Did you need to go into hospital ?

I have health anxiety and I’m trying to work out if it’s common for women in their 30s to get that ill with covid that they need hospital ?
I’m currently breastfeeding my baby so worry about being separated but my family said I’m worrying over nothing that ‘nobody your age would need hospital !’
Are they right ? I feel quite stressed

I’m 40 and asthmatic and I’ve had covid. I didn’t need to go to hospital but was wiped out for about 3 weeks and really tired. I had headache, tickly cough (only for about 2/3 days) no fever at all. Totally fine now.
My husband and son both had it and they are fine now too. Son only just sneezed a few times.
I know many, many other ranging from mid 30’s to early 70’s that have had it and only one person I know had to go to be seen and that was for a secondary chest infection after covid that cleared up with antibiotics.

Dingleydel · 08/03/2021 19:44

I barely had any symptoms. If my dh hadn’t been poorly I wouldn’t have known I’d had Covid at all, apart from losing my taste and smell for a few days about a week in. The worst part by far for my was the worry, thinking I might take a turn for the worst every day. Luckily not. It’s quite a weird thing to finally have it after so long worrying about what symptoms you’ll get. No symptoms for dc either.

ThreeAnd · 08/03/2021 19:49

Thankyou I’m just so worried. I know I won’t get a vaccine for a while yet and with dc back at school in so so anxious In case I got ill and had to go to hospital

I am 32 and had Covid before Christmas. I had a variety of symptoms, mainly sore throat and tiredness. Lost sense of smell and taste but overall it wasn’t really worse than the flu. I was fully recovered within a week. My husband also got it and was also fully recovered within the week.

ElderMillennial · 08/03/2021 19:57

A friend aged 36 was in hospital with covid and pneumonia, no underlying health problems that I'm aware of, so it can happen but it's unlikely.

Camomila · 08/03/2021 19:58

I probably had it back in March...I spent two weeks in bed and was short of breath for a few days but I didn't need to go to hospital. I was the worse effected of people I know my age l, but I think its because I had an 8 week old and was rundown.

(If you are worried about feeding the baby, I managed to keep breastfeeding through out...DH just bought the baby to me. He did catch it too but just coughed a bit for a couple of days and was fine afterward).

doctorhamster · 08/03/2021 20:00

I'm 40, fat and asthmatic and didn't end up in hospital.

PolytheneHam · 08/03/2021 20:02

I'm 35 and obese and didn't come close to needing to be in hospital (unless you count when I was at work - I caught it on the ward)

Flambola · 08/03/2021 20:02

No. 35, cv.

Out of action for approx 3 weeks though.

SpiceRat · 08/03/2021 20:03

I haven’t had it but a friend had it. 33, overweight but no other underlying health issues. And barely knew she was ill, a few days with a “cold” and then back to normal.

CheesePleaseLoueese · 08/03/2021 20:04

39 and no known health issues. I was asymptomatic.

SpiceRat · 08/03/2021 20:05

Oh actually another friend has had it too. 30, thin and in good shape. Wiped her and her partner out for a few days, felt sluggish, cotton wool head and dizzy for a few weeks.

HavelockVetinari · 08/03/2021 20:07

I'm 36 with severe asthma (I've nearly died from it in the past). I had covid last year - I felt quite shit for a week, and was breathless for about 6 weeks after that, but was able to work and look after my 3-year-old.

firstimemamma · 08/03/2021 20:07

My friend had it at 35 and was very mildly affected by it. She had a few symptoms for a few days. My friend's 87 year old grandad with dementia and other health issues was exactly the same.

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 08/03/2021 20:10

I had it a week after my vaccine. I don't have underlying medical issues but managed to get a vaccine aged 36. Had the vaccine on the Monday then the Saturday very suddenly had a cold, runny nose, sneezing, felt a bit chilly. Rested Saturday /Sunday Sunday night realised I couldn't smell. Took test and the Monday I was told I had covid. During my 10 days off, I didn't take any pain mess was generally OK a little lethargic, but was able to do usual activities I boxed up to move etc. If I hadn't realised I couldn't smell I very provably could have been at work as I didn't feel unable to work just felt a bit sorry for myself at times.

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 08/03/2021 20:11

Oh and I'm over weight havent exercised for a while and would rather have a pot of pringles than a salad.

carolinesbaby · 08/03/2021 20:15

No.
I felt pretty rough for 5-6 days, and a bit under the weather for a further 10 days or so (would have gone back to work by day 4 with any other illness).
Then I got a secondary infection and had to take a further week off work.
Nowhere near hospital though, and the actual Covid wasn't much worse than a bad head cold.

Kylorey · 08/03/2021 20:19

I'm 31 and just felt a bit shit for a couple of weeks. Nowhere near ill enough to need any medical help and not the worst I've ever felt.

I did buy a pulse oximeter and kept an eye on my temperature, which was reassuring.

Bolshybun · 08/03/2021 20:22

I am 39 and had covid last October, my husband is 43 and also had it. We were fine. Both started with blocked noses and my husbands cough was more like he was constantly clearing his throat, he was fine. I felt quite tired for 3-4 days with headaches but never felt concerned. I felt warm with a slight temp for one day. The worst thing was losing my taste and smell, which took 8 weeks to return.

Acovic · 08/03/2021 20:26

I'm in my 40s but my sister is 35. We both had covid in January.

Neither of us went to hospital.

Unwell for a few days with a temperature, then tired. Residual breathlessness for a couple of weeks.

I felt back to normal by late February.

Sparechange · 08/03/2021 20:30

Had it aged 38
Other thank losing my sense of smell and taste for 10 days, I just had a mild headache and croaky voice for 36 hours

I’ve felt worse after drinking cornershop wine than I did when I had covid...

Most of my 30something mum friends have had it because it ripped through nursery
No one had anything worse than I did, bar one friend who had 2 days in bed and was then pretty much back to normal

greensnail · 08/03/2021 20:32

I'm 39, I had it last year. I was unwell for about 3 weeks, sense of smell took a long time to return but didn't need hospital at any point. Many of my friends and colleagues have had it, none of us in our thirties needed to go to hospital.

SaborDeSoledad · 08/03/2021 20:36

There are always exceptions but my covid symptoms wouldn't have stopped me doing any of my usual activities in normal times. I felt a bit off, that's all. I didn't even need paracetamol.

ThreeAnd · 08/03/2021 20:37

Thankyou I feel a bit more reassured now. It’s just been making me so anxious
