AstraZeneca - yes or no?

Our local pharmacy is offering the AstraZeneca vaccine. I thought I would jump at the chance to be vaccinated but somehow, I don't feel comfortable about this brand. Am I being silky?

The EU historically goes very very anti risk in all their policies. It gets really annoying when you work in agriculture as it takes ages for them then to reverse out of weird policies aimed at zero risk.

*Disclaimer I was/am a remoaner, its fine to have a nuanced non extreme, non black and white views on things (mainly memo to UK media)

I’d like to see those slides for female va male. From what I can gather from the EMA paper the reaction seems to be similar to heparin-induced-thrombocytopenia, which affects women twice as much as men. And yet women seem to be less at risk from COVID than men (according to the qcovid calculator anyway).

So should the policy be based on sex as well as age (ie women under 50, men under 30?)

Only going on what he said yesterday, but it seemed that more women have had the AZ jab, but the data suggests that if both sexes had had equal amounts then the numbers would be similar.

No I get that, I’m saying that women are more at risk of heparin-induced-thrombocytopenia in general (not relating to this vaccine) - apparently the risk is 2 x that of men. When they are given heparin post surgery etc

And women are less at risk from COVID than men (based on death rates anyway.

So for women the risk/benefit ratio may be different - the COVID risk may be lower and the clot risk may be higher if these clots are similar to those triggered by heparin

I was very dubious about having the vaccine and when it was offered to me I was still dubious but ultimately I realised the risks with Covid are much greater than any vax risk.

@Pyewackect

Take your chance with Covid then : it’s your funeral !
Why, just why!
Roonerspismed · 09/04/2021 06:37

-it’s your funeral”

Utterly brilliant. Some people need to realise how laughable they sound

Please check current death rates for under 50s.

Have people lost their minds?!
