It’s good he’s got a slot but I just cannot shake the feeling that something will go wrong - I feel really scared

Anxiety is horrible, isn’t it.

I am very pro vaccine, have been involved in the vaccines programme and have been very pleased and excited to get mine (both of them now - yay!). Yet that part of my brain that would win Olympic gold in catastrophising whispered terrible things in my ears as I sat there with the vaccinator and then waited for my 15 minutes. DH was behind me and wanted to go after his first 5 minutes (we were on a hospital site and had to walk past the ED to get out anyway) but I delayed him.

What I’m saying is that you should not beat yourself up for feeling like this, but recognise that it is irrational. The benefits by far outweigh the risks. And even if your DH was one of the tiny number of people to have a severe reaction he would still be fine in the end. If he got Covid he would be at much greater risk of serious harm.

annacondom · 28/03/2021 22:20

My DH was convinced he was going to die. Seriously. He gave me instructions beforehand for what to do in the event of his demise. We've both got long Covid, both had the jab last week, both had headache and felt really tired for two days after, BUT both now feel better than we did before the jab! I am confident that my body is now making antibodies, whereas before, it wasn't. Please see this jab as a positive thing, not a possible problem.

QuietBatPeople1 · 28/03/2021 22:24

@annacondom how your husband felt resonates with how I feel

I had mine 2 weeks ago. I was positive I would be laid up in bed for a few days feeling ill. I had zero side effects, apart from I really slept well at night for 3 days. All family and friends that have had it, some had sore arms and aches, but nothing that stopped them working or doing normal things.

Gertie75 · 28/03/2021 22:29

Anxiety isn't nice, I'd been really looking forward to having my jab but did have a small panic attack on the car on the way home on Thursday after having it.

The horror stories on the news don't help, which have all turned out to be false, I kept telling myself that at side effect of the vaccine is much less scary than being in hospital on my own on a ventilator.

These are very strange times and nothing feels normal at the moment.

EmmaOvary · 28/03/2021 22:31

Anxiety sufferer here. I had my jab (AZ) 2 weeks ago and felt a bit rubbish for a day or two but nothing paracetamol couldn't sort. Blood clots are unrelated. You know he will be fine. Think of it as a little cog in a machine of vaccinations that will make us all safer and freer. Better days are coming and each jab is a little piece of that. And be kind to yourself!

PatchworkElmer · 28/03/2021 22:40

I had mine (AZ) yesterday and have really been quite unwell today, which has been a complete shock to me. All within the realms of normal side effects and I’m much better this evening though- it’s basically been a difficult 24 hours which I would rather have avoided. But it’s better than Covid.

ColaHubbaBubba · 28/03/2021 22:45

Honestly I do understand. As the needle went in I thought ‘Oh fuck I hope this isn’t a mistake’. And I’m very pro vaccine. But it’s important and will be fine. I’ve felt a bit crap for the weekend but nothing scary.

moochingtothepub · 28/03/2021 22:53

Why he scared. 30 million have been vaccinated in the U.K. yes. I got side affects but they lasted 36 hours really with a sore arm for longer

Shrivelled · 28/03/2021 23:04

Millions of clinically extremely vulnerable and people with underlying health conditions have had the vaccine already and have been absolutely fine. I have a blood clot disorder and had the vaccine and was fine. Your DH will be fine.

Redburnett · 28/03/2021 23:17

Why are you more scared of a vaccine than a serious illness?

Myalternate · 28/03/2021 23:39

A good friend of mine had the Az one a week ago and felt really unwell and feverish as if she had flu, but the symptoms disappeared suddenly. She thinks she must have dreamt it all. 😄

Lindy2 · 28/03/2021 23:40

Getting Covid would be a whole lots scarier.

I've had both - Covid and a vaccine.

Covid was far far worse I can assure you.

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/03/2021 00:21

@QuietBatPeople1

Thank you *@TheFormidableMrsC*- fingers crossed for you to beat the disease
Thanks lovely, I'm fine and nearly at end of treatment. I can say that prior to my diagnosis, I had horrific health anxiety. Now my biggest fear has actually happened, I can say it isn't the worst thing that has happened to me. I hope the same for your DH. I'm absolutely sure he'll be fine. Perhaps consider seeking some help for your anxiety, I have done this and it's been life changing. I don't think the vaccine is the biggest issue here Thanks
RedcurrantPuff · 29/03/2021 00:24

He’ll be just fine, same as me, my husband, and all my other family members and friends who have had it.

ArtemisiaGentle · 29/03/2021 06:30

I had the vaccine 2 weeks ago. My husband is the super-anxious one. He kept showing me articles about the side effects of both types of vaccine and saying I should think twice. The Internet is terrible for anxious people. In the end I had a sore arm for a few days and felt a bit nauseous but nothing else. I have an ectopic heartbeat and I'm overweight so I am already at an increased risk of DVT and stroke. I feel fine now.

QuietBatPeople1 · 29/03/2021 09:13

@TheFormidableMrsC that’s wonderful to hear.

Yes I suffer from health anxiety as well. It’s very difficult to deal with and also very difficult to explain to people as well -

Wake are parked now and he’s gone inside. I insisted that I (and daughter as cannot leave her alone at home) come incase he goes into an anaphylactic shock and also to insist that he waits for 10 mins before driving off. I don’t think he gives much importance to what I say but I’m doing it for my piece of mind I suppose...

30 million in the UK have had the vaccine - not one single one of them died. Why are you scared of @QuietBatPeople1 .... step away from social media and the ridiculous scare stories - do you think he will die? Do you think he will end up chipped with Bill Gates following him around... Do you feel he will become infertile... do you think his DNA will be 'altered'.... these are some of the stories people use to scare the shit out of others/mis-inform others.... etc etc etc

He might have a sore arm, he may feel rubbish for a few days....

LEMtheoriginal · 29/03/2021 14:08

Hope it went well OP had mine yesterday, feel a bit rubbish today but not horrendous

Rainbowsandstorms · 29/03/2021 14:50

I hope it all went well op. Health anxiety is just horrible isn’t it. I have health anxiety and had the AZ on Saturday. I was so horribly anxious on the day and worried afterwards but I’m almost at the 48 hour mark and other than a bit of a sore arm, feeling thirsty the night after and feeling a little bit tired and not quite a hundred percent I’ve been fine so far. I’m still worrying a bit but feel much calmer than I did. I posted a thread the night before my vaccination on a thread called ‘Health anxiety, vaccine booked, coping strategies’ and got some brilliant advice and coping strategies that may be useful to read through. Sending a handhold and try and focus on how much better protected he’ll be from Covid in a few weeks.

Bluntness100 · 29/03/2021 14:52

Op are you getting help for your mental illnesses?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 29/03/2021 14:53

How did it go? I had mine a few weeks ago now and I was exhausted for a while but ok now. I have had a blood clot in the last (in my 20s) and I’m not sure if that means I am more or less likely to have another - but I’m ok.

Hope he’s ok. Take it easy - more likely to do yourself harm being so stressed.

WithTeaTree · 29/03/2021 15:04

If it’s any reassurance I had the AZ vaccine a week or so ago and I’m fine. No side effects except a sore arm for about a week, and that was pretty mild.

Summergirl76 · 29/03/2021 15:15

I think I read you are 20,000 times more likely to experience a blood clot after a covid infection, than after a vaccination, with 5 in 5 million people experiencing a clot after the vaccine and 100,000 in 5 million people after covid infection. There are risks to everything in life, but it's about weighing up the pros and cons and the pros of the vaccine massively outweigh the pros of not receiving the vaccine.

are you getting help for your anxiety?
