For family visit or holidays, just in general.

And without hotel quarantine.

I mean late July/ August btw.

I know noone can confirm, I just want to hear your thoughts.

My prediction is perhaps to some countries, but not in general, and I think you will need to have been vaccinated.

The other one is that it will be very expensive.

Notavegan · 27/03/2021 18:12

I normally travel twice a year and I can't even consider it

Roselilly36 · 27/03/2021 18:15

Very unlikely, gov are launching a campaign advocating the joys of staycations, speaks volumes.

BritWifeinUSA · 27/03/2021 18:47

My mum has booked to come here in September. Cant wait! She last visited in 2018 and planned to come last year but it was cancelled. I’m confident she will get here this year.

MmeLaraque · 27/03/2021 19:07

I watch French news every night, and read Spanish/other European news regularly. Message/chat with French/Spanish/European friends regularly.

We're neither planning nor booking anything yet. We've done lots of travelling pre-covid, and are grateful for that. In the meantime, we're working on quality of life in general, and being grateful for small mercies.

Countries can and will (and *have already done) impose border restrictions/close borders at very short notice. France wasn't legal to enter "Unless necessary" for part of last year. People went anyway. We prefer to stay on the right side of the law.

Gertie75 · 27/03/2021 19:15

I'd be surprised if it was banned for the whole of the summer, there's still 4 months until August and a lot can happen in that time especially if they manage to get a good vaccination programme in place.

I think our government would prefer we all stayed in the UK though to minimise the risk, I'd be gutted if a resistant variant appeared because of foreign holiday travel.

Lantanacamara · 27/03/2021 19:49

I'm hoping and praying we can still go (Turkey) on 29th June as it was moved from last year and I'll have to pay to move it this time. I really cannot afford to holiday at home, most accommodation is booked up and what's left it wildly overpriced and it'll rain every day.

‘Joys’ of staycations? Hmm

I tried last year and there’s no way I’d bother vacationing in the UK again. A complete waste of money.
If I don’t get to the US this year, I will simply save my money and go twice next year.

whiteroseredrose · 27/03/2021 20:12

We are hoping to go to Sicily in September but I wouldn't book anything yet.

That said we did manage a trip to Iceland last August when we thought it was all over!

The trip was booked three days before we left as we weren't taking any chances.

Randominternetbitch · 27/03/2021 20:27

We have flights booked for end of August to the US, booked last year at a great price. I’m quietly confident it will go ahead and restrictions or not, it will be amazing. Can’t wait to escape this miserable existence. If we can’t go, will just take vouchers and roll it forward to next year.

MRex · 27/03/2021 20:29

Maybe Israel or the USA. I don't think there will be other options that don't risk cancellation.

MRex · 27/03/2021 20:32

@Totallyfedup1979 - Maybe buy a sunbed? Lack of predictable sun is the only criticism, otherwise you just chose very badly. If you can't find a single part of the UK to enjoy on a two week holiday, then the issue is not the UK. It really is you.

Harsh!

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 27/03/2021 20:37

@MRex or is it? Because the problem with everyone staying in the UK is that most places seem very very booked out, and the places we normally consider have put their prices sky-high - way higher than before - which may be understandable but has probably priced a lot of people out of a holiday.

Patronising, much

Lol, ok, I’ll gladly admit it’s just me.

I just prefer warm sea, snorkelling around with the tropical fish, palm trees swaying in a light breeze, the warm sun beating down on me, lizards scurrying about and colourful birds high up in the trees. I guess I’m just a bit of a weirdo.

Chickenriceandpeas · 27/03/2021 21:42

@Totallyfedup1979 not just you! Uk holidays are shit - hugely over-priced for the same weather, same culture, same language, same food - what’s the point? I actually judge people who LIKE them 🤣

MRex · 27/03/2021 21:45

That stuff is great on occasion @Totallyfedup1979, I've enjoyed trips including that, but surely there are other things that you can find enjoyable. Caving, kayaking, cycling in the woods, wetlands etc etc etc.

It will happen. MP's will want their foreign holidays for summer recess.

I can do all of the above in Florida MRex. I often canoe through the mangroves and look out for gators and lemon sharks. I have swam in underground caves. I’ve rode horses through the cypress woods, passing deer, raccoon and the occasional cayote. And I love trekking around Circle B or Lake Apopka and watching the alligators or the osprey diving for fish...and I can do it all in a bikini and shades.

That’s just my personal preference though and I feel perfectly entitled to like that better than the cold and drizzly UK alternative.

The problem with UK holidays are good weather = overcrowding, particularly beaches, bad weather = washout.

Imagine how stupidly packed places will be here in July/August if people can't go abroad. That'd be a nightmare itself.
Fountainsoftea · 27/03/2021 22:06

How many of us will actually be vaccinated by July? It's looking increasingly unlikely I'll be able to. Will that mean the whole family misses out because of me? There must be loads of us too young to have one. Especially in Wales, which seems to be a total lottery at the minute.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 27/03/2021 22:07

I think it would be a huge mistake for the government to allow it This summer.

3rd wave in Europe, lots of other countries also having a wave

We are FINALLY in a good place in this country. Vaccinations going well, numbers down, deaths down.

I think we/they should concentrate on opening this country up and getting our economy going again and restrict foreign travel to limit the impact of new variants.

Also, has everyone forgotten that the UK was doing ok until people buggered off to Italy to go skiing? We could face the same situation again
