Is anyone pregnant after vaccination can you reassure me ?

I’m worried because of all the scare stories about fertility
Please can I have some reassurance ?
I have anxiety so I’ve read a few official things with facts but is there anyone who is actually pregnant after the vaccination?

I have waited to see if anyone else would reply to this post.

I am not surprised no one did, as there is not a definite answer to it.
I am not pregnant myself after having the vaccination.

I have heard that AZ are monitoring pregnant women who have had the vaccination, but that could just be heresay.

Circumlocutious · 10/03/2021 09:53

I think 25 women who were enrolled onto the Pfizer trial got pregnant shortly afterwards? No miscarriages in that group either.

worriesabout · 10/03/2021 09:57

I just am worried but I want to stress I know the importance of being vaccinated and I do want to but it’s hard not to let these things get into your mind and cause doubt.

I’ve read the official info re ‘no evidence it causes fertility issues’ but I feel there is little evidence either way as it’s so new so I was hoping if I had some real life accounts then that is actually more reliable ? If that makes sense

Yes I know what you mean I was just hoping there might be a few on here who have had it and become pregnant after

That’s reassuring I’ll have to try and look that up

Sorry, but why and how would it cause fertility issues? It's an inactivated bit of virus.
This is a genuine question, I don't understand how there can be any link.

I don’t know but I’ve seen it so much on SM being of an anxious disposition I thought I’d ask - and having some actual real experiences not just ‘there’s no evidence’ studies would make me feel reassured

Are there studies for the Oxford one too like the Pfizer mentioned above ?

It’s recommended that you wait until you have had your 2nd dose of vaccine before getting pregnant so many women who have had the vaccine are probably waiting until after their 2nd dose before trying.
There is no reason why it will effect fertility but they had to say that they don’t know because they didn’t test the vaccine in people who are pregnant (as with most drugs) they will gather more evidence as more and more younger women are vaccinated and then get pregnant.

worriesabout · 10/03/2021 10:22

Maybe I’ve asked the wrong question. Perhaps I should have also asked if anyone has had covid and got pregnant after ?
Would the virus itself be more detrimental to overall health and fertility ?

You could start a 2nd thread?
And link to this one if you wanted to?

Yes I have but unsure how to link

Once I find your thread, I can link it if you want me to.

Found it, and linked this one onto it.

Professor Jonathan van Tam was asked about the effects of vaccines on fertility, months ago. A precis of his answer:

  • women who were pregnant and ttc were excluded from the trials
  • nevertheless, some trial participants have become pregnant
  • they are being closely monitored and as yet we have seen nothing to cause concern

I realise this may not be enough to reassure you, OP, but it makes perfect sense. While the effect on fertility/unborn babies is unknown, you don't deliberately give a new drug in a trial.

However, the inferences which can be drawn from those who did become pregnant is 1) it doesn't make it impossible for you to conceive; 2) no impact on miscarriage/birth defects, as far as they could tell at the point at which JVT said that.

Of course with such a small number, it is not yet possible to quantify - maybe there is an effect, but so small it was not detectable in the trial group. However, the royal colleges of obstetricians and midwives have put out statements saying that they do not believe the vaccine will have any effect on fertility, because they can see no biological mechanism by which it would and there is absolutely no real world data to suggest that it does.

notrub · 10/03/2021 11:40

Firstly, a vaccine is NOT like a drug.
When you take a drug, the purpose of the drug is to hang around in your system long enough to do some good - something you usually accomplish by multiple doses.

A vaccine is a target shown to your immune system. It is almost immediately gone from the body - the side effects you experience sometimes are not the body's continual reaction to the vaccine, but your own immune system.

So, leaving aside trying to get pregnant during the brief (

Twizbe · 10/03/2021 11:42

I'm sure I saw a doctor the other day say that there isn't a way that the vaccine could impact on fertility.

Incidentally, I hope not to have caused concern by stating the risks of covid itself. I'm trying to show the RELATIVE risks, not the absolute ones.

So far, as most pregnant women are in the younger age groups, most experience mild infections, but symptoms tend to linger for longer - risk of long-covid appears higher, but so far, no reports of any miscarriages due to the virus.

doireallyneedaname · 10/03/2021 14:41

There was pregnancy in Pfizer trial participants following the trials.

I’ve also seen a few women on other forums get pregnant in between first and second dose and questioning whether they should go ahead with the 2nd.

There is no evidence to suggest it can affect fertility and if it did then that would suggest Covid would be affecting fertility too.

The conspiracy theory started because the government has to state the impact on fertility was “unknown” but that was simply because it had not been tested for that. All experts agree there is no reason this could affect fertility.

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 10/03/2021 14:44

There's probably more harmful shite in a pepperami snack or breathing in the city air than in the vaccine.

That was supposed to reassure you! Hope you can stop worrying about this and enjoy your pregnancy.

lightand · 10/03/2021 15:01

From the link I posted upthread from Oxford Uni re giving their vaccine to women who are pregnant
"However, there isn’t yet enough data to say that they should be given in pregnancy"

I would take that any day of the week over non medical MNetters advice, no matter how well meaning it is.

Porcupineintherough · 10/03/2021 15:04

OP there is emerging evidence that coronavirus infection can cause more problems than originally thought in pregnancy. I would strongly recommend anyone thinking of pregnancy to get vaccinated first if they possibly can.

worriesabout · 10/03/2021 15:19

Thankyou this is reassuring. I just get so over anxious and felt like I needed to hear some real life accounts as well as reading the official stuff
