Am I allowed to do this on 29th March?

Travel to my parents house and sit in their back garden?

I've just read you can meet in private gardens ( up to 2 different households) from March 29th.

For some reason I thought this wasn't allowed until June!

Good points re 2 households. When we were couple with your 5 children that was 7 so jointing that another family of 7 and you get 14 allowed to meet outdoors. It was the same last year when many students where my son was studying were in private rented houses of 10 students and the police did not seem to understand 10 unrelated people lived in these kinds of houses and could mix with each other.

What does "Stay Local" mean?
Could I drive 15 miles to the beach?

yeOldeTrout · 23/03/2021 19:56

The local newspapers online are all suggesting that "Stay Local" probably means stay within your own county or a county like radius (I guess that means max. 60 miles away). They also say Local doesn't actually have a definition, but will be enforced anyway!

Hoorah, more reasons to be afraid of the police. Oh Joy.

yeOldeTrout · 23/03/2021 19:56

Sorry.. .30 mile radius. maybe. Who TF knows.

In England I don't believe there will be any requirement in the legislation (as opposed to guidance) to "stay local" from 29 March (beyond the practicalities of needing to get there and back in a day because you can't stay overnight at someone else's house). If anyone thinks I've got this wrong, please would you point me to the provision in the regulations that imposes any kind of limit on how far you can travel.

Lurkingforawhile · 23/03/2021 23:42

It’s not possible to enforce “stay local” unless it’s in the legislation and there’s no sign of it. I’m not surprised as the last regs didn’t have any distance provisions in either. It’s because it’s really not practical, and they assume most people will follow the guidance. So no need to stay local if you are otherwise following the law. Hope everyone who can do so enjoys seeing friends and family after such a long time! (And fingers crossed for some sunshine)

Cannot wait, counting down these last few days! Going to be so nice to have friends in the garden again, kids can play

Yes and regarding using loo , last time I just left some wipes and asked guests to wipe and chuck in bin after use
I also cleaned loo before they came and we used upstairs they used downstairs and quick clean after they went with a wipe
Felt like we kept it hygenic enough that way

You CAN walk through someone's house and use the toilet.

@Itsasin1981, it’s not that it’s safer/less safe, it’s to provide measurable data after every step so it’s effect can be seen in the no of cases etc . So it is important to stick to the dates so the effects can be seen.
