I had my first AstraZeneca vaccination on Friday. I have had absolutely no side effects, not even a sore arm!!

Should I be worried it’s not going to work??!! I so stressed about everything!!!

No, you shouldn’t. Despite all you hear on MN, the majority of people have no side effects at all. It bears no relation to how effective it will be. Source: Zoe Symptom Tracker app research.

I don't think so?

Someone at work told me that it's 1 in 10 who get side effects.

I don't know if that's true or if a sore arm counts as a side effect but it would certainly suggest it's not everybody.

WhenEnoughIsEnough · 08/03/2021 18:25

I had mine yesterday, astrazeneca, other than my arm being a bit sore (which I always get after any injection or blood test ect) I feel fine

Wannabangbang · 08/03/2021 18:25

Nope don't be worried some people have no symptoms. Or it might be it starts later on, my sore arm started days later but that's all i had and sleepiness.

Pixilulu · 08/03/2021 18:31

Thanks, I feel better now x 😀

Dh had his friday no side effects

Expectingsomethingwonderful · 08/03/2021 18:36

The nurse I spoke to before I had the jab suggested that anecdotal data was suggesting that people who have had Covid were more likely to react to the jab, particularly if they were in a younger age group, because their system recognises the virus and attacks it. Sounds logical to me. I have had covid and did react to the vaccine with flu-like symptoms and a sore arm for about 36 hours. I'm fine now. Maybe you will react more to the second jab.

This is surely completely illogical though? Otherwise you would get more and more unwell with each vaccine - and then contracting covid again would leave you floored? The aim is for your body to recognise it and clear it with zero fuss.

Expectingsomethingwonderful · 08/03/2021 19:02

@raviolidreaming I always thought that a fever and raised temperature was a result of your body fighting an infection - hence the whole school of thought that suggests you shouldn't be too quick to reach for the aspirin?

Mumof3andlovingit · 08/03/2021 19:24

My parents had the Oxford vaccine and had zero side effects.
Me and DH had Pfizer and zero side effects too.

Janetatone · 08/03/2021 19:31

Nobody I know has had any side effects to the vaccine. I think you only hear people complaining about them if they get them, otherwise they forget next day.

Fallsballs · 08/03/2021 20:34

My mum had hers and not even a sore arm, all her friends in the same age group were the same apart from one had a slightly sore arm. No other side effects at all.

raviolidreaming · 08/03/2021 21:30

Expectingsomethingwonderful yes, if you don't have any immunity from previous exposure or vaccine and need to build an immune response.

(I can't comment about aspirin - never heard advice to take it or not take it!)

raviolidreaming · 08/03/2021 21:32

Not to say either is fact or true though. But anecdotes are just that: anecdotes.

SausagePourHomme · 08/03/2021 21:35

i felt terrible after mine for a few days. I don't think I've had covid before either. I am very overweight at the moment though, I'm wondering if that's a factor.

GintyMcGinty · 08/03/2021 21:38

Most people will have no side effects or nothing noticeable.

I had mine last week and no side effects for me.

Frozenintime · 08/03/2021 21:43

I had mine last Thursday and have been feeling rubbish ever since. I am 49, healthy weight etc.

cataclysmiclife · 08/03/2021 21:51

Weirdly I felt even better when I got mine - AZ vaccine. Not had a single side effect apart from a very slightly sore arm

FromDespairToHere · 08/03/2021 21:55

I felt very poorly after mine, high temperature and aching all over us a loss of appetite which is an uncommon side effect. DP had no symptoms and was in fact slightly worried that they'd not injected him!

Purplewithred · 08/03/2021 21:58

Zoe app says 1/6 had side effects. I think those of us that did were a bit surprised and enjoyed moaning about them/sharing how rubbish we’d felt (I know I did). You’re in the majority.

notrub · 08/03/2021 22:15

That's bonkers.

The elevated temperature is your immune system raising your body's temperature because evolution has taught it to do that - It's trying to create a more inhospitable environment for the intruder.

Unfortunately your immune system has lots of really bad ideas that are frequently more damaging than the infection. High temp is one of them, you can die from a high temperature - that's your immune system killing you.

PuzzledObserver · 08/03/2021 22:39

I had Pfizer, about six weeks after testing positive for Covid.

I had slight tenderness at the injection site for a few days from the evening of the jab, and from the following day a gradually expanding red patch which eventually revealed a bruise underneath. The vaccinator did comment “it’s bleeding on me.” Took about a week to fade.

That’s the luck of the draw. I have to give myself a weekly subcutaneous injection - mostly it’s fine, once in a while I get a little drop of blood, I guess I’ve nicked a blood vessel.

For the next couple of days I had a bit of a background headache.... or did I? I mean, I couldn’t decide whether I really had a headache or not, so if I did, it was very slight. And I was a bit tired in the evening.

That’s it. And I know loads of people who have had both Pfizer and AZ. A few sore arms, one couple felt “a bit off” after their second dose. Most people - no complaints at all.

MonochromeMinnie · 08/03/2021 22:41

Should I be worried I've had no side effects? Bloody hell. Just count yourself lucky.

Wherediditgo · 09/03/2021 07:21

This thread has made me feel better about vaccine side effects.
The others I’ve read on here had me feeling like the side effects are worse than catching actual Covid (if you’re young and non CV)

HarrietOh · 09/03/2021 07:46

Completely anecdotally but all my friends in their 30s who’ve had it had fevers, racing heart and aches overnight. Everyone I know older than that age group has had no side effects.
It completely depends on the person and how your immune response is.
