….. but I've just had the nicest day in months.
Drove to meet a friend, two and a half hour walk though the park, stopped for a coffee and a cheese toastie while we were there - and just chatted for a couple of hours, all socially distant.
We speak on the phone regularly, but phone conversations are generally more specific than general chat.
I did go into the house before I drove home, to use the loo, and we had a cup of tea in the garden (the illegal bit) - but sooo worth it. (and we've both been vaccinated).
Feel so much happier and lighthearted.

Anyone else done anything really enjoyable recently?

Yes... today actually. Arranged to meet a friend I had not seen in a year for a coffee. She brought along her husband and teenage daughter. We got a Costa and all sat on a bench for an hour. It was so lovely. I would normally gush about stuff like that on my FB but it was technically illegal.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 06/03/2021 21:25

It's amazing how much difference tiny things that a year ago would have been 'everyday stuff' can make😊
Good to know I wasn't the only one enjoying a technically illegal day!

Glad to hear it Smile

It's nice to hear you've had a good day, but do you really need to post about rule breaking on here?

The only thing it will lead to is one side ripping you for breaking restrictions and the other side suggesting we should all go around and lick one another's face now as it's been too long.

Acesulfame · 06/03/2021 22:22

Went up to the shops in our village today and it felt like a completely normal Saturday. Nice bright day, felt really really good.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 07/03/2021 17:13

@pillowcase123 - we've not formally declared a "bubble" - but given that I live alone and not in any other bubbles, no reason not to declare it that, so maybe not "rule breaking".
Using my friends guest toilet distinctly less of a health risk than some of the public ones I've used recently, and the police officer present in the house wasn't remotely concerned I was there, and probably presents a greater risk to the household than I do.

Lighthearted post about the joy in every day things - I take it you are not having a good day Hmm

I had a pointless non-essential journey today.
It was nice to go somewhere different.

I went along with a friend to garden centre today.
I didn't need to buy anything - I only bought some pears out front from the veg-fruit man who sets up a stall there.

Friend is in my bubble & it was nice to have a chat (I had stressful last few days).

I probably last went into a garden centre in 2018 or 2019. I thought garden centres were heaving with older people but this one (biggest in 10 mile radius) was nearly deserted. Their stock levels were down, too. We were there ages while friend pottered around.

Honestly what you've just described is totally minimal here - people have been mixing inside for months!

i genuinely don't know anyone who cares - never mind who follows the rules. Mumsnet is like another world to me!

This afternoon the local park was full - dozens of teens outside hanging out - including mine. DDs entire class have been mixing outside everyday throughout entire lockdown and no one I know has had it in months.

Same! I genuinley don't know anyone who cares about lockdown anymore and hasn't had someone in their house...not back to normal but at least seeing a friend indoors for a coffee or family indoors. I'm shocked that people are willing to be borderline depressed before doing any of the above minor rule breaks.
Nutrigrainygoodness · 07/03/2021 19:31

We went for a walk and dd sat on a bench and ate a pastry.

Me and DW went into asda together yesterday, it was full of couples and families.

Queenfreak · 07/03/2021 19:36

Not today, but this week, we went to a garden centre with my mum (all 1 household) as I needed compost.
Was just a short drive, but felt amazing to get out of the village! We grabbed a mcdonald's, and ate it in the car, before the garden centre too.
The garden centre has a small kids outdoor play area so we grabbed a take out tea from them and sat and watched dd play while we chatted in the sun.
Felt so so good!

Jeez......
JumpOnAPlane · 07/03/2021 19:50

I technically broke the rules today...

Was in LIDL, alone, doing some general grocery shopping. I had an itch on one of my ears and somehow managed to break the stringy bit on my mask which fell to the floor!

There weren't many people about and so I quickly walked to the 'middle bit' where they sell non food items. I was a bit panicked but found a cheap pack of 2 t-shirts and quickly tore the pack open and tied one around my face! It was that or men's underwear Hmm

Moral of story: Carry a spare maskSmile

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 07/03/2021 21:09

that was the one disappointment of yesterday, I dropped my mask in the park - my favourite ones with little sloths on the fabric 😕 - would have been amusing to see you with with a pair of Y-fronts to mask your faceSmile

Sorry, but.. you seriously have to be joking right?

This is insane 😲 why would you do that? Just don't wear a mask for a bit, it's not the end of the world.
JumpOnAPlane · 09/03/2021 23:21

Why would I be joking?

I don't want to catch C19. Simple. Shock

SmidgenofaPigeon · 09/03/2021 23:33

@JumpOnAPlane oh my god. That is one of the silliest things I’ve heard in a long time.

HugeAckmansWife · 09/03/2021 23:40

You do know a mask, unless it's an actual medical grade one, won't stop YOU catching anything yes? This has been made massively clear. It possibly, a bit, helps prevent you spreading it. And Lidl sells masks 🙄🙄

SmidgenofaPigeon · 09/03/2021 23:44

I’m so puzzled @JumpOnAPlane

Did you feel like a tit? Did you pay for the t shirts you ripped from their packet?

Do you understand how viruses work? Covid isn’t going to jump out of the vegetable aisle into your face at Lidl because you’ve had to forgoe a mask for ten minutes.

JumpOnAPlane · 10/03/2021 00:03

Hmmm. Thanks for the comments. Let me just break it down...

  1. I am just used to wearing a mask
  2. Wearing a mask or face covering is mandatory
  3. I did not feel 'like a tit'
  4. Yes, of course I paid for the pack of t-shirts
  5. I simply want to reduce the risk of getting or giving someone C19

I hope I have covered everything. If not, please ask. (Combination big sigh/little inward chuckle as it kinda seems I am having to 'justify' being a responsible person)Smile

It's still pretty OTT
Circumlocutious · 10/03/2021 04:16

Jesus, people on here are snippy.

HugeAckmansWife · 10/03/2021 15:56

People are absolutely sick to death of the OTT measures we are being asked to adopt and seeing the absolute failure of independent and critical thinking in favour of mindless obedience and fear in all possible contexts. I teach teenagers and had to yet again correct the notion the masks protect the wearer so forgive me for 'snippiness' when I see an adult, a year into this, still seeming to not understand the basic principle.

Excellent. Love your mask story. Made me laugh. Not sure what I’d have done but would have wanted to replace my mask somehow too.
