Did you need to go into hospital ?

I have health anxiety and I’m trying to work out if it’s common for women in their 30s to get that ill with covid that they need hospital ?
I’m currently breastfeeding my baby so worry about being separated but my family said I’m worrying over nothing that ‘nobody your age would need hospital !’
Are they right ? I feel quite stressed

Haven’t had it (that I know of) but am 32 so lots of friends of same age have had it ranging from super fit and healthy to obese with asthma and all of them have had nothing more than aches and pains and a very mild cough. 2 of these had 3-6 month old babies at the time and the babies showed no signs of having Covid. I am not in the slightest bit worried about catching it due to my age, fitness level, BMI of 20 and no other health conditions.

ijustdontknowwhy · 08/03/2021 21:00

My dad had it. He's mid 60s and has suffered from non hospitalised pneumonia the last few winters, just from a cold. He had covid and no issues at all. It didn't develop into pneumonia like his other recent colds have !!

HolmeH · 08/03/2021 21:07

I’m 33 & I’ve had worse colds. In normal times, I’d have been out & about as normal but complaining I felt pretty rubbish! I consider myself pretty fit & healthy. I exercise 4 times a week, I have a BMI of 20, I eat healthily & sensibly.. that said, I have two young children one of whom is 11 months. I was at the time incredibly sleep deprived & felt really run down. In fact, when I first felt a bit warm I thought it was just cos I was knackered. I was in IKEA looking at fake plants when I suddenly burnt up & felt really hot! I thought it was a bit strange but I did have a heavy trolley they wouldn’t steer & my baby was faffing, we’d not slept much the night before & it was all a bit stressful so dismissed it. Happened again when I got home and I walked up the stairs. But no fever on the thermometer.. I just felt warm! Next day I had a fairly bad headache so got myself tested just to be on the safe side. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My OH is also 33, he had even less symptoms. Minor cold.

louisejxxx · 08/03/2021 21:09

I’m 31 and asthmatic, had covid over Feb half term. I had quite an array of symptoms but wasn’t seriously ill with it, nowhere near needing hospitalisation.

Chimboo · 08/03/2021 21:10

35, had it and felt rough with fever and aches and pains for about 48 hours. After that it just felt like a cold without the stuffy nose tbh. 42 year old husband was fine, more annoyed he couldn’t taste beer for a week 😂 🙄

Looneytune253 · 08/03/2021 21:11

I'm 38 overweight and asthmatic and I was fine. Heavy cold and that was it. Poorly for about 24 hours. Sense of taste and smell lasted a bit longer tho

Pumpkinpops · 08/03/2021 21:13

I am in my 30s and had it over Christmas. I also suffer with anxiety and found the psychological aspect harder than the actual symptoms (i.e. the worry that I'd end up in hospital - am also breastfeeding a little one too!). I'd strongly advise you to get an oximeter, this really helped me as it was so reassuring to know that my oxygen saturation was completely unaffected by the virus. I bought it from Amazon.

DigitalGhost · 08/03/2021 21:33

31 & had it when 38 week pregnant. Just lost my sense of smell and taste no other symptoms. This was 11 months ago & my smell still isn't right.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/03/2021 21:36

I haven't had it but I personally know about 30 people who have had it and no one went into hospital, this includes people in their 60s and overweight.

iammeiamme · 08/03/2021 21:41

I'm a 35 year old woman, I have covid just after Christmas, I was exhausted for about three or four weeks but other than that I'd say it felt as though I just had a bad cold.

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe1 · 08/03/2021 21:41

I did but only for a check up in majors because it exacerbated an existing condition. The only people I know who were severely affected were over 50.

PapercraftNinja · 08/03/2021 21:44

Tested positive in October and was alright really, aches, no temp but massive headache. Not hospitalised abs still managed to look after DC while we all isolated

Apple1971 · 08/03/2021 21:46

I’m late 40’s and have asthma and had covid just before Christmas. Made me very tired for a few weeks but I coped ok and fine now except some weird taste / smell issues x

HexWitch · 08/03/2021 21:48

Early forties, was no worse than a cold and sore throat. The most annoying bit was the loss of taste and smell. Was able to carry on working and caring for DC no problem.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 08/03/2021 21:49

33, asthmatic and had very mild symptoms. I was so anxious about getting it as have had pneumonia in the past, so was extremely relieved to only suffer a mild dose.

yahyahs22 · 08/03/2021 21:50

I was fine and breastfeeding. Baby got it too and he was even better than me, like a cold

notrub · 08/03/2021 21:56

Yeah - unless you are asthmatic or diabetic it's extremely unlikely.

I know someone that age who had SOME breathing problems for about 2 months, but never needed hospital - in fact she had to continue showing up for work!

AnaisNun · 08/03/2021 22:08

I’m early 30s, had “GP diagnosed” covid early in the pandemic (tests not available at that point, but my symptoms were textbook and I’ve since had query? long covid).

Didn’t have to go to hospital. Was poorly for about a month, particularly shitty feeling for a week. Kept working from home throughout because it was absolute mayhem due to the virus but really, really shouldn’t have.

Have had lingering fatigue and some random other symptoms for nearly eleven months now- but that might be a red herring as am now being tested for celiac disease. Doctor has muttered about long covid amidst all the other possibilities, but no way to tell, and there never will be.

But! I’ve been upright and able to look after my 4 year old throughout, so take heart!

AnaisNun · 08/03/2021 22:09

Oh yes- and kiddo seemed to have symptoms at the same time as me, but it was less severe than many of the colds he’s had in his case!

sunnydaleslayer · 08/03/2021 22:11

I'm 35. No hospital needed, in fact it didn't affect my breathing at all.

I did feel rough I won't lie. Worst part was the headaches and endless fatigue. BUT... it was no worse than a bad cold really, just lingered a bit longer.

itssquidstella · 08/03/2021 22:14

No, i had it in March. Felt a bit rough for a few days and had anosmia for about ten days.

rhowton · 08/03/2021 22:29

I was unwell (couldn't leave my bed) for 24 hours and then was fine. Lost my sense of smell about 3 days later and had a temperature for about 4 months afterwards. I still get headaches which I didn't have before.

Lnix · 08/03/2021 22:33

I had it March, aged 34 and also 7 weeks pregnant. Aside from the initial few days of fever, I had about 4 weeks with a cough and loss of sense of taste/smell and fatigue. Overall rather unremarkable and really no worse than other viruses I've had. My husband aged 35 also had it, and my mum aged 62. None of us even rang the GP never mind went to hospital. I also suffer from health anxiety - it's hard work. Hope you're ok!! X

MrsBotibolsCruise · 08/03/2021 22:40

I’m 35 and had it in December. Felt under the weather for ten days before the positive test, a bit fluey for four days, then better. It really wasn’t that bad and the only bout of flu I’ve ever had was much worse. I had a four month old and a toddler and was able to carry on mostly as normal.

BonesJones · 08/03/2021 22:43
  1. Have had pneumonia and pleurisy in the past. Had COVID in November, and apart from a cracking headache at the base of my neck, bit of a stuffy nose for a day or so, and feeling extremely wiped out, the week of what I call 'active illness' was fine, no cough, no loss of taste/smell, none of the classic symptoms really apart from fatigue. Spent it more or less entirely in bed but I've felt worse off a bad cold. However it did leave me totally wiped for several weeks after. Really truly exhausted. I managed a 20 min very gently yoga sesh about a month later and spent the following day in bed. But it did get gradually better and I'm absolutely fine now. Back to lifting weights and running around, although I have noticed I still need more sleep at night that I typically did pre covid.
