How much protection do YOU think the vaccine (AZ) gives you?

Just that really! And when does it start working?

OP posts:
AnneLovesGilbert · 24/03/2021 11:47

You clearly have access to the internet so why not do some proper research instead of asking people to spoon feed you?

Candyfloss99 · 24/03/2021 11:48

Yea you need to research this before people start with their own propaganda. It is all on the WHO and government websites.

Gerla · 24/03/2021 11:50

That's not my point. I want to know what people think the answer is without googling. Hmm I'm interested in what the general perception is. If you don't want to answer, don't - but you can refrain from the snippy comments too, thanks.

Ohwhataprogramme · 24/03/2021 11:51

A lot more than not having it that's for sure! Had my first one 3 weeks ago so I reckon I'm a good 60% protected, not doing anything differently yet but does feel great knowing I've had it.

Lockdownennui · 24/03/2021 11:51

I think a number that I make up off the top off my head will be less accurate than the numbers coming out of peer-reviewed research. Why are you asking this?

Gerla · 24/03/2021 11:52

Why are you asking this?
Because I have already had mine and was just reading the small print and was quite surprised at the answer. Yes, I could have researched it beforehand but I was just grateful to get it (and still am!)

OP posts:
poppycat10 · 24/03/2021 11:52

After one dose, about 70%, after two doses more than 90% (against serious illness, a bit less against getting it at all).

Igowherethesasquatchlives · 24/03/2021 11:53

I have had covid and 1 vaccine,. hoping I have good protection, not sure of a % figure tho

lubeybooby · 24/03/2021 11:53

I don't know exactly, I just know all the available vaccines far, far exceeded the minimum expectations when creating vaccines and they are all more than good enough.

I'll leave the exact numbers to the scientists who created them and understand the herd immunity effect and minimum numbers etc. I remember watching a documentary style/interview that explained it a while ago and I was very impressed

It's not til 3 weeks after your second dose that you gain maximum protection, but even the percentage achieved by 3 weeks after first dose exceeds minimum vaccination requirements

OverTheRainbow88 · 24/03/2021 11:53

3 weeks after first dose roughly 75%’no symptoms and 100% chance of not dying/

3 weeks after 2 jabs 99% chance of not getting very ill or dying

OverTheRainbow88 · 24/03/2021 11:54

I think/hope!!!

Why not just provide the true answer unless you want to call people out for their stupidity? Or do you want to promote falsehoods and fake news? Are you just a lazy ass journo looking for a headline?

Your question makes no sense.

Gerla · 24/03/2021 11:54

On the information given to me it says " 59.5% protection after two doses". I must admit I thought it would be higher but it wouldn't have put me off getting it.

Sorry, I can't help with your reading comprehension skills. It's called curiosity - like 99% of the threads on here.

OP posts:
Whichjab · 24/03/2021 11:55

The % is always in Efficacy but it's not always clear exactly what they are measuring against. Going by my inlaws behaviour since first jab they would say 100%.

Magnificentmug12 · 24/03/2021 11:56

I rekon 65% second dose 80%. I haven’t looked anything up so guessing as that’s just what I ‘feel’

Protection against what though?

Erm. 100% chance of not dying?

Would love to see any drug company guarantee that.

I think your post probably sums up why op started the thread!

Gerla · 24/03/2021 11:58

Protection against what though?

I guess from contracting the virus - but it's not specified.

@ButtonMoony

Well yes I’m always verging on the side of being too hopeful!!

Has anyone died after having 2 doses and after a few weeks after second dose?

notrub · 24/03/2021 12:00

Sadly none at all against exposure to daft questions on the internet.

TheVanguardSix · 24/03/2021 12:02

I reckon 60-70% immunity for 12 weeks, possibly 16 maximum.

Cookerhood · 24/03/2021 12:34

There's a big difference between being protected from catching it at all, and being protected from serious illness, hospitalisation & death. For the latter its very very high.

You're not wrong.

Vaccines offer NO protection against "catching" a virus - this is self-evident as they empower the *adaptive" immune system which only kicks into action AFTER infection.

Their efficacy is measured by how quickly your system eradicates the infection - if done quickly enough, you will never test +ve, slightly slower you may test +ve, but never show symptoms. Slower still and you have a mild case.

All of the vaccines are likely to offer 95% protection against serious illness and death for at least 12 months, and likely far longer in those
