Any other asthmatics been offered the jab yet?

I got a text from my surgery and it has allowed me to book my jab for a weeks time. I tried the main link for the NHS and it wouldn't allow me to book there. I take steroids via inhaler, but my asthma isn't particularly bad, is under control, never been hospitalised in my adult years ( I'm 40.) i don't usually get offered a flu jab, although did this year as they extended it I believe. I was quite surprised to get the jab offer, as thought my area was quite behind on vaccines.

I have asthma but didn't think I was group 6 as is well controlled these days and I had the vaccination over a month ago. I wasn't expecting it but I know lots of people with non serious long term conditions who have had it in my area. My area is doing well with vaccine rollout though.

WaverleyPirate · 15/03/2021 15:08

Two adult children with similar asthma meds. They live in different areas.

One got put into group 6 and the other didn't!

emmathedilemma · 15/03/2021 15:21

No, and I don't expect one until my age group. I have a steroid inhaler on prescription but rarely use it and i'd describe my asthma as mild. My inhalers are often out of date when i actually come to use them!

itsadoddle · 15/03/2021 15:29

@emmathedilemma a steroid should be taken daily to prevent the need for a reliever inhaler. I never need to take my blue inhaler as my asthma is controlled. So maybe your asthma is very mild if you aren't taking the steroids and doing ok?

I have asthma controlled with a steroid inhaler, and always get offered the flu jab but haven’t been offered a Covid vaccine, from what I have seen posted by GPs locally they are sticking to the official guidance of hospitalisation or three courses of steroids.

MrsM36 · 15/03/2021 15:36

Yes I had mine on Saturday, my Asthma is very well controlled using a steroid inhaler, so I was surprised when I was able to book online (was actually trying to prove to my Mum that I wasn't eligible yet when it let me book it). My text telling me I was eligible came through on Saturday morning as I was waiting at the vaccination centre.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 15/03/2021 15:39

My friend has, she has it pretty bad though

Turnedouttoes · 15/03/2021 15:39

My sister sounds exactly like you and she just had her text through this morning.

feistyoneyouare · 15/03/2021 15:45

I had mine 10 days ago. Early 50s.

Womencanlift · 15/03/2021 15:49

Yes I had it about a month ago. Same age as you and only hospitalised once about 20 years ago.

I thought all asthmatics got offered the flu jab? I have always been offered it and my asthma is mild and controlled these days

Pepper54 · 15/03/2021 15:51

My DS and DH both asthmatics and get flu jab every year (NHS), one got first jab 3 weeks ago and one got first jab 2 weeks ago. Different parts of England. Different GP s obviously, both group 6. Neither have been hospitalised for asthma but are strict at taking their inhalers daily etc.

WaverleyPirate · 15/03/2021 15:58

Both of my adult children get the flu jab, so I think it depends on the GP.

Eccle80 · 15/03/2021 15:58

@Womencanlift I think it is only asthmatics with steroid inhalers who are eligible for the flu jab, not those who are very mild and only have ventolin

Tish008 · 15/03/2021 16:01

I haven't been called, I use daily inhaler steroids on a heavy dose. But my doctors are utterly useless.

TheABC · 15/03/2021 16:07

I was called for mine two weeks ago (40). However, we are in a "young" area and my GP's surgery is very switched on.

emmathedilemma · 15/03/2021 16:43

@itsadoddle i rarely take my blue one either! I had one bad flare up a couple of years who when I ended up on anti-biotics for a week and then steroid tables for a week, was taking my brown inhaler twice and blue one 4 times a day, and that's the only time i've ever really taken them regularly. I've always been eligible for a free flu jab.

Watsername · 15/03/2021 16:50

I had my jab on Friday. I take a combi inhaler daily and blue inhaler when needed (and am in the flu jab group). I wasn’t expecting to be called in group 6, but I think our doctors locally are taking the side of caution and calling most asthmatics, not just ‘severe’.

EightToSixer · 15/03/2021 16:52

I had my jab today. I take a steroid inhaler every day but the asthma has been well controlled unless I get a cold when it invariably turns into a chest infection for the last 20 or so years. I also think I’m on Group 6 due to my weight so I’m not sure if it was that or asthma that contributed to my call up. I’m just very glad I’ve had it.

APurpleSquirrel · 15/03/2021 17:03

I had mine on Saturday, am 41, have very mild controlled asthma (have Qvar & Ventolin) but only use them if I get ill. Don't need them on a daily basis. I do get the flu jab every year though & am in South West which seems to be ahead in vaccinations atm.

MsAnnFrope · 15/03/2021 17:20

I’ve had mine, 40 and have steroid inhalers. Others who are as asthmatic as me in our town haven’t been called yet so I wonder if it depends on GP surgery?

MumsThewordw02 · 15/03/2021 17:24
  1. Controlled by inhalers only. was called and jabbed about 3 weeks ago. I was thrilled!
GingerandTilly · 15/03/2021 17:29

I’ve had mine. 42 and have twice daily steroid inhalers. Was called by doctor and had assumed I’d maybe got it as I’m a carer for my elderly mum but then I got a text invite too and it said it was due to my health condition and the only thing I’ve got is asthma. I’m relieved as am a teacher.

WithASpider · 15/03/2021 17:36

DD is 17 and had her first jab last week. She has mild asthma. Her 39yo uncle lives 10 mins away under a different district, has severe asthma and hasn't been called yet.

TheSpanishApartment · 15/03/2021 17:39

Yes husband and I have both had it - he was a few weeks before me but we think they have been calling people alphabetically (his surname is way ahead of mine in the alphabet ad he is younger than me). Mine was on Saturday. We are both in our 40s.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 15/03/2021 17:42

Nope. 45. My asthma is well controlled but I am on a steroid inhaler (+ ventolin) which I would be in trouble without. I know younger people than me have been offered the jab, feel forgotten to be honest.
