Who has yellow carded their side effects?

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 02/04/2021 10:06

I had my AZ a couple of weeks ago. Doctor said “you might get a bit of a temperature and feel quite poorly if you’re very unlucky but less than 1% of people will get that”. I was extremely sceptical about that and as I feared I had short-lived flu-like symptoms. I also had an additional unusual but non-serious symptom - a huge flare up of cold sores. All absolutely fine, what I’d expected and no reason not to take the vaccine, but I’m 99% sure they were vaccine related.

Should I yellow card? What have other people done? I guess it’s a bit hypocritical for me to get cross with doctor for saying that common side effects are rare when I haven’t made the effort to report.

Please please do

It’s the only way the system works properly

anxiousstanley · 02/04/2021 10:11

I had mouth ulcers and a blister type rash "where the sun doesn't shine"
My doctor said unconnected but I'm not sure... I've not had mouth ulcers in years and never suffered from skin complaints. These came within 4 days of the jab. Plus I felt wretched. I would be interested to know if others have had the same.

Horizons83 · 02/04/2021 10:11

I reported my heart palpitations. As far as I’m aware the yellow card website is for reporting all potential side effects, not just rare or unknown ones. I assume they will only be able to refine the list of suspected side effects is they are reported.

BeyondMyWits · 02/04/2021 10:14

Yes, report. DH had a sore red arm and flu like symptoms after his and I asked him to report it. (He wouldn't have bothered if I hadn't said anything). The future vaccine developers need to know . We have different vaccines for this virus and it may help doctors to know which patients may tolerate which vaccine better. ( If they know someone has a fear of vomiting, they could allocate one with a lower incidence of that in side effects for instance)

moochingtothepub · 02/04/2021 10:15

I did, they need the information

ScaredNeedHelp1 · 02/04/2021 10:20

Yes I reported via yellow card. I had palpations (very short lived), pins and needles and skull-crushing headache (like nothing I've experienced before and have had migraines and cluster headaches in the past) that lasted 4 days until it eased off.

selflove · 02/04/2021 10:21

Oh wow, this is interesting, and I didn't know it was a thing! Both my mum/dad/stepmum/SIL all had flu like type aide affects after their jab. Basically bedbound for 24 hours and all said it was the worst they've ever felt. None reported all, none of us knew that was a "thing". I'll tell them to report it now, better that an accurate picture is given if future vaccines are developed!x

EnglishRain · 02/04/2021 10:29

I didn't know this was important but have just done it, thanks for posting OP. I'm breastfeeding so and was pleased to see it gave the option to state that. I'm 29 and had a very intense but short lived reaction. Was not good being in sole charge of 8mo DD!

So should we be reporting all side effects, including ones we were expecting/told about? So sore arm and fatigue? Or is it only for side effects not already on the list?
callthevet · 02/04/2021 14:00

Yes I reported mine

Stroller15 · 02/04/2021 14:01

Yes please report. The info is very useful.

99victoria · 02/04/2021 14:05

I reported. I had chills for a few hours followed by nausea and vomiting and a loss of appetite with severe fatigue which lasted a few days

HeronLanyon · 02/04/2021 14:07

I know 2 who have had shingles very badly 2-3 weeks after first jab. Not under stress or run down etc. Looking at research there is some ‘noise’ beginning about this. Because of this both have reported.

roguetomato · 02/04/2021 14:09

I haven't, since i didn't have any except sore arm, which is expected of any injection.

RavingAnnie · 02/04/2021 14:09

Please just report it. They won't do anything unless they see a pattern.

I do wonder if the lack of the blood clot side effect seen in this country is due to lack of awareness of the yellow card system. Doctors seem to just go "oh it's probably unrelated" and don't tell people about the system! No wonder no one knows about it!

whataballbag · 02/04/2021 14:39

I yellow carded mine, flu like symptoms and mega shooting pains down both legs

OwBist · 02/04/2021 14:41

I did. Also had cold sores, plus a rash over my torso. It only takes a few minutes, and it's good to know that my side effects are a lot more common than I feared.

Horizons83 · 02/04/2021 14:44

@RichardMarxisinnocent I don't know the answer to that, but when I reported I couldn't see anything that stated I should only be reporting things that are not already listed on the info sheet. And thinking logically, I assume they would need reports of all side effects to be able to move a certain issue from the 'rare' to the 'common' side effect list, or vice versa.

MadisonAvenue · 02/04/2021 14:52

I did. The following day I was so very tired and had terrible aching joints, pains in my legs, nausea, no appetite and I had a constant thirst. The second day was slightly better.

redcandlelight · 02/04/2021 14:54

yes, do it.
your dr or other hcp should report any side effects patients tell them about their medicines but I suspect they rarely do.

Bumply · 02/04/2021 14:56

I use the Zoe app

covid.joinzoe.com/

As well as logging any potential Covid symptoms it also allows you to record vaccines and any side effects.

I was offered a Covid test after reporting headaches for a few days.
Not one of the classic Covid symptoms, but because using the Zoe app counts as part of a trial you get the option.

bumbleymummy · 02/04/2021 15:01

It was a bit misleading for the doctor to say less than 1% feel poorly afterwards.

From the AZ insert:

Very Common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people)
tenderness, pain, warmth, itching or bruising where the injection is given
generally feeling unwell
feeling tired (fatigue)
chills or feeling feverish
headache
feeling sick (nausea)
joint pain or muscle ache

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)
swelling, redness or a lump at the injection site
fever
being sick (vomiting) or diarrhoea
flu-like symptoms, such as high temperature, sore throat, runny nose, cough and chills

ExtraordinaryQuince · 02/04/2021 15:05

I did.

hellcatspangle · 02/04/2021 15:18

I did, I developed a runny nose a couple of days after that's turned into a sinus infection. It only took a few minutes to fill it in.

LauristonLane · 02/04/2021 15:23

I had no idea that there is a system for reporting. I've been so ill as have most of my friends.
I'm worrying about the longer term and have a very slight sense of regret in having this vaccine...a kind of 'why did I just follow expectation (like a bloody sheep)'mentality.
