Are they currently doing physical PE in school?

What about other subjects such as design technology?

OP posts:
Wellbythebloodyhell · 18/03/2021 09:18

Yes they go in school in their PE kits on PE days

User27aw · 18/03/2021 09:20

Yes PE, they go in PE kits. DT seems to be all theory.

W00t · 18/03/2021 09:23

PE/games is all outdoors at DC's school currently, so happening twice a week. The changing rooms are closed, and pupils have to attend in PE/games kit on their timetabled days.
At my school (also secondary) we have games outdoors, PE groups are in the hall and gym split with all doors and windows open (kind of negates being indoors Wink) and pupils attend in PE kit on games days (changing rooms also closed).

DT - at DC's school, no practical lessons (my eldest does GCSE DT too!) at my school, the DT rooms are not allocated to a bubble, so when a year group have had DT the room is cleaned/fogged with disinfectant and another group can use later. We aren't having practicals for food though, resistant materials/textiles only.

DCs school seem to have more cases than mine, though it's about 20% bigger(pupil No.s)- they have already closed a year group since the return this time.

Borka · 18/03/2021 09:24

Yes, doing PE and get changed at school. Also started doing DT this term, using equipment, as well as drama and music in the specialist rooms. Not using science labs at all.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/03/2021 09:24

Yeah.

PE in their uniform
Mine does art. It’s running normally
I think Dt isn’t having much practical

Orangeblossom1975 · 18/03/2021 09:24

Yes and after school sport such as cricket

IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 18/03/2021 09:27

Everything as normal except no science practicals which I don’t really understand.

Januaryissodull · 18/03/2021 09:28

Thanks.

My dcs school aren't allowed to do practical PE it's all theory. Changing rooms closed and not allowed to go in in their PE kits.

They seem to be the only local school doing this.

It just doesn't seem right.

No other practical lessons at all either.

A sitting down lunch too. Not allowed to stand up or move around.

GoingFullNorman · 18/03/2021 09:29

Yes, PE/games happening as per usual timetable. Sports/team practices are also happening after school/weekends.

Art/textiles is happening. DT not an option. Food tech practicals they are asked to complete at home. Science practicals are reduced due to lab time rota.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 18/03/2021 09:31

PE outdoors twice a week (go in in PE kit so no changing).

Youngest in year 7 so all other lessons in same class and therefore more theory based. Though does drawing/colouring in art/DT.
Middle one is in year 10 and doing DT GCSE so they are doing some practical stuff, will be full on after Easter as the have to start their projects which are 50% of the exam mark.

middleager · 18/03/2021 09:33

Yes to both. My one son is also doing an after school sports club.

They both wear their kits to school.

IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 18/03/2021 09:33

A sitting down lunch too. Not allowed to stand up or move around.

That actually sound better than kids expected to eat standing up outside which is happening in every school I know of. My daughter now doesn’t eat at school because of it so has lunch at 4pm when she gets home. Not ideal.

DumplingsAndStew · 18/03/2021 09:35

No, PE here is just walking outdoors at the moment. Kids to wear uniform and practical shoes for walking, and weather appropriate jacket if needed.

But kids are mostly still only in one day a week at present.

ekidmxcl · 18/03/2021 09:36

Yes physical PE, must go in wearing kit though, no changing allowed. And it is done outdoors.

Hersetta427 · 18/03/2021 09:36

Yes. DD has PE today so went in in her PE kit. She also does after school Hockey on a Monday and Netball on a Wednesday so she wore PE kit to school those days as well.

Her school is doing DT (they rotate between textiles, Food Tec and product design). Not sure huge amount of practical work will be ongoing in her current rotation of product design. We shall see.

Januaryissodull · 18/03/2021 09:37

Yes I've heard about the lunches. Pupils being made to stand outside to eat in all weather.

At our school they seem to be allowed to sit inside or out, they're just not allowed to move.

It's the lack of PE that's bothering me. It seems completely irrational.

OP posts:
LunchWithAGruffalo · 18/03/2021 09:38

Ours have been doing outdoor only. If the weather is too bad for that, then they use the sports hall, but mostly theory as it's not beg enough to space out the groups for more active lessons.

initially they had to come in in PE kit, but this term the changing rooms are open.

I'm not sure what's happening with practical subjects lower down the school, but exam year groups are certainly doing them. In fact DD has assessed practicals for most of the next few weeks as they were not able to do any over home learning.

Januaryissodull · 18/03/2021 09:40

Would anyone be concerned about missing PE or raise?

I don't want to get myself a reputation as a complainer when they've only just gone back. Hopeful they might resume PE after Easter.

OP posts:
Januaryissodull · 18/03/2021 09:40

Meant to say raise it.

OP posts:
treeeeemendous · 18/03/2021 09:46

Yes all happening as normal for both of mine. Just wearing pe kit to school on the days of lessons/clubs.

IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 18/03/2021 09:48

Would anyone be concerned about missing PE or raise?

I wouldn’t be concerned but there’s no harm in asking why it’s not possible to do it and when they may start doing it again. You don’t have to be confrontational, just query it as you know other schools are managing to do it.

beenrumbled · 18/03/2021 09:53

DS goes to school in PE kit and does normal PE on PE days.

He is doing woodtech and they are having some practicals too.

palacegirl77 · 18/03/2021 09:55

Daughter (y7) had pe yesterday. 1 hour outdoor football, 1 hour indoor trampolining. Had to go in PE kit and wear all day. Doing all practical subjects too including using equipment in DT.

Scarby9 · 18/03/2021 09:55

Yes - and they have done all the way through, outside. Tennis, athletics type activities, HIT. Not contact sports.

They have also done music throughout, although with no singing until recently except in remote lessons. Now they are back singing in small groups, either outdoors or socially distanced towards windows.

Two of the other secondaries near us have had no PE or any practical music all year. The kids go for a walk round the local are in PE time and watch videos in music.
