Tiredness and body aches 8 days after Astra Zeneca jab

I had my jab AZ last Monday, was fine until Tuesday morning when I started having body aches and feeling generally unwell and I have been feeling like that since. Everyone I talk to was quite unwell for a couple of days and then fine! What I had was mild, no temperature, shaking or headaches, but I just don’t seem to be able to shake this tiredness and achey feeling. I just wonder if someone had something similar and how long it lasted.

Interestingly my neighbour said exactly the same thing. She felt dreadful 8 days after AZ. I thought she should have got tested for Covid but maybe it’s a side effect?

Downriver · 29/03/2021 21:13

Had mine on Wednesday. Felt fine after 24 hours, but yesterday got achey and dizzy and fell over. Today really really tired. Some say it was the full moon last night though that led to sleepless night!!!

ColaHubbaBubba · 29/03/2021 21:51

Had mine on Friday and I'm still not totally ok. Nausea and a bit achey. So that's 3.5 days in so far for me. It's definitely better than it was though as i had a fever and chills and headache and things too and now it's just a little noticable.

Flamingos · 29/03/2021 21:55

That’s how I feel, really really tired and generally not myself, I don’t feel dreadful and I didn’t even the first couple of days after the jab. I just thought after 8 days I would have gone completely back to normal....

I hate these threads. Just because you feel unwell does not mean it is the vaccine. Hypochondria.

HandyBendySandy · 29/03/2021 21:59

I'm still a bit iffy on day 3, but nowhere near as bad as I was on Sat/Sun. I still feel a bit woozy, can't eat much and had to keep taking paracetamol to get through work this morning.

I hope it clears soon, I had a weird visual disturbance this morning as well. And neuralgia sensations in my hands over the weekend. All gone now.

Flamingos · 29/03/2021 22:07

Well, it is the vaccine and these side effects are due to the immune system doing its job! As it’s new to all of us, I was just wondering if anyone had been feeling the same way and how long it lasted that’s all.

Had it last Wednesday. No Side effects.

Obakarama · 29/03/2021 22:13

It is not hypochondria. It is actually really interesting to observe how the vaccines affect us.

SophieB100 · 29/03/2021 22:31

I had the vaccine (AZ) 11 days ago, and had three really rough days which started about 12 hours after the jab; headache, sickness, freezing cold, boiling hot, insomnia, aching joints. Started to pick up on the Sunday, but the for the last week have felt just not right, bit dizzy, achy and painful joints. Very tired too. Much better than I was, but not 100%. Arm has finally stopped aching though, so that's a bonus.
Hope you feel better soon OP.

Not hypochondria at all. I have never felt so ill after having my vaccine last Monday and still have swollen lymph nodes around my collarbone which came up 2 days after the jab. I can assure you I am no hypochondriac asI have not visited the doctor for 20 years apart from having my babies and routine screening.
Flamingos · 30/03/2021 08:07

Thanks @SophieB100 My arm stopped aching after a few days as well. I hope you feel better soon too, I am glad I had the vaccine and I am lucky to live in an area where under 50’s (I’m 43) have been offered it. I suppose I am a bit jealous of friends who were fine in a couple of days and it’s reassuring to know that there are people that still feel a bit under the weather after this long. My husband keeps saying it’s impossible, I must be exaggerating! He had his and was perfectly fine ( but he is a bit older than me)

I had the AZ on Thursday and I still don't feel quite right. I had a raging temperature the night after which was gone by morning, but I still feel tired and spaced out and my lymph nodes in my neck came up within hours of the jab and still haven't gone down.

I use the Zoe app and it sent me for a Covid test which came back negative. I am not a hypochondriac, I never feel ill after a flu jab and I really wasn't expecting to after this one.

I haven't had Covid to my knowledge, but a friend at the hospital told me they are finding people with strong reactions are usually those who have previously had Covid, so maybe I had it asymptomatically.

Flamingos · 30/03/2021 11:32

Quick update - I spoke to my GP this morning ( I had a migraine medication review booked) and I enquired about my side effects. She said they have been receiving many calls about similar symptoms, apparently this happens when the immune system overreacts to the virus, she said it should pass in a few days, if not to call back. So basically it is reasonably common

Glad you were reassured by GP OP, and hope you are starting to pick up now. Interesting about the strong immune response due to people previously having had Covid @Ultimatecougar, I was told the same by a GP friend. I am now more convinced than ever that I Covid last March, before testing was available to confirm it. I work in a High School and we had a lot of outbreaks during the Autumn term, and I escaped it then, which might be because I already had enough antibodies. So, that and the jab causing the reaction it did could well have been my immune system over-reacting.

Hope everyone who is feeling poorly, feels better soon Flowers

So do I, I really wish they'd stop. I'm due my vaccine next week and it makes me feel like not going ahead with it tbh. Ive had Covid. Just lost my sense of smell for a couple of days and felt a bit tired. Ive never experienced such extreme symptoms as described here my whole life!

MrsPworkingmummy · 01/04/2021 00:47

DH and I had ours at 10am today. We were both fine following it, albeit a sore arm. By 7pm, I felt grotty and started shaking which didn't stop for 2 hours. I now can't sleep due to feeling poorly, hot and with a racing heart. Really prominent dull headache. DH was fine up until 11, the stated he felt weird and his chest was tight. He then also started shivering and shaking, but it only lasted about 10 minutes before he fell asleep in bed. I honestly wish I hadn't had it. We had ours at a pharmacy and we both in and out in 5minutes. We were given a leaflet about side effects and what we are experiencing seems typical?

XiCi · 01/04/2021 08:01

I dont think it sounds typical at all. I know alot of people now that have had the vaccine. All of mine and DH family over 40 and friends and family under 40 who work in health care. Not one single person has had a side effect other than a bit of a sore arm. Whereas on mumsnet everyone seems to have had symptoms akin to the bubonic plague

😂 exactly. Some of the hysterical shite I read on here is laughable.
XiCi · 01/04/2021 08:38

I know right. Because if these symptoms were typical what would be the point of the vaccine? Given that the for vast majority of people the symptoms of Covid are nowhere near as bad as these side effects being reported.

I haven't had any extreme symptoms and, as I said, I am happy I had the vaccine. I think it would actually be much more beneficial if people were made aware that side effects could sometimes last over a week or be quite intense for a couple of days. How would this put anyone off having the vaccine?? Still preferable to Covid that's for sure! What it would do, in my opinion, would be putting people's mind at rest about it being normal and transitory and not something to worry/ call the GP about. I am actually feeling nearly completely back to normal, just a bit tired, but that's all.

That's not a comparison , Covid might give mild symptoms, but can also kill you and more importantly, you can pass it on to someone else and they could die from it, you can't do that with the vaccine! And that was my main reason of getting the vaccine, to protect others, who could be more vulnerable to it than me.
OP posts:
BIWI · 01/04/2021 10:56

Did you not get a leaflet when you had your vaccine? It lists the possible side effects and groups them as very common, common and uncommon. 16 in total.

It also says to contact your GP if you get any side effects and/or any not in the leaflet and, if you're concerned, to report directly to the yellow card site.

Have you done any of that?

RhapsodyandAshe · 01/04/2021 11:04

I have had both doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Came up with a mouth ulcer on the same side as the vaccine was given both times within the hour, both gone by the next day and I have reported that to the yellow card scheme.
I also had terrible pains especially on my left side after the second dose, pretty sure that it hasn't done my fibromyalgia any good but much better today than it was yesterday (two days after second dose).
I also developed shingles two weeks and six days after my initial vaccine so if that happens again will also be reporting that to the yellow card scheme.
