An FB friend has spotted that the nhs website calls Group 8 "56 years and over" and the government calls Group 8 "55 years and over".

The 1st jab appointments actually got closed down while I was mid selection for my second jab. I wasn't quick enough to get my initial preferred date. Hope the system can cope .

I think I read somewhere they are limiting the years to avoid booking system becoming overwhelmed.

Parker231 · 08/03/2021 16:21

Congratulations to those who have their appointments - good times ahead and a return to your normal life.

Parker231 · 08/03/2021 17:15

In the US the Centre for disease control and prevention has announced that fully vaccinated Americans can gather with other vaccinated people indoors without wearing a mask or social distancing. This includes healthy children.
Another country making a step forward to normal life.

@Parker231

Thanks for this link

I’m 50 and as it gets closer to being invited I’m feeling more and more impatient .

Yes it does and I have managed to book a vaccine later in March so thanks to those that pointed this out

I don’t think anyone is going to miss the opportunity to book their vaccine appointments. The NHS are going to text reminders every two to three weeks to ensure you book your appointments.

LemonTT · 09/03/2021 09:03

The reason 55 years are not getting letters is that they will be getting texts.

They want to test the impact of this change.

Seeing as they don't know my mobile number, that will be difficult.

bellinisurge · 09/03/2021 17:42

I still haven't had any word from my gp surgery or anywhere else telling me to book a vaccine. No text, no letter, no pigeon post. Nothing.
It's only because someone on here said they had opened it up to 55 year olds despite what the website says that I knew to do it.

Surely they will only have mobile nos. of those that visited the GP fairly recently, probably the last 5 years at most, they certainly haven't got mine, they only have my home address.

Parker231 · 09/03/2021 18:13

My GP has my home address, email, home and mobile number. They ask for them on registering and contact once a year asking whether there has been any changes to your information. There are signs at the GP surgery about keeping your information up to date.

I haven't been for 10-15 years, so I wouldn't know that.
RedRiverShore · 09/03/2021 18:16

Mobiles didn't exist when I registered with my GP practice, many will be the same as me

Parker231 · 09/03/2021 18:17

What about annual check ups, well woman appointments, smears, holiday vaccinations?

RedRiverShore · 09/03/2021 18:40

I got all the health stuff through work if I wanted, if all ok then no need for GP, stuff like smears, mammograms, etc. didn't seem to come through GP surgery but from NHS or local hospital by letter to my house like the covid vaccination invites. I haven't had holiday vaccination since about 1980.
BlueSussex · 09/03/2021 18:47

I am 55, no underlying issues, not a key worker, I have recently been vaccinated.

I think it depends on your area? You may be able to guess where I am Grin
