No

The lockdown roadmap will be mostly influenced by what happens in schools.

Not an ‘excuse’ - but a reason. They made a mistake putting dates to things because now we all want to live by those dates, even if they were always (allegedly!) data dependent. So yes, if case stay high/go higher - then we will remain in lockdown, but that’s not a change of plans.

I do worry that opening the schools all at once was basically allowing millions of little plague vectors Grin to come together with little scope for social distancing- but that they will blame the cases not dropping on the EU/vaccines - rather than the fact they dropped the ball opening all the schools at once.

The vaccine take up isn’t the only thing to be taken into account when deciding on easing of lockdown. As long as the death rate and hospitalisations continue to fall hopefully that’ll help. I imagine the case rate may rise with the mass testing in schools.

Why are infection rates going up already in some areas?

Schools.

Schools open. Families mixing as they don't see why they need to adhere to the guidelines if schools are open.

Ugh.

Do you mean will it possibly cause a delay in an ease to restrictions? If so, yes possibly a delay in when all restrictions will be fully lifted.
Or do you mean use that as an excuse to keep us under restrictions. If this is what you are referring to then no. Why would the government want to keep us in lockdown?

Acesulfame · 18/03/2021 15:20

No, because there is no incentive whatsoever for the government to keep us in lockdown longer than is absolutely necessary. I’m curious why you think they’d be looking for excuses to extend it when there is literally no upside to them doing so.

applesandoranges221 · 18/03/2021 15:44

Yes I think so - it will be rolled over the summer and then conveniently we’ll be back in winter so the government can keep us under lock and key even longer.

I suspect this is one of the reasons they’ve so strongly and permanently removed the right to protest.
