For family visit or holidays, just in general.

And without hotel quarantine.

I mean late July/ August btw.

I know noone can confirm, I just want to hear your thoughts.

@Fountainsoftea

How many of us will actually be vaccinated by July? It's looking increasingly unlikely I'll be able to. Will that mean the whole family misses out because of me? There must be loads of us too young to have one. Especially in Wales, which seems to be a total lottery at the minute.
European countries are accepting negative tests for entering the country. I’m planing Two trips abroad. One of them my husband will be 1 dose so he’ll enter with a pcr. Kids some countries don’t need pcr depending on the age. (Uk doesn’t request it atm for those below 12)

I booked my US vacation in 2019 and had to put it back to 2021 last summer. I’m pretty positive at the moment that I’ll get to go and if travel corridors open, I won’t hesitate in jetting off
There is a presidential proclamation in force that you cannot enter the USA at present if you are a UK citizen who has been in the UK in the previous 14 days.

ESTAs and most Visas are not being issued either.

The important bit from your sentence is “at present”. God knows what It’ll be like in summer & I think all of us with tickets or travel ideas in mind are saying “I’ve tickets , if allowed then I’ll go”. Right now nobody can leave the country if not essential so it’s not even whether USA would allow the pp

There is talk of a pilot travel corridor between the US and the UK coming into use by June. Additionally Aer Lingus has been given permission (by the US) to fly from Manchester to Orlando from the end of July.

If this doesn’t come into fruition, if I can travel, I can stay in a country like Turkey for 2 weeks prior to arriving in the states, where I will stay for 5 weeks before returning to the UK.

StarCat2020 · 27/03/2021 22:52

@EasterIssland
I agree.

One thing I have noticed during this pandemic is that human beings don't cope with uncertainty at all well (me included)

Totallyfedup1979 · 27/03/2021 22:54

Additionally travel is permitted (you are exempt from the ban) if you are buying a house abroad...so, I could always do that? Throw a bit of house hunting into my vacay! Awesome.

I found this advice from ABTA quite informative

Aer Lingus have, though probably because of the context of the thread it's perhaps worth emphasising that that is a slot/route licensing permission that has been granted by the US Department of Transport rather than some special decision related to covid.

Aer Lingus will need travel corridors or an easing of US/UK Covid related restrictions just as much as anybody else currently trying to operate profitably on the route, such as the likes of Virgin.

Who knows? I choose to remain hopeful

Midlifelady · 28/03/2021 00:11

I thought they'd already said no travel until July. Plus with the increasing infection rates in Europe it depends where you want to go.

StarCat2020 · 28/03/2021 00:19

The point I was trying to make above is that even if the UK allowed travel right now, there are a lot of restrictions in other countries that prevent most UK citizens from entering them.

AlwaysLatte · 28/03/2021 00:30

We've decided not to bank on anything and booked a couple of uk holidays (cottage and canal boat) instead. We'll make up for it next year. Tough though, we have family overseas, as do many.

Over 50s are still being done here in the midshires (first jab). Our second jab isn't due until June. One of our neighbours volunteers in the place doing the vaccinations locally. They can only book people in according to the number of vaccinations they receive.

Reports of "confidence" in UK/English vaccines this morning don't inspire much confidence in us. Mostly because that's a Tory MP, and they're notorious for being lying shysters.

Otherwise: UK holidays are, in our experience, overpriced. It's always been less expensive to spend a couple of weeks in France/Northern Spain, and enjoy whatever's on offer there, than to even consider anything similar in the UK. Plus, the food and culture in France/Spain, combined with the weather... much better prospects/experience.

Precisely. It doesn't matter whether people are able to leave the UK, if other countries won't let UK peeps/anyone who's been here in.
DollyParton2 · 28/03/2021 14:56

Highly likely international travel will resume mid- end of summer. Andrew Marr this morning discussed this and thanks to vaccinations/ warmer climate etc etc looking very likely by August. Have 3 weeks booked Mallorca August and still looking forwards to going. If not as a holiday then we will be viewing some villas for sale anyway so could go this way. We are GOING!!!

Fountainsoftea · 28/03/2021 20:34

I will be gutted if I can't get to go on holiday cos I'm not old enough to be vaccinated.

EasterIssland · 29/03/2021 14:17

Happy news for those of us who want to travel abroad
Via TheGuardian

Matt Hancock, the health secretary, told ITV’s This Morning that “the door is not shut” on foreign holidays this summer. He told the programme:

We may get to a position where if you’ve had your jab, then other countries will say ‘you’ve got to have the jab to come in’. And so we’ll make sure everybody can do that.

Asked if there may be foreign holidays this summer, he said:

There may well be, I wouldn’t rule that out. The door is not shut, it’s just too early to say, but what we can say with confidence is that the unlocking home is on track.

He confirmed that his own summer holiday would be in Cornwall this year. And he revealed that he would be visiting his constituency, West Suffolk, at the weekend for the first time since November. He said:

We’re saying that you should minimise travel but if you want to travel to see friends and family then that is absolutely fine.

For instance, I haven’t been home to Suffolk since November. I’m planning to go this weekend, but only go for the day because there’s no overnight stays, but I’m going to go for the day on Easter Sunday. I’m going to see friends in Suffolk outdoors, and then come back again.
