Have any pregnant ladies had the AstraZeneca vaccine?

I’m 33 and 6 weeks pregnant..I’m in a priority group due to asthma and was invited for my vaccine last week but I’m so unsure of what to do. My doctor said I can have the vaccine but it’s my choice and they don’t have enough data on it. I was almost going to get it because the risks of getting covid in pregnancy can be severe and I don’t want to be worrying throughout the pregnancy...but then all the news of blood clots has made me unsure as you’re at higher risk of clotting in pregnancy anyway and it made me think what else don’t they know about.

I thought maybe I would wait until after the first trimester but then I’d probably be getting novavax or moderna which we also don’t know the effects of. Moderna I would prefer as the US has been giving all pregnant women the vaccine so we’ll have more data but obviously you don’t get a choice.

Very unsure of what to do! Anyone else in the same situation? I was all for getting AstraZeneca as the vaccine platform is based on the flu jab which is used widely in pregnant women but now I’m just not sure because of this weird clotting disorder...I know it’s probably a very small chance.

I’m 7 weeks pg, no health issues bar a bmi of 28.

I’m going to have the vaccine but like you do not want the AZ jab. I don’t know if we’ll get a choice though.

MRex · 04/04/2021 11:18

I'm about as pro vaccination as you can get, but in pregnancy I'd wait for a lot more results from the USA where they're a bit more bullish and vaccinating more pregnant people than here.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 04/04/2021 11:23

I think there’s been a few threads on here about pregnant women being jabbed, might be worth a search for the others.

I’ve not been offered it while pregnant so don’t know what I’d do. But in terms of the clotting risk in general, I’ve taken the pill for years and years and accepted the risks, so I’ll accept this risk, which I believe is smaller.

bearandowl · 04/04/2021 11:34

I believe the official line is that pregnant women are not supposed to get the vaccine. Despite this some have - some with tragic consequences according to this report about an alarming increase in miscarriages www.technocracy.news/uk-miscarriages-rise-366-after-taking-covid-19-vaccine/

Lumene · 05/04/2021 07:54

That link doesn’t back up what it claims with any actual facts bear.

ForeverAintEnough12 · 05/04/2021 10:29

In Ireland they recommend getting the vaccine between weeks 14 and 33 of pregnancy so you have both doses prior to end of pregnancy and after 1st trimester. I think this guidance isn’t as it’s dangerous to get it either side but that it’s hard to then tell if something is a side effect of the vaccine.

For example, 1 in 4 women miscarry and you are unfortunately going to be one of those women who miscarry at 8 weeks. You get the vaccine two days before you are 8 weeks and then miscarry. It’s impossible to tell whether it was due to vaccine or normal miscarriage as no one knows in advance if you’re going to miscarry or not. Same with >33 weeks and premature labour.

OrraBoralis · 05/04/2021 11:25

I would also wait to get vaccinated on anything the US does. My daughter is 22 weeks now and she was told there was not enough information to actually recommend getting vaccinated. She is 28, fit, healthy with no underlying issues so she is happy to wait until my Grandbaby is born Smile She will be getting vaccinated as soon as she can after baby is born.

renniem · 10/04/2021 22:27

I had AZ at 7 weeks pregnant - I was not aware I was pregnant at the time.

My friend had the Pfizer at around 16 weeks pregnant (dose 1) and 20 weeks (dose 2).

No side effects.

Yummymummy2020 · 10/04/2021 22:38

I am a bit wary too and I’m wondering does the anti d injection impact it’s efficacy. None of my doctors seem to be able to give an answer and as I am having that I am going to wait as in the package it says no live vaccines for a period of time after it or before. I know it’s not live in terms of Covid but it does use a weakened virus as a vector and that’s what might be an issue. Apparently live vaccines don’t work as well if you have the anti d. Anyway I even emailed Astra themselves and they couldn’t answer either so I am reluctant till I know more. It may not impact it at all but it’s the fact I can’t really get an answer for sure. The last thing I want is to get it and it not work if I can wait a short time and get it then it more than likely will work unless I’m super unlucky! The leaflet says you shouldn’t get the flu vaccine close to it so that’s what made me wonder! If I was offered one of the others I would dive at it though as I am wary of catching it!

TimeQuest01 · 10/04/2021 22:46

The one thing I’ve read in the Spanish papers is that a a woman got the vaccine while pregnant and her baby was born with antibodies.

Because of their vaccination schedule though, she was likely to be in her third trimester when she got it.

Maybe don’t link to a conspiracy and pseudoscience website if you want to be taken seriously.

MissusAnthropy · 11/04/2021 05:17

Yes, I'm NHS staff and was 29 wks when I had my AZ vaccine. It was before the information came out about the blood clotting cases.

I was advised by the Obstetric consultant to have it (I'm not ECV) but the consultant had seen a lot of pregnant women extremely ill with it and she had dealt with fatalities due to the women contracting Covid. I was told there was no evidence vaccine harmed the baby whatsoever and it was like a regular flu vaccine. She referenced the U.S and Israel who have been vaccinating pregnant women for a while with no issues. I was convinced to have it because I was anxious.

Symptoms after the vaccine were flu like with achey legs (which I put down to pregnancy!) but they passed after a few days.

However, I'm 33 wks pregnant now and as the news about blood clotting disorders has trickled out slowly, I've been angry that I was convinced to have the vaccine when in fact the U.S haven't been vaccinating with AZ. I'm really anxious that the blood clotting disorders may affect the baby when born.

My second dose is booked for one week after I have my section. I won't be having it then, due to being discharged with blood thinners as standard after a section, it seems like a no brainer to me.

grandmasterstitch · 11/04/2021 05:23

I had the AZ vaccine at 30 weeks and am due the next one a few weeks post birth. The stories about blood clots don't worry me, it's so vanishingly unlikely and I taken blood thinners anyway during and post pregnancy which will reduce the risk even further. The fact that baby will have antibodies makes me feel even more comfortable with my choice

GoToSleepBabyPlease · 11/04/2021 05:28

Well, I believe the pregnancy data for coronavirus infection is that it's only more dangerous to pregnant women in the third trimester, and you can generally work from home then anyway due to the risks (depending on your job, I guess). I wouldn't get the vaccine in your shoes, I don't think.

1stevernamechange · 11/04/2021 06:25

We simply don’t know enough about it, so the current advice is to only have the vaccine if you work in an area where you are exposed to a high number of positive COVID infections, i.e, ICU.

Fispi · 11/04/2021 08:18

I had my first dose around 16-18 weeks because of my risk at work. I'll be having my second dose. The risk of rare, specific blood clots is extremely low.

Cerml · 30/05/2021 19:11

Hi! @renniem Did you end up getting your 2nd dose yet? I got my 1st AZ dose in April and I'm due for my 2nd dose next week but I've become pregnant in between doses (I'm only 5 weeks). I have no idea if I should go get my 2nd dose, I'll be talking to my GP obviously but keen to hear others who have gone through it with AZ specifically.

moregarlic · 30/05/2021 19:22

Given prior to this situation they wouldn’t even let pregnant women take a lemsip, I’d be asking a lot of questions.

Rpblc09 · 04/07/2021 17:25

Already had my AZ when I found out that I am 6 weeks pregnant. I already talked to my OB and we are praying that it doesnt affect my baby. Since they dont really advise to take any vaccination during pregnancy.

Eve30 · 11/07/2021 11:30

I also have my first AZ before conceiving and was due my second at 8+5 weeks. I chose not to have it during my first trimester and am undecided as to whether to get it once I (hopefully) get past 12 weeks. I think I’m going to see what the covid case numbers are like but with how things are going and with all rules ending next week I feel like cases will be really high and therefore so will the risk of catching it so may opt to have my second dose. It’s insanely hard to know what to do for the best as I feel like there is so little evidence to back up the guidance. I change my mind about it every single day!! 😭

TakeYourFinalPosition · 11/07/2021 11:45

Yep, both doses. Absolutely fine, have seen baby since and all is as planned.

I’d have preferred Pfizer but I’d had the first dose of AZ before I was pregnant, and before it wasn’t offered to 30 year olds; so I had no choice.

I’m glad I did it. It’s a personal call but a midwife at the vaccination clinic was really reassuring and everything seems fine.

Fake news.

Dr Mike yeadon, ex Vice President of Pfizer said any new drugs they were working on were not tested on pregnant women
He has an excellent video on bitchute but I can’t post it here in case it’s not allowed

I'm not sure if MN wouldn't remove Yeadon's lies on the alt-right Bitchute platform which is one of only a few places willing to touch him with a bargepole, no.

In the meantime there's another fact-check about what a piece of lying shit he is.

And there's a useful summary of the kind of platform Bitchute is.
