Batch number not written on vaccination card

DH had his AZ vaccine yesterday and was given a card, listing the dates of his 1st and 2nd appointments. There was also space to write the batch number of his vaccine, but it wasn't filled in by whoever administered the jab. Is this information relatively unimportant (for us) or should we try to find out for our record keeping?

I wouldn't have thought that it matters as long as the NHS has the details? Incidentally, if you have the NHS app (the one that records what medications you're on etc), your vaccinations will show up there a few days later, which means that if you lose your little card you've still got proof that you've had your jabs.

Cookerhood · 14/03/2021 14:37

It will be on the NHS computer records.

Thanks both

When you get your second dose they can check and fill it on if you ask, but it is not vital for you to know. It’s a belt and braces thing - IF there is a problem with a batch they will track everyone through NHS system but can also do a public announcement e.g. “check your card and contact GP if you had xxx”. Like car recalls - the garage should know who they sold cars to but if there is a known fault they do an announcement/newspaper advert to catch anyone that may be missed.

I'm a vaccinator. Here in Scotland we don't routinely give patients a copy of their batch number, but it's recorded on their records ( using the TURA app), and is there if required for any reason.
I think the only reason it would be important is in the very rare likelihood that there was a problem with a batch

FlyingBurrito · 14/03/2021 16:24

As long as it's recorded on the system writing it on a card for everyone would slow everything down surely, I'm imaging a batch number has a lot of characters, for no useful purpose

I wonder how many people will still have their cards when they go for their 2nd jab?

bigbluebus · 14/03/2021 16:44

@FlyingBurrito - I wondered that too especially after I found one on the pavement outside our local vaccination centre!

giletrouge · 14/03/2021 17:12

On my card the batch no is not particularly long - it's AB0013, if you're interested!
I can't see not having it is a problem.

I'm hanging on to my card though, will people really be careless with them? Ok I guess some people will. Seems like it could be useful to have on me. Although obviously not actual proof of anything.

oneglassandpuzzled · 14/03/2021 17:13

Is it on a little white label?

Cookerhood · 14/03/2021 17:41

I've put mine in a Safe Place. Whether I will remember where that Safe Place is in May is another matter Grin

Dbwoshem · 14/03/2021 17:51

Does anyone know where it shows your vaccination on the NHS app? I've set mine up but the app is useless. It shows me nothing about anything and says I don't have access to my medical records

Cookerhood · 14/03/2021 18:09

Mine too. I yhinky it's something to do with permissions granted by your GP practice. My friend has full access to hers, I have nothing.

LIZS · 14/03/2021 18:10

Is there a sticky label?

SusannahSophia · 14/03/2021 18:19

Can’t see anything about vaccinations on my NHS app. The batch number was hand written on my card. Interestingly the same batch number as a friend in Hampshire and a friend in Wales. Must be a very large batch!

Flaxmeadow · 14/03/2021 20:46

We didn't get any card or leaflet after the vaccination. Nothing given out at all, just told to leave straight away

Cookerhood · 14/03/2021 20:55

That's wrong, they are supposed to give you the card & package insert.

Frogartist · 14/03/2021 20:59

They always write it in the Red Book when my children have had their vaccinations, so presumably it is important. I would expect them to write it on the card they gave you.

lovingmyppe · 14/03/2021 21:34

I don't really get why folk are concerned about this? It's not a thing. You don't normally get told batch numbers when you get flu vaccines for instance. It's only important if there's a problem with the actual batch, such as leakage, or particles or an adverse reaction. It's recorded in your medical records so can be accessed easily if required.
Not really any need for the patients to keep hold of it

It did feel a bit odd but I know others who had the vaccine (AZ) at the same place and got nothing as well.

It was a very large GP/medical centre. We waited in batches in a corridor. Asked our names for the computer and if we had ever used an epi pen or had any allergies. Told it was the AZ vaccine we would be having. Then went in, had vaccine and left straight away from a side door.

I'm not overly worried about it, it seemed well run and very clean, but we had no card or anything at all, not even a leaflet, given to us.

morningperson · 15/03/2021 06:57

I have a batch number on mine and I had the Pfizer last week.

joanna67 · 15/03/2021 07:04

I've just looked on the Patient Access app and my vaccine date and batch details are on there.

My friend is a volunteer at a vaccination centre and she says having the card or the info on it isn't important.

DumplingsAndStew · 15/03/2021 07:14

I didn't even get a card, many people didn't.

Not even sure which vaccine I got, AZ I assume as it was at the GP surgery.

oneglassandpuzzled · 15/03/2021 09:27

This is what the label looks like.

giletrouge · 15/03/2021 09:56

Not on a sticky label. However, my name is on a sticky label on the other side. No idea why sticky labels are so interesting!

oneglassandpuzzled · 15/03/2021 12:04

Because that’s where the batch numbers are, rather than being written on the card by hand?
