Early 30s eligible for vaccine through work. No conditions, had Covid a couple of months ago and recovered well. Booked for this Friday and very unsure of what to do. It seems MHRA will issue a new guidance today or tomorrow but what do I do meanwhile? Cancel and book an appointment for later this month (have no idea if it will be available)? It doesn’t make any sense to vaccinate now with AZ if I know that I’m immune already and there is a chance that this vaccine will not be used anymore for younger patients? Shall I wait for Moderna? I am at a loss.

I'd have it without question. Under 40 here. Keyworker no idea when I'll get vaccine even though I work with public everyday.

No guarantee you'll get a different jab even if you wait. Also antibodies decrease rapidly in women.

I am far more worried about the evidence out to day of the clear link between covid and depression, stroke and psychosis, then the possible miniscule risk of a blood clot (which is still not proven).

HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 07/04/2021 10:37

I would wait.

confusedfriday · 07/04/2021 10:39

@Froggie456
Thanks for your reply.
I’m worried about practical implications too.
If they stop providing AZ to younger patients, it means I’ll have to mix and match later for the second dose and will be left with a patchy vaccination record.
I have no doubts that antibodies will decrease, but I’ve got them at the moment.
I’m thinking about waiting until the official announcement is made to make my decision but don’t want to cancel last night too. It’s be easier to decide if there was an official information about the age of patients suffered from clots in the U.K... they say 30 in 18 million, but they don’t say the age and it makes me anxious.

You have to wait 90 days after having covid to get vaccinated....
If this was more than 90 days ago go ahead and have the jab , the risks are minimal.

RebeccaCloud9 · 07/04/2021 10:46

It's 28 days since covid

RebeccaCloud9 · 07/04/2021 10:53

www.ouh.nhs.uk/working-for-us/staff/covid-staff-faqs-vaccine.aspx

Above states 28 days after positive test. Gov.uk says after you have recovered from actual covid (long covid is not a contraindication)

confusedfriday · 07/04/2021 10:57

It’s 90 days in other countries from what I understand. It’s less than that for me.

Hard to understand why you wouldn't wait?

There will be no shortage of vaccines by the back end of the Summer unless further issues arise in which case ...

user1493494961 · 07/04/2021 11:02

I would think you would also have AZ for the second dose, no mixing and matching.

LilyPond2 · 07/04/2021 11:04

The number of people who catch Covid for a second time within 3 months appears to be absolutely miniscule, so I think in your case OP I would wait for at least another month to see whether further data emerges.

wasthataburp · 07/04/2021 11:05

Wait

bumbleymummy · 07/04/2021 11:08

If I had antibodies already, I wouldn’t be rushing to have the vaccine.

HeddaGarbled · 07/04/2021 11:10

Out of interest, how do you know it’s AZ that you’ll be getting? No one I know was told until they were at the vaccination centre.

confusedfriday · 07/04/2021 11:11

@HeddaGarbled
I’m not NHS, but in the open source for local NHS employees who are eligible it clearly says that this site is only doing AZ.

@user1493494961
Even if later proved not safe for younger patients?

OP posts:
SempreSuiGeneris · 07/04/2021 11:25

Germany have said those who have already had 1st dose shouldn't get 2nd if below the age cut off. Obvs this doesn't mean UK would adopt same approach but possible.

confusedfriday · 07/04/2021 11:30

@SempreSuiGeneris
Makes sense

TheWhalrus · 07/04/2021 11:32

I wouldn't choose to delay vaccination on the expectation that you'll get a different one next time. That probably won't happen, unless AZ is banned altogether for your age group.

I would take the jab now - the trial data don't indicate a big risk of blood clotting events (ie in >15,000 participants there was no notable increase in risk); the blood clotting risk (observed subsequently in real-world data from millions of individuals) is therefore very very low, and possibly not helped by media reports.

wasthataburp · 07/04/2021 11:32

I would really wait if I were you. You have antibodies already and you are young. There's no need for you to be rushing out to get one.

HolmeH · 07/04/2021 12:16

@confusedfriday - have you tested yourself for antibodies? I had covid back in early December. Not very nice for 10 days, hated loosing my taste & smell, that was scary but I recovered quickly after that. I was tested for antibodies in late January (1.5 months later) & none were detected 😱 They re-tested me to double check & nope. Do not assume you have antibodies 🙈🤷🏼‍♀️

sylbunny · 07/04/2021 12:22

Im eligible due to group 6 but I'm due to give birth in a few weeks so I have to wait. I actually had covid a few weeks ago so likely have antibodies as well. I will be booking my jab while I am in labour if I can!

confusedfriday · 07/04/2021 13:52

@sylbunny
I want to be vaccinated as well but I feel like it’s a terrible mistake to have a jab this Friday as very soon this vaccine won’t be recommended for people like me anymore. I don’t know what I’m going to do but I’m waiting for a briefing at 3 pm today and what they say.

OP posts:
confusedfriday · 07/04/2021 13:54

@HolmeH
I have, but a month ago.

harridan50 · 07/04/2021 13:55

There is a briefing at 3pm bbc1 regarding the vaccine today

confusedfriday · 07/04/2021 13:56

@harridan50
Waiting impatiently for this one. Hope it’ll help me to make a decision.
