28 and had the Oxford jab..

LibbyL92 · 05/04/2021 20:30

Hey all.

I’m in a complete panic. A few weeks ago I had the Oxford jab through work. I’m 28 and no underlying conditions.

I’ve just seen on the MailOnline that regulators will consider tomorrow wether or not to stop the jab for under 30s...

At the point I’m almost besides myself with worry. I suffer with health anxiety enough as it is and this situation has really rocked the boat.

I had the jab on the 17th of March (I’m hoping if anything bad was to happen it would of happened by now)

But this is really awful and I can’t quite believe this is happening.

Anyone else under 30 worried? Or should I be worried?

I’m sure there’s a thread on this so I apologise but I’m really scared.

I think you are overall worrying. The chances of an issue are minuscule. Covid is a much bigger issue even for your age.

Worry

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 20:34

What are you worried about? Not having the second jab? Or a delayed reaction to the first?
Can you find any better information? The Mail online can be a bit sensationalist to say the least.

MadisonAvenue · 05/04/2021 20:39

I can only find that actual story on the Mail Online, but it does concern me that if this is true it’ll prevent my 20 year old CEV son from having his second vaccination.
He had his first on Feb 6th so is due his second before the end of the month.

This is quite a helpful summary of the evidence so far.

Kindly, I think your main problem here is anxiety, not the possibility of a side effect from the vaccine. Have you sought help for your health anxiety? It's understandable if it has ramped up over the past year.

LibbyL92 · 05/04/2021 20:41

@Sparklingbrook MailOnline was just one article ( I know I’m annoyed with myself for even given them my time)

More worried about a delayed reaction to the first or even an issue with having the second and falling ill.

I know the press really blow things up. But it’s still a worry... especially when I’ve already been injected with it.

Sounds like a chat with your GP will be the way to go. Get some proper advice/reassurance.

LibbyL92 · 05/04/2021 20:46

@diddlediddle thank you for posting the link.
I think you’re right. Things are completely heightened at the moment.

DdraigGoch · 05/04/2021 20:47

I'm 26, had my first jab less than a week ago. I'm not worried.

LibbyL92 · 05/04/2021 20:47

@Sparklingbrook Will do! Thank you :)

LibbyL92 · 05/04/2021 20:48

@DdraigGoch perfect! I need to just relax.

The press are bloody awful. Scaremongering at its finest.

@LibbyL92
There are several other almost identical posts on mn at the moment of people with heightened anxiety posting about this issue. Every new thread potentially aids the anxious into some sort of overdrive. It's not helpful.
Try not to worry .
What would be helpful is to discuss your anxieties with your gp.

Is it the potential blood clotting reactions that you concerned about about? Have you ever taken the pill? Have you ever been on an aeroplane? Have you ever given birth? All those activities carry a risk of clotting.

There is no evidence that there are a greater number of blood clotting cases within the vaccinated population compared to the unvaccinated.

LibbyL92 · 05/04/2021 20:56

@elaboratethen Thank you. It makes sense. Apologise for the extra thread, I’ll happily try and delete/close I’m very new to this forum so it’s all a learning curve.

OP posts:
elaboratethen · 05/04/2021 20:59

@LibbyL92 don't read the other posts. Wait until the MHRA make a further statement ( which is likely to state all is ok).
And speak to your gp. My friend is suffering from complicated blood clots as a result of Covid. Getting the vaccine is your best protection

confuseddotcom090 · 05/04/2021 21:02

I do wish people would stop equating this to regular thrombosis seen with the pill or flying on a plane. It's not. It's very different. It's prothrombotic immune thrombocytopenia, which means clots combined with low platelets. Really bad combo.

LibbyL92 · 05/04/2021 21:03

@elaboratethen Sorry to hear about your friend.
I’ll definitely have a chat with my GP. Might call them tomorrow.

I’ve felt fine since having the vaccine which should tell me what I want to hear anyway. It is thought provoking though.

Thank you for replying :)

OP posts:
elaboratethen · 05/04/2021 21:06

It's a different type of clot, however it's still statistically insignificant. Not worth making the OP more anxious.

bubblebath62636 · 05/04/2021 21:07

For the love of god don't believe anything the Daily Fail says!

LibbyL92 · 05/04/2021 21:10

@bubblebath62636 I know, I know! I saw and panicked. I’m annoyed with myself but here I am 🙈

OP posts:
bubblebath62636 · 05/04/2021 21:15

I know how health anxiety feels op Flowers

Just think of countries in which there are no vaccines and children are dying from flu etc.

LibbyL92 · 05/04/2021 21:18

@bubblebath62636

Thank you :)
And I know, you’re so right.
I think I just need to stop reading and scaring myself. It’s an awful cycle.

BasiliskStare · 05/04/2021 21:23

@LibbyL92 - my husband is sensible , reads things & understands probability . He has had the Oxford vaccine and intends to get the second.

I think you will be fine , I understand the anxiety , but really I am sure you will be fine. I'm having mine & my son who is well under 30 will be having his when his turn comes - not worried at all

Yes if anything bad would’ve happen it would have taken place by now (first jab). Your immune system has no negative reaction to the vaccine. You’ll be fine Smile
