happen but I'd like for all journalists reporting on the vaccine to state whether they've had a vaccine and if so which one. Sort of like a declaration of interests.

Marshy86 · 07/04/2021 16:54

I'll be having my second dose, I think we're in a lot better position than other countries.

Any death is scary but when you compare the rates of blood cot deaths over covid deaths I know which one I'd rather take the risk with

MarshaBradyo · 07/04/2021 16:55

I’ll have AZ when offered but agree the backlash is tiring

Parker231 · 07/04/2021 16:57

Mn is not the real world. I don’t know anyone who has changed their mind on AZ - my second vaccine is next month. I will definitely be having it.

Whatalottachocca · 07/04/2021 16:58

Don’t read the news. It’s not actually “news” any more, it’s just hype, comment & spin. Just go about your business and carry on as you see fit.
