Travel to my parents house and sit in their back garden?

I've just read you can meet in private gardens ( up to 2 different households) from March 29th.

For some reason I thought this wasn't allowed until June!

OP posts:
Donotfeedthebears · 23/03/2021 10:54

My parents are going to sit inside.

Xenia · 23/03/2021 10:56

This the law (never go by guidelines just by the law) and it was just published yesterday I believe www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2021/364/pdfs/uksi_20210364_en.pdf ealth Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (Steps) (England) Regulations 2021 (for England).

Xenia · 23/03/2021 10:59

29 March rule of 6 restarts as long as only 2 households and outside. I believe you can meet in private gardens as long as only 6 people and only from 2 households from 29 March.

Cas112 · 23/03/2021 11:24

@Ifailed

You can, but not indoors, so presumably you'll have to clamber over the fence to get into their garden, unless there's side access.
hahaha
Xenia · 23/03/2021 11:27

It's all a bit over the top when most of the vulnerable have had the vaxx. My daughter's wedding reception for 13 guests in April has been cancelled by the company although the wedding in church can go ahead with 13 guests. The elderly parents on the other side are driving a long way to the church, hundreds of miles and yet they are not allowed into the flat after for a cup of tea which is a bit mean. I suppose at least you can sit outside on a park bench although knowing the UK it will be driving rain!

Delatron · 23/03/2021 12:20

Isn’t it rule of 6 or 2 households? So the 6 can all be from different households.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 23/03/2021 12:21

@Xenia It’s rule of six or two households - so you can have six from six households if you want, or two households if that means more than six people.

I guess to help bigger families be able to meet others?

poppycat10 · 23/03/2021 12:22

@ThroughThickAndThin01

A Downing Street spokesman has stated visitors are allowed to access the garden through the house and use the loo. This was allowed last time as well. It would be ridiculous if it wasn’t.
Quite. And I think it is rather more hygienic for people to use someone's loo than go out into the street and find a bush to hide behind!
Donotfeedthebears · 23/03/2021 12:23

Who is going to be checking if they step inside or not. Confused

JellyTots2009 · 23/03/2021 12:28

It does mention stay local though

Am I allowed to do this on 29th March?
Itsasin1981 · 23/03/2021 12:41

For goodness' sake, are people really going to allow guests into their garden but begrudge them using the toilet? Why do you think these things have to be followed absolutely to the letter like gospel?

toolatetooearly · 23/03/2021 12:50

Up to six people from multiple households

OR

two households (of any numbers)

and yes, you can go through the house to get to the garden or have a dump

TakeYourFinalPosition · 23/03/2021 12:51

@Itsasin1981 It’s allowed anyway, so it’s a bit of a non-issue

Unreasonabubble · 23/03/2021 12:54

My visitors are bringing their tents and camping in the garden overnight. Can't wait! Grin

SunshiningBetty · 23/03/2021 13:13

What about going to wales? When are we allowed to go and stay in our holiday home? It’s not a holiday let as we own it. Does anyone know?

This! I live in a terrace but we have a back gate. We won't be using it for visitors, they can use the front door as normal and walk through the house and I'll even let them use the loo if they want!
Tigerchips · 23/03/2021 13:27

"My daughter's wedding reception for 13 guests in April has been cancelled"

Really, You never mentioned it @Xenia Grin

OP - yes you can. I can't believe you really thought this was June though Confused

KeepWashingThoseHands · 23/03/2021 13:36

I can totally understand why OP was confused over dates or didn’t remember. Tiers, steps, roadmaps, multiple dates with varying degrees of restrictions lifted... and changes frequently.

FourTeaFallOut · 23/03/2021 13:45

Never have the words 'camping toilet tent' seemed so appealing.

lifeinlimbo2020 · 23/03/2021 13:57

@rattlemehearties

How far is the drive? Don't think you are meant to go into their house for the loo for example.
You are allowed to use toilets in peoples houses or in the pub
Am I allowed to do this on 29th March?
FourTeaFallOut · 23/03/2021 14:17

Oh, thank God, on reflection 'camping toilet tent' sounds a lot like trying to pee in a friend's garden without making a sound.

Lurkingforawhile · 23/03/2021 14:21

Forecast (in our area at least) is not bad at all! Off to see the in-laws on one of the Easter weekend days. We last saw them in August which my OH finds hard as I see mine much more often (for a walk / in bubble).

FourTeaFallOut · 23/03/2021 14:24

Predictably, the weather here on the 29th and onwards looks distinctly grotty.

Chickenriceandpeas · 23/03/2021 14:30

Jesus. I’d let them in the bloody house, piss all over the door handles & i wouldn’t care in the slightest.

Just because Boris says one day it’s not ok, one day it is - can’t you see this MAKES NO SENSE?!! Especially if they’ve been vaccinated. And you have kids who are being tested every 3 days (like I do) Some random arbitrary date makes no fucking difference!

Arghhhhh. I hate the world.

RoseAndRose · 23/03/2021 14:49

@Itsasin1981

Honestly, just do it. Do it tomorrow. Don't wait for a specific day to be 'allowed'. Why is it suddenly safer on the 29th than now ?
It's not because the date is 'magic'

It's because they have allowed a length of time between each step (or March, two half steps) so the effect on transmission can be assessed before moving on to the next part of the plan.

29th was chosen because it fits with the start of the school holidays

Visiting indoors is not on the cards before May.
